No.
It’s a kind of a double edge sword to be honest.
No DLC means you can’t alter a game that isn’t finished.
No DLC means that you can’t put a fraction of a game development into DLC either.
WTF did I watch.
@ Shima
I don’t know, Nintendo knows what they are doing. And to be honest I don’t like what they are doing. It detracts from gameplay, it always does. All these extra social perks will take away from the over all experience of a game, because the focus won’t be the experience, but rather, it will be how you interact with others.
That would be fine and dandy for online games, but after Wii, I don’t trust Nintendo to implement all this extra crap correctly.
Nintendo is the Apple equivalent, and that isn’t a good thing.
Nintendo has been kept alive by games like Poke’mon and Zelda. They can’t compete with the main gaming base over (teens and adult males) so they found themselves a new base to compete in, the casual gamer. Good business wise, but nothing I’d want to play.
Nintendo hasn’t released a good console since the SNES, now that was a great console.
I’m speaking the truth! look at the state of this gen consoles, MORE POWER = less possibilities? :wtf: how can they end up with less and less split screen games? graphical power has taken over artistic merit it’s a fucking joke and if you’re too stupid to see that then just set me to ignore.
I back up interesting experimentation for neuronal progress, im tired of these stupid people who have as much sense as the wrestling fan that still believes it’s all real half way through his thirties.
actually this will be interesting, give me a list of 10 games this generation that has innovated in any way
why do you play games?
that’s an advert taking the piss out of xbox/ps3 players. you might understand if you read this-

As long as they keep make Pokemon games I’ll buy their shit.

Black and White were fucking awesome.
for an experience that is not only limited to gameplay mechanics.
story, sound quality, visual quality, presentation, execution, fluidity. All listed here are part of gameplay.
Those qualities which I listed are omited by nintendo in favor of so called innovation. And I say i don’t like what Nintendo is doing because they are sacrificing a lot for some waggle bullshit gimmick. Which isn’t cool.
If for example Skyrim was available for the Wii in its entiriety, waggle controls would be a nice bonus provided it wasn’t forced as the only control scheme. But its not, and Nintendo has shown time and time again that it will shove its crap into the game, even if it takes away from it. Had a game like Skyrim been Wii onlly, it would have been 1/6 as big as it was because the focus would have been. How do we use this waggle crap.
I play games for an experience which is fun and immersive. Not shallow crap which involves waggling a remote up an down.
look, if they did it right it would be cool. It be pretty fucking badass. But as it stands, Nintendo is on the opposite side of the spectrum and doing exactly what Sony and Microsoft are doing. Where Sony/Microsoft sacrifice innovation for a more grandeur and glamorous game, Nintendo completly sacrifices grandeur and glamour for a more hands on experience.
My beef is why can’t we have both? We live in a world where that is possible, and its bullshit I have to sacrifice a lot just to experience either or.
And ive seen the future, and it doesn’t involve polygon count, it involves individual particles to make a much more grandeur world than there has ever been.
BTW, movies simply don’t cut it sometimes, and leave a lot to be desired, movies are not a good substitution
The Future of Nintendo? Probably very bright… will you like it? Probably not.
The concept of console loyalty/fanboyism is baffling to me, as it’s purely psychological and not rooted in anything concrete. “Hardcore” gamers who have “turned their backs” on Nintendo… it’s all so dramatic. I’m fortunate enough to have enough discretionary income to get all the consoles I want to play games on within reason. I have a PS3, Xbox360, Wii, a good Gaming PC, an old PSP, 3DS… etc. etc.
If I want to play a game, I have to own the platform it is on. Will I get a Wii U? Probably… there will be games on it that I want to play. Is it “better” than the PS3/4 Xbox360/720/1080/2560? Totally irrelevant. The Wii didn’t “bomb out” out at the end… it just didn’t cater to the crowd you put yourself into. The “sad” thing is that the crowd of people who “turned their backs on Nintendo” are not the majority.
In this business (and yes, despite your personal misgivings, it’s a business) the loudest voice is the one with the most money. Nintendo’s model was, innovate, do it on the cheap, appeal to the biggest crowd possible, and make a shit-ton of cash. I’d say they were pretty successful. Microsoft’s strategy was online services integration and subscriptions… I’d say they were pretty successful. Sony’s strategy was Japan, platform longevity, better technology and high-end digital media presentation… I’d say they were pretty successful.
These companies don’t hate each other… only their fans do.
