Better learn storm too if you want to win. They somehow make her even faster in this game, wtf.
Hey guys. Dave, Hamilton, Van, and I NEED to play Dante and/or Amaterasu. Every Asian will play them.
Actually I don’t think Dante is Asian-exclusive. He’s almost as common as Sentinel…
EDIT: oh, I got it now; should’ve watched the video first. Jwong was 100% right when he explained why I picked Dante lol. I would try Ken if he was in this game though.
Wow. Haggar’s pipe is such an obviously good move.
The butt slam is equally as better. You can just super jump and do butt and it’s active frames stay all the way until you hit the ground or someone.
that goes for all his jump attacks actually (cept jump S i think)
Butt slam is god tier in every game.
R Mika was gdlk in Alpha 3.
I won’t touch Dante unless I get him on random.
On another note, school sucks and I haven’t been able to put in the time to play this game. Plus I tried to switch my controls similar to mvc2…which resulted in me completely fucking up everything I did since I sorta somewhat got used to the default…then went back to default…and now I just plain suck. I really need to unlearn a decade of mvc2…
I only casually played MvC2, and I never thought I was particularly good. 3 definitely controls and feels a lot different.
Dante and Sentinel will be fairly common I’m sure. Though after watching some of the streams, it seems like there are a lot of different viable combinations that have the potential to tear through things only to hit another roadblock from another type of team. Hard to know for sure until the game is out for a while longer. My order still says “Shipping Soon” on it though…Oh well. I’ll get my fix in tomorrow.
Van, I told you to stick to default dammit, it’s not that different from BB…
And the Dante thing is a joke from the interview with Jwong.
Yes, cuz I have so much experience with BB you noob
its true he sucks dick at BB
Enjoyed the company of everyone today. I’ll be out of town next weekend if a get together happens again, but I’ll be around otherwise. Should give me some time to practice so I’m not so free.
Glad you had fun. When it gets closer to next weekend I’ll make a post about what time I can host again.
Thanks again Rob, as usual, we had a great time. Good matches today everyone I played. Felicia’s tail jab is so godlike.
So…I figured I’d look into sticks, and holy shit. There’s no way I can justify spending that much on a glorified controller. Even the “cheap one that breaks in a month and needs to be modded anyway” costs as much as a game itself. I know someone (I think it was Than?) said something about sales at tournaments that he’s seen yesterday, but it still seems ridiculous. I found something on here that had a 20% off deal on a TE stick, but it’s still more than a $100. Suppose I’ll stay a pad warrior for a while.
Did you guys that have sticks really shell out that much for them?
Absolutely and they were worth every penny
I got my first stick as a gift for christmas 2 years ago. It was the $60 hori ex2. After getting used to it, I fell in love with it and wanted another when some of the buttons stopped working. I ended up getting a TE for $150 and a week later they were on sale on a few websites and I was kicking myself. I got another TE on sale for $100 so I’d have one for both systems.
Given the amount of time I spend playing fighting games (marvel3, sf4, hdremix, ggpo), and the quality of the TE in general, I’d say that its well worth the money.
Now… you can get really good using a pad. A guy (Dave) that recently moved from gainesville (he posts here as yimaxi) and used a dualshock and might have been the best guy in our group (suck it petey). You should consider all the pros and cons though.

If you’re going to go pad… get some kind of cord to make switching out controllers easy. Dave being on ps3 made it easy since he has that cord that lets him play on ps3 or 360, and on ps3 its easy to change controllers… not so much on 360.

Being good on pad/stick may be character dependent. As a honda player I could never do any kind of piano techniques on a pad, but after practicing a bunch its really easy on a stick. This might not be an issue for a game like marvel… but even back in the day when I played marvel 2 on pad I’d always have trouble mashing out raging demon on a pad, while its easy on a stick.

Also sticks just look really fucking cool. Patrick couldn’t make it yesterday, but next time we play maybe you can see his stick that he modded.
In the end its a personal decision. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to go one way or another. There is a learning curve to switching to stick as well but I honestly think its well worth the investment.
EDIT: Also the TE should last you for life.
I bought mine of ebay for $73 + roughly $10 for shipping. You just need to look around. My brother, Tran, bought a stick for about $90 after shipping and he doesn’t use it due to the fact he can’t get a good grip on it. If you really think you’ll stick to it, then it may be worth the investment. I played pad my entire life until a trip in Massachusetts changed me in August of 2010. After I got back to FL, I got my stick and it took a good 2-3 weeks before my executions were clean. I definitely feel like I’m a much better player now than I was when I played on pad. Along with that, I just find it to be more comfortable too, having your attack buttons easily accessabile with 3/4 fingers.
Speaking of sticks, would any of you guys know if there’s anyone who could dual mod my 360 TE stick so I can use it for PS2/PS3? I’d of course be willing to pay for whatever things that needed to be order + labor.
Edit: Patrick was the Rose player that eliminated me right? His stick was beautiful.
