Future of Nintendo? Bright.. or Dark

So you’re using Kotaku as evidence of your case.

You have a fundamental flaw in your strategy, might I suggest next time using a site that isn’t widely disrespected and discredited.

Kotaku couldn’t game their asses out of a wet paper bag.

…or you guys could try arguing the issue, instead of attempting to dodge it by making irrelevant digs at a site no one cares about.

If you can’t understand the inferiority of a “snap to predefined position” camera scheme, you’re an idiot. If Gamepro points out Wii 1 only runs 480p, pointing out that Gamepro are retards won’t magically make it 1080p. Sorry guys.

Also, the idea that there’s a actually gaming site not widely disrespected and discredited by random fan boys is hilarious.

Its an issue not worth responding to because snap to cameras work fine and only a moron cant use them efficently.

Right, because calling people morons as an excuse for absolutely pointless design shortcomings is totally convincing and not at all an ironic example of the very moronic behavior it ascribes.

Here it is in terms you might understand:

When MS and Sony consoles run games at less resolution than their predecessors, people complain, even though the games still function, because new consoles are supposed to provide technical innovation and improvement over their predecessors. Snap to grid camera, for all intents and purposes, is downgrading an analog stick to digital control. When you consider the 360 directions and ~100 degrees of pressure an analog stick senses, the digital snap system comprises fidelity technically hundreds of times worse than the alternative. And unlike a comparatively tiny difference in visual resolution like 720 vs 1080p, which is mostly cosmetic and only affects graphics - a drop in control resolution DIRECTLY EFFECTS GAMEPLAY.

“only a moron can’t aim FPS with the arrow keys efficiently”
“only a moron can’t play SF efficiently on a crap d-pad and 4 face buttons”
“only a moron can’t manage RTS shortcuts efficiently without a keyboard”

Thank fucking god no one ever listened to retarded attitudes like this, because if they did, developers would still be trying to figure out how to make more complex games on a paddle with one goddamned button on it. Better control leads to more play potential, and better games - it’s fundamental and obvious.

The worst part is that there is absolutely no advantage to the digital snap system. Since even Nintendo systems have 2 analog sticks now, it doesn’t save room on the controller for other more important functions, it doesn’t make things more streamlined, accessible, or easier to understand…at this point it’s just Nintendo being too lazy to rewrite things, making illogical decisions and attempting to pass them off as “different”… knowing that its fans are so devoted, they’ll play whatever the hell they’re fed. If you can’t see how needlessly-limited controls lead to needlessly-limited level designs, you’ve gotta be the most short-sighted person alive. If the controls are already set in stone, and as action heats up playtesters notice the game repeatedly asking them to either go charging blindly into areas the camera isn’t pointing, or waste time dicking with a finicky camera which is incapable of going exactly where you want it, OF COURSE the conclusion will be “this complex 3D stuff is hard to control, we better tone it down for the kiddos.”

SM3DW is a huge step in the right direction compared to Mario’s sparse, boring previous 3D games, but the camera is a prevailing example of how Nintendo really don’t optimize their designs at all and leave many basic components completely un-updated despite repeated opportunities to revise over 4-5 sequels released in the past ~17 years. Rather than making the best possible game they can make, they come up with a few random gimmicks, shoehorn them into the same old archaic formula, and then expect everyone to swallow it as-is, cause “hey, it’s Nintendo.” If you can’t see how revised camera and controls would improve these games, you really have no fucking imagination.

Gnalvl is a troll.

And by troll, I mean flag it.

Of course it’s not like SMW3D needs the share visual space with 4 people or anything :coffee:

I like nintendo

less < more

Of course it’s not like the rest of the gaming world has been employing splitscreen, LAN, and online play to accommodate multiple players with individual cameras for 2 decades now.

Moreover, one has to wonder: if the Wii U’s purpose isn’t to allow 4 players in co-op to each have their own gamepad screen, a la GBA link cable in 4 Swords on GC, just what is the Wii U good for? It’s an incredibly nonsensical move for a company dedicated to family gaming to build their console around a gimmick which causes a lopsided multiplayer experience, where only one player gets the full experience of the gamepad, and the others are stuck with whatever other random wii controlers are laying around the house.

“I don’t understand what this person is saying, so he must be a troll”.

If I didn’t like Nintendo’s good games, I wouldn’t be thinking or discussing how Nintendo could make more of them by improving the formulas which aren’t working.

Besides which, despite allegations that I have some bias, it’s not like I treat other companies any differently. I spent ~6 years off and on making various mods to Halo 1 and 2 in my free time to show how the series could have been salvaged. I was drumming up demand on the Bungie forums for a single-shot alternative to the BR years before Reach ever introduced the DMR. When Killzone 1 came out, I launched a campaign on the Sony forums demanding a patch to fix the broken multiplayer balance. When I showed up on the Insurgency forums offering criticism, one of the developers asked to arrange a skype meeting to go over it all in detail, and now a lot of the game’s weapon mechanics are based directly on stuff I suggested.

The problem is, Nintendo fanboys act like butthurt little pussies and go apeshit calling people trolls whenever anyone thinks slightly differently. There is no such thing as constructive criticism in their minds. They argue steadfastly that there is no true Mario or Zelda canon, to excuse Nintendo going in whatever random directions they want with the franchises, but as soon as anyone else suggests a change, they complain it’s not true to the series’s roots. EGM’s Jeremy Parish personally banned me from his forums for criticizing Super Mario Galaxy, and then 4-5 years later when Super Mario 3D Land came out, the forum collectively went “damn, this is a lot like the stuff that Gnalvl guy was suggesting way back when. It’s actually pretty cool.” Most of the new stuff in 3D World which Nintendo fans are celebrating now is stuff I’ve been saying they should do since N64 hit, but every time I mentioned it till now, Nintendo fanboys bitched and moaned that it was a horrible idea and corruption of a classic formula.

If in 5 years Nintendo finally implements the camera I’m proposing now, and every review and every fanboy on the internet is celebrating it as a much-needed improvement which revitalizes the franchise comparable to the RE3>RE4 camera, I will not be at all surprised, and you guys will be doing your damnedest to pretend this thread never happened.

I understand you perfectly.

I disagree with you completely.

You are not profound.

You are simply wrong.

Sorry dude, you’re living in a fantasy universe where posting “ur wrong” is accepted as an argument, or even a meaningful post.

In the real world, attempting to pass off 1 line assertions with absolutely no evidence or supporting logic is something only a troll does, or an idiot.

Gnalvl is just mad cause he can’t beat Zelda 2 on Nes 8 bit

I love Zelda 2

Also if you don’t have Gnalvl ignored then you deserve to read his spittle.

#constructivecriticism

I did.

As a kid. :coffee:

He is somehow even less worthy of a response than Rocky Rose.

How is that even possible?

I won’t deign to give him the attention he so obviously and desperately needs, anymore.

You’re right. It’s been fun, but he needs to be ignored from here on out.

So let me get this straight, you guys prove yourselves incapable of anything besides clicking the “quote” button and then plugging your ears and yelling “LALALALA I’M NOT LISTENING UR WROOONG!1!1!1111” and then you expect me to:

  1. Believe you when you say you won’t do it anymore.

  2. Miss you when you’re gone.

GG, guys.
