Gears of War 2 Thread: FIGHT THROUGH THE PAIN!

Been playing this since yesterday. Good game, but I don’t get what the hype is all about, as far as the campaign is concerned. Maybe I need to get farther into it? Horde mode is awesome though, but do you ever have to fight different enemies? Like Brumaks and such?

Beat Campaign today. Better than the original, but Hardcore solo definitely had its frustrating moments. I hate all the vehicle sections 'cept the last one, and Hardcore = hard this time, instead of Normal like the last game. It has some pretty epic moments , although I was expecting some giant full-scale battles with me, my squad, and dozens of Carmine-soldiers and Locust battling it out. Also, that Skorge boss battle sucked. RAAM was the only cool boss of the last game, and although none really get that good, at least the last one FEELS kinda cool. 8.5/10 for Campaign

Beat Horde on Normal as well. The waves 1-10 are the same, but they getting better stats every 10 waves. At the end, everybody gets 2.5 accuracy/health/damage. I and four other guys beat it on Subway, camping in the wear open area near the sniper/torque spawn. Its really is gaming perfection to have you and some friends shouting out enemy positions, ammo locations, push forward, fall back, etc. Its just really good. 10/10 for Horde

Havent played much of the other modes, 'cept Wingmen which is pretty cool but I I don’t like Execution.

Also, matchmaking is slow as hell!

Yea, wingmen is about the only playlist that doesn’t take forever for me to join a game. I need a partner though sometimes I’m teamed with someone real bad while other times it’s someone real good. Me and a few SRK people got to 39 or so on horde on hardcore. Everyone had to leave since it was close to midnight. I actually like this game quite a bit since I’ve been playing for 13hrs straight for the last 2 days but, they really should do a matchmaking patch or something to fix some issues. The glitch from roadie running is still there; not the roadie run part but the part where you get stuck to one place and keep teleporting back there. It’s not too bad since you just melee to get out of it.

MP is gdlke except for it taking almost 5 minutes to find a match and wingman is terrible if you don’t have a friend cuz if you get matched up with a scrub you are going to lose =/.

Yeah that shit got rough on 38. Need to get to the max! I remember that one dude was fighting off the last parts of the wave while we were all dead then all of sudden a torque bow mob comes out and just gibs him lol.Also, I’m still trying to train my thumbstick skills rofl so I’m pretty hot/cold at times .

I got to play this a bit before my 360 cooked itself. This game is way over hyped imo. Its not goty or even gotm. Its good but not great. I liked the first one better because it was new and what not. This one feels the same as the last one, it just looks a bit better. Its still full of glitches too. Im glad I didnt get so hyped for this, I think I would have been disapointed.

Got this yesterday, I’m finding it fun considering it’s my first GoW game and I don’t usually play shooters. The “inside” level was gross as fuck lol. Haven’t hit up MP yet though.

Ocarina of Time is wildly overrated and in no way, shape, or form, shits on Gears 2.

Gears 2 isn’t the pinnacle of gaming, either. Maybe after 10+ years of offering variants on the same tired forumla like Zelda, though, maybe Gears of War will be praised by fanboys too.

Ok, I definitely will take back that comment about it being GOTY also. There’s many reasons why… The one thing I hate is the lag input on chainsaw battles and the whole party system kind of sucks. Especially when it’s 4 of you and it takes 100 years to find 1 person to be on your team. Idk, the multiplayer is cool but it doesn’t offer enough game variants imo. I think horde mode is the bread and butter of online if u ask me. Also it’s not enough weapons either.

Overall the game is fun, and looks better than most shooters out there. But it’s not what I expected it to be. Well, I still enjoy playing it with friends and other people so it’s all good.

Fallout will get GOTY with the easy, imo.

Horde mode is quite fun. Regular MP is pretty good too, 5v5 makes it so much better than GoW1’s 4v4. Chainsaw is not nearly as OP as before, and that hit stun thing is a really good idea. Haven’t touched campaign yet.

GoW2 doesn’t do enough better than GoW1 to make it a GOTY candidate. It feels like GoW1.5, if anything.

Made a thread on the X-Box forums about the Canadian LE edition artbook fiasco. View it here. It says:

There was a topic made about this, but the guy who made it decided foolishly to include anti-French Canadian propoganda and bigotry that has no place in civilized discussion. So I’m making a new one.

I have been back and forth with Gamestop Canada’s head office, the Gamestop I bought it from, and Microsoft. Gamestop insists that this is a Microsoft issue to solve. Microsoft told me, after pressing them, that it isn’t there’s, an answer I find highly suspect. And that I will not accept. And neither should you.

Here’s what to do if you want a shot at getting an English artbook from Microsoft that you paid for:

1. Most importantly, above all else, contact Microsoft @ 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Tactfully but firmly insist they send you a new HARDCOVER English artbook. Don’t accept no for an answer; ask to speak to a manager if you won’t be helped, and if the highest up person you can speak to still won’t help, call again the next day and repeat the request. Keep doing it. The more people put pressure, the more Microsoft will be inclined to listen.

2. Send an email request to Microsoft from this page: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/contactus.aspx

Click the “Ask For Help Via Email” button. Tactfully and firmly request a new HARDCOVER English artbook. If you get no response after a day or two, repeat. Again, the more people do this, the more Microsoft will be inclined to listen.

3. Contact your retailer and, if applicable, your retailer’s head office. Let them know of the issue and that you understand the problem isn’t there’s to solve, but that you feel they should assist their clients by also putting pressure on Microsoft. Retailers have more clout than simple consumers. Enough retailer pressure + enough consumer pressure = incentive for Microsoft to act.

4. Post in this topic. Don’t post anti-French garbage, though. Post what you received in your Canadian LE and why you feel you should be compensated for the lack of an English hardcover artbook.

There’s a chance that Microsoft will sweep this under the rug. But conventional wisdom dictates that a small chance is better than no chance. Take a few minutes out of your day and follow the above directions. The more people do, the more Microsoft will realize that this issue, if not resolved, will lead to customer dissatisfaction and eventual loss.

I agree with most of this(especially the matchmaking thing, they gotta fix that shit), but the Campaign is indeed awesome and better than the first. I’m on Act 4 of Insane with a friend of mine. When I’m done with this run tomorrow I’ll add another 180 points to my score. Thats 700 achievement points already :woot: I’m so glad Epic Games decided to let you get achievements in every mode, make them a lot less stressful. I don’t think I’ll be getting that 1999 rounds/Seriously 2.0 for awhile, but its something to shoot for.

Just beat it, was awesome. Definitely a better campaign then Gears 1. Very, Very pretty game. Was it just me or was Hardcore a pain in the ass at parts? While for the most part it was great there were definitely some sections that frustrated. Oh, and this game needed more boss fights.

Completely agree, there was some really annoying parts every now and again. Hardcore is hard now, instead of Normal like Geras 1. Defiantly bigger,better, and more badass than Gears 1.

If they can fix the matchmaking, it would be absolute gaming bliss.

Oh, and Submission/Guardian/Wingmen are some fantastic new modes.

Well MP really IS pretty bad then. Took me well over 10 minutes to find one game that was disconnected the second it started. Played about 5 matches so far, tops. This sucks because this game is so much fun, but I guess I’ll go do Horde mode or try and go through the campaign again until Epic fixes the issue.

The campaign was reallllly awesome IMO.

Havent really delved into Multiplayer yet but I tried it a couple of times.

1. No Split Screen public games is a big WTF
2. The time it takes to find people is terrible
3. In public, you have to find people after EACH match.

I want a patch now!
