Nice to hear manny. Lookin forward to seein you chaps soon!!!
That’s great. I’ll register as soon as it’s fixed.
The main thing I’m waiting for now from you guys is the exact schedule for tournaments. I am arriving on Thursday and would like to possibly go to Universal Studios while I’m there on either Friday or Sunday. I’m pretty much only going to GAMME for Soul Calibur 4, and if it’s not on one of those days then I would be able to know which day to buy my theme park tickets for.
Also will the brackets be posted online ahead of time?
Can’t wait for the website too.
Get HYPE bitches.
Yes its back on.:party::party::party::china:

You’re right that I work for MLG, but there are a lot of factors in play here. The biggest one is that I try to keep my tournament playing separate from my job. If I didn’t keep them separate, then I would be getting paid by MLG to travel to tournaments and lobby for MLG. You and I have been at the same tournament a handful of times, and though our interaction has been limited, you know that I don’t mention or bring up MLG at tournaments. I’m there to compete on my own time and with my own money as a player, not an employee of MLG. By the way, I only heard about GAMME through others, but I didn’t know the exact dates or its offerings until I looked into it at the end of January.
Another factor is that I’m not in the department that deals with booking venues, etc. I can provide input, but that department has their job to do, and I have mine. MLG isn’t a small company where each employee has a hand in everything going on or where each employee has the time to know all of the intricacies of other departments. MLG has had events that conflict with other events in the past. By the time anyone from either side realizes it, it’s already too late to change anything because everything is already booked and locked in. All parties just keep going forward, and the people that want to go to a specific event can go to that event.
For internal purposes at MLG, dates for events aren’t distributed until they are finalized. This is important because it can have a significant impact when speaking to clients and potential clients from a marketing campaign standpoint. I actually did provide dates (not names) for various majors and EVO at the end of January, shortly after I looked into GAMME and other tournaments for the year so I could figure out my vacation schedule. However, the dates for MLG’s Columbus event happened to get finalized around that time. If I have an obligation to the FGC and a responsibility to MLG to inform them, then I fulfilled them. It was just too late.
EDIT:
I had and still have plans to attend GAMME. Manny, I sent you a PM.
Yea MLG is going to have other events anyway. They act like this is their only event. Plus they didn’t want to include SSF4 so who cares about MLG. Glad to see that nothing has changed and noone will be disappointed. Great decision! Looking forward to seeing the Japanese players vs the best that we have here.
lol thx : )
Good shit manny I told everybody you were a stand up guy and it shows, you’ll definitely have my full support.
Co-sign!! “Believe half of what you see and non of what you heard”
Phew I’m glad that’s over, almost ruined my summer; not to mention financial planning. Check you suckas soon! HYPE SON!
MLG never offered anyone any money to move his event. We never asked him to do anything. Up until maybe a week ago I had no idea that there was event overlap.
I’m just amazed at the energy that one fabricated story can create.
I will be posting a formal response this afternoon*.

*UPDATE - waiting to see if we hear back from the tourney organizer before moving ahead with our response.
details - Accusations of defamation (libel in this case) are a serious thing. I’m waiting to hear the event organizers explanation for his claims. If I haven’t heard back by Monday I will move forward.

