Future of Nintendo? Bright.. or Dark

New Super Mario U is 2d gameplay and it sold only 600k to date. All the 3d Mario games debuted on Nintendo consoles that didn’t sell that great in Japan. The common denominator is Japan losing interest in consoles, not lack of interest in 3d Mario gameplay. The indicators were apparent since the 00s, but PS2’s lifetime success and Wii’s initial success muddied up the picture a bit. Maybe it’s popular perception is Wii was a huge success, but bear in mind that sales collapsed at the end of its life, and 3DS already outsold it in JP.

I’d take a closer look at how Nintendo and Sony designed their latest products. Wii U gives you limited ability to play without using the TV. PS4 can connect to Vita/Vita TV to play PS4 away from the living room. That indicates that camping in front of the family TV playing hours of Dragon Quest or whatever doesn’t fly in Japanese households like it used to, and both Sony and Nintendo seem to be aware of that. Microsoft doesn’t really have a clue about that market either way, they prolly just think it’s “baka gaijin consoru” and nothing else (that’s what a lot of Xbox fans think).

A lot of people are arguing that mario is a console seller and the short (extreme) failure isn’t a huge setback, but it DEFINITELY sets a grim tone.

Conclusion: future of Nintendo is bright

I think Nintendo will do fine with their Market. Dude to the change in gaming climate their “kiddy” games don’t have as much mainstream appeal. Most of their dominance came from it was either Sega or Nintendo. But I think they will do fine, they won’t be the ps2, but if they bring back some old series, and focus on bringing that 1st party goodness they will do fine.

Super Nintendo Gamer Soap Cartridges

It took me a second to actually realize that those were actually soap. My mind was like ‘WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DUMP THOSE CARTRIDGES IN SOAPY WATER!? WHO!?’. Has nothing really to do with the topic but interesting nontheless.

Spoiler

It’s a troll/joke twitter account, and I’m posting it hoping you’ll have a laugh–like I did–when you read it

nintendo…

what are you doing?..

The Kaz Hirai Twitter account has been around for a while and it’s fuckin gold.

They have a good future so long as they have all their franchise games. They’re just in a temporary rut and need a new strategy.

best thing Nintendo can do now is stick to making solely handhelds over home consoles, and become a third party software developer. Hell, even if they exclusively deal with one company (MS/Sony) it will still be better in the long run.

Alternatively, they could go back to the 16-bit days and make a streaming retro console. But I don’t know what devs would be willing to sink money into making old sprite based games for one niche console for SNES fanboys like me.

So let’s stick with option one.

That video gave me an idea…Custom Robo done by the Armored Core devs. I’d be interested in seeing that.

kotaku.com/nintendo-thinks-free-to-play-is-hurting-their-business-1514943213

or a custom robo with good encode

I love the pikmin franchise but mario and zelda is getting a little stale. I wish they would come up with something new 1st party.

Not even gonna watch the video, that man is a joke. An “angry” joke.

Nintendo needs to make more unique things and work with more devs to make them They’re already on it, they have exclusive Sonic games, Namco on Smash, SMTxFE, Platinum making them two games and their own development studios are going full force. Looking good for them. People will buy it if its good shit they can’t get elsewhere.

I am perfectly fine with just playing indie games, but many are gonna want offerings similar to what Sony has (LOL Microsoft). I think the next Nintendo console should just be a straightforward console with a standard, boring controller and an emphasis on power. Innovation should be in the games, the console apps, and the online infrastructure, not in the hardware.

With that said, I’d be lying if I said that the Wii didn’t have satisfying games on it, so I will be buying a Wii U. I just hope that they don’t add stupid shit in Smash 4.

oh god how fucking boring

nintendo should let the wii u celebrate what it is. bring out games using two gamepads and release second gamepads at a resonable price. if I want a stupid power, power, power console I’ll just get a PC

the whole point of the ps4 and xbox one is the extra things it can do hasn’t anyone learned that yet. why do you keep asking for the same thing all the time instead of encouraging innovation and participating in expanding gaming.

if my kids grow up and I see them playing call of duty 30 then gaming truly is for Epsilon minded vessels

Fuck I’m agreeing completely with Ki Shima
