The best way to practice until you get it the majority of the time is against balrog. He is the easiest to do it. You do not have to walk towards him at all.
You can do a cross-up mk, mp, mk hands, mk hands with ease against him. A lot of characters like the shotos, you cant get the hands if you have the mp in the combo.
Blanka hits weir with a standing mk-hands, but if you start with a c.mk hands, then you can get the 2nd mk hands, but again this is really only good if you plan on FADCing the 2nd mk hands.
Hmm, could always try positioning the right side of your fightpad on your lap so you can slide method MK hands. (With your index finger & thumb together.) Probably doesn’t work but it’s still worth a shot. Track & Field style baby!
I can do it pretty consistent now above 80% id say with the sliding method. I also tried activating the turbo on my TE just to test it and that did not work any better tbh.
To be good with gen you need a stick. I say this because even if you work out some way that you can do mk xx hands with a pad, you will still have to be able to do the fadc and all that after. I just cannot see a pad being capable of mk xx hands tactics. If you want to get serious with it, a hori ex 2 is only like 50 dollars on ebay.
However, if you’re just wanting to get on xbl and play for fun, go ahead and turbo that junk, because there is no way you’re going to be doing mk xx hands on a pad. The only way I could see it is try to map the triggers to lp and mp . Maybe slide your thumb across the normal lp and mp and then do the triggers and mash hp.
Nah it’s possible to do it on a pad. I was without a stick for a while so I played on a pad for a little bit, just online though. I just did mk, mp~hp, lp~mp~hp. Almost immediatly with the mp~hp, not too fast cause I was getting a focus attack instead. And then I just slide lp~mp with my thumb and hit r1 as the last bit. Then for the combo I just buffered three punches like I do on a stick. It’s kinda funny to me for some reason.
But yeah, stick >>>> pad. Especially for execution heavy characters.
You get used to it. I can link jumping mk, mp, mk hands pretty often online using the slide method. Of course, if I want to be safe I go straight into mk hands after the jumpin.
The only thing I have a problem linking into is cr. lp, st. mp, so I just don’t use it. mp, mk hands is pretty easy to do online, however after the fadc it seems a little harder to get the mp in there for some reason. So, if the match is a little laggy, I’ll usually just go for the grab.
A warning to those practicing piano method on a keyboard – I injured my wrist after practicing it several hours last Saturday.
Thankfully, after some days rest, it’s feeling better. I couldn’t imagine having to go to the doctor and tell him I got carpal tunnel from practicing SF4 combos