I understand <— not being sarcastic either. Yup that’s how corporate works though. Stuff that happens on the ground level has a hard time to get to the top just as stuff happening from the top sometimes does not make it to the bottom. See always two sides to the story and it is always better to ask than to assume. Well now that we know that for information sake then its just about making it out there for those that are still willing to go.
This sucks for me because both GAMME and MLG happens at the same time as the International Video Game and Pinball Tournament at FunSpot. (sad face) so I had to pick from three. In any regards we’ll have a couple of people from the Empire going out to MLG and others to GAMME, so we’ll just have to split up. Thanks for feed back Danny. No hard feelings? Still cool? or is it like the rest of the guys in NYC that hate me on the low? lol (JK…or am I?)
HOLY SMOKES! If it isn’t Co-Commander and Chief. Hey…you know its very hard to get in contact with you. Surprised to see you down here on the battlefield. (Actually I’m not, lol) How goes the League? I’ve been trying to …hmmm this is not the place for this. I’ll email you.
Hmm, I was considering attending because of the guarantee of Japanese players, large pots, a spotless record thus far on GPX’s part in assisting with tourneys, and the legitimacy with VA appearances, all of which would essentially make GAMME an EC upstart rival to Evo. But now, with this recent development, those foundations don’t seem so clear set. I feel that a descriptive, honest explanation is in order to get to the bottom of the facts; hopefully, this doesn’t involve coming up with the money…
Having 5 Japanese players is one of the biggest draws of this tourney and it’s proudly mentioned that they’ve been invited. However, the fact that the tourney was previously in consideration to be moved to September when Tougeki had already been announced as taking place in that month (and where I have a tough time believing many of the invited JP players would just vacate for this tourney) is a bit unsettling to me in terms of how far the JP players are in the loop. Have they, barring visa issues, promised to attend any dates as long as sufficient airfare/needs were provided? And is that currently set?
great there is no change.
From business standpoint, it’s not a good idea to change the date. If you must change the date and you booked that place before MLG, you have to ask them to pay you up front. or you are not going to work with them on this issue and keep the current date.
i would say atleast 20k up front, you can just tell them they have to cover 5 Japanese players airfare and other needs. or don’t talk. The other part of the money is to cover your other lose like Reputation.
i have to agree with Ganelon, September is not a good date for this event consider SBO is on September. before SBO is bad because they are probably not coming. After SBO is little bit better, but they are probably too tired and lazy to come.
Let me use a little inductive reasoning to guess an answer:
- Japanese players are a major draw
- If Japanese players were attending, GAMME would not move the dates without confirming that the Japanese could still attend
- NO WAY would a Japanese player commit to a date that conflicts with SBO
- SBO has not even announced what days in Sept they are holding their event
- The Japanese could not have committed to the date change when it was proposed
Most likely conclusion: Japanese players never committed to attending in the first place.
Quoting from the first post in this thread:
That implies that only Issei is confirmed, but then then later the post says:
So yeah, a straight answer would be nice.
I have a question about the tournament rules. The rules at http://www.gpxgaming.net/?page_id=66 state:
Can someone translate that into English for me? The first round of the tournament is 1 game and the rest of the rounds are 2 games, except the loser’s bracket (which they call wildcard), which is 1 round again? Or is the first round of the tournament single elim and then after that it changes to double elim? What’s wrong with a standard double-elimination bracket??
hey so the first post is really confusing and so is the second post.
is there somewhere i can read up on information pertaining to
registration (i see a pass that ends may 16, is this what I need)
deadline
tourney format
thats actually all I want to know…
i can see where to register, but do you need a pass AND to register for your game or just the game
when is registration deadline
is there some sort of restriction as to who can compete (ssf4)
etc
Couldnt find any of that on the first page of this thread
I have sent an email and received a reply from Mr. Duong (Gran_Calc) and Mr DiGiovanni (mlgSundance) of MLG and we will be working toward finding out what has happened in this. In the end I am happy to stay where we are and keep serving you guys in the community.
I hope you guys will have better reactions to us in the future as we have been working with you guys for a long time in the community. I again will always poll you for this sort of thing and wont be keeping you all out of the process next time …“you guys” as in you the community.
Thanks folks, I am attending a funeral today - Carl Macek has passed and we will be honoring him today in LA.
we have a memorial video on our site on the front page.
Thanks folks.
Manny - Any word yet on a tentive game schedule?
Really? Drama aside, you can’t let him get back from a funeral?
GAMME/GPXGAMING lost my trust
This is my number one concern with this tournament.
You will not get a straight answer, I wanted to trust these guys but this little drama is FAR from over it has brought a great fear back into my mind: TRUST
Let me tell you a little story that happened not too long ago:
Denjin arcade made a big deal about bringing momochi over to the us, and it didn’t happened in the end, THAT WAS THE MAIN ATTRACTION to the tournament and it was a letdown, needless to say I didn’t go back on Saturday after Friday?s team tourney.
To me GAMME is all about the godly Japanese players coming to the USA, the whole tournament is being marketed around it, even changed the thread name to reflect this. Not everyone cares about anime conventions, random concerts and all the other stuff, let’s get real “USA vs JAPAN SSFIV $5000 Tourney” that’s the selling point.
Now can we get Official Statements from the players themselves they will be attending? Japanese don’t play for money so they can change their mind any time they want. Can you provide proof for this? “invitations” do not count and we are a couple weeks away. It’s like advertizing a Paquio fight with mere invitations.
Everyone is trying to dismiss this whole thing like its nothing but it actually is.
-
Organizer that kept saying he works “for the people” made a huge decision moving this event without any regard to players needs or opinions, then tried to pass it off in a commanding tone.
-
Organizer changed his mind after the heat it generated, not only proving a lack of professionalism but irresponsible and right down careless decision making, and I’m not going to even get on the money reasons for their actions.
-
Organizer has not confirmed in any way the main selling point for his tournament.
Those are the reasons why I do not trust GAMMA or GPX gaming anymore, I kept quiet because they seemed legit and I was willing to fly to Florida on promises alone. I can’t stay quiet no more. We need confirmation, REAL confirmation not some random post that will most likely change at the last minute, who’s coming? who’s NOT coming? we need to know NOW.
There is so much money being promised in cash but I have my doubts on that too, I doubt you got 30 grand in reserve just in case you can?t cover it with the venue fee, etc.
You just tried to postpone the tourney like 4 months into the future and now you say everything is ok? HOLD UP A SECOND you don’t even have a game schedule a month before the tourney, not even the “promised” website. Will you have volunteer judges for the sheer amount of people that will be there? can this tourney be trusted to run smoothly?
Right now I see this as a risk for anyone to book a plane, book a hotel and save up some money(give up doing something else) when everything about this tournament is up in the air, I would have to be a fool to register or book anything without these concerns taken care off.
So… just to make 100% sure, GAMME is back on track on it’s original date or is there still ambiguity on this?
Also, granted that this event doesn’t fall apart I’d like to get some mvc2 money matches going. Vercette? First to 10 for a bill?
You make VALID points!
The prob. right now is that the “Community” was told of all this just last week!! so those that have bought plane tickets, arranged plans, saved some money, hotel expenses ( few months ago) are the ones that are shitouttaluck if this weren’t going to happen in June. I bet this ALL would have been different if the community were told maybe 3 or 4 months ago!
The Jap 5 v USA 5 was/ is the selling point, but at this point in time (me personally) whether it happens or not, I’m still going to GAMME. Just rest assured that GPX will have a pretty hard time with future events getting folks to commit (trust) IMO.