While you are all arguing about this and that… these companies are sitting back collecting money… if not from you, from the guy next to you… from the family down the street… from Australia, the Philippines, China. I for one am glad they are different. Variety is good. If the market just wanted “the best system to play the same game” on, we’d all be PC gamers.
The point is that there ARE differences… it’s better for the gaming economy, and in the end… better for the gamer. The consoles themselves are diverging in paths… and that’s a good thing… for everyone.
I’m old enough to remember the SNES/Genesis days… where you had to get down to if you preferred the sound of the FM Synth Chip (Genesis) to the sampled sounds of the SNES and which console had better graphical interpolation (SNES by the way). SNES owners laughed when the Genesis owners had to press start to switch between punches and kicks in Street Fighter 2, until SEGA came out with the 6 button controllers… then we were jealous. I don’t want to go back to those days. My TV has enough inputs to accommodate all the consoles.
I want Nintendo to go off in it’s wild zany directions… I want Xbox Live to be the most stable online gaming platform, and I want Sony to pump out beautiful blu-ray and have it’s PS3 control my Bravia TV. Long live them all I say.
Most of Nintendo’s first party stuff is good, but they’re really lacking in good third party games. They also need to make their online about 4 times better.
Here’s my take on some of the Wii games:
my take on some wii games
[details=Spoiler]
Zelda Twilight Princess - graphics too great, but that was to be expected as it was developed as a gamecube game. Great dungeon design and bosses although the Final boss was… underwhelming.
Zelda Skyward sword - kind of a disapointment. Waggle controls with the wii-motion plus were gimmicky and it felt like Nintendo was really trying to shove it down our throats in this game. Great dungeon design and bosses as well. Flying around on the bird was stupid though. I’ve never been a fan of the Zelda games’ story, because they all follow the same formula from start to finish for the most part.
No More Heroes 1 and 2 - Game has style. But not much depth. Just didn’t seem like there was much strategy involved. I pretty much sold these as soon as I finished em.
Madworld - I didn’t really have much fun with this game. Sold it as soon as I finished it.
Metroid Prime 3 - Boss battles were cool. Game was challenging on the hard setting. Enjoyable but short.
Super Mario galaxy 1 and 2 - Very innovative and yes it is fun… but I realize that I’ve outgrown the franchise. I need a story to go along with my games these days.
Punch out - I wanted more changes/development on the gameplay side. Plays the same as the NES/SNES version.
Donkey Kong Country Returns - Challenging. But like SMG, I realize that I’ve outgrown the franchise.
Boom blox bash party - great party game for casual players. Definitely worth checking out.
Zack & Wiki - Not my cup of tea (single player puzzle games don’t really do it for me), but the game definitely had some innovative things going on for it.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom - Good music. Decent fighter. I enjoyed it.
Little King’s story - Awesome game. Employs waggle controls, but it’s the control system is not overly complex so it doesn’t really hurt the gameplay. If you haven’t played this game, definitely give it a shot.
Okami - PS2 classic. Great story. Great music. Awesome level design. Controlling the celestial brush using the Wii-mote is excellent.
Xenoblade chronicles - I’ve put in 70+ hours into this game so far and I still haven’t completed it yet. I don’t believe there is any JRPG on either the 360 or PS3 that is better than this game. Deep, immersive… overall awesome. [/details]
I understand how you feel but if we kept combing our hair we’d be here all day, abstract experimentation and play IS Play. you really think Microsoft and Sony hate Nintendo think about that, they want nintendo so thrive because Nintendo is the only company keeping it real.
the bottom line is all companies have learned everything from each other, what to do and what not to do.
in the past sega and nintendo planned on finding ways too make people enjoy interacting with symbols and have found solitude in that ethos. xbox and playstation are looking for the best way to sell a good time.
hmm… will I choose a local smith or a vegas pimp?
thank you, good night. drops mic
this woman…? knows what its talking about
but the arguement here is if Nintendo is wasting it’s time with it’s peripheral focus.
I’m just debating because it’s fun no but I do care about SRK and hope they don’t completely fall into all the corporate bullshit that’s as illusive as a flea’s fart
I was replying to the original post… because questions like these make me shake my head. The community is creating artificial competition when it really comes down to “what do you want to play?” If you wanna hold a peripheral, then you will get the game that lets you do so. If you wanna hold a controller, you will get the system that caters to that… if you want an arcade stick… you’re going to get that. It’s not rocket science. The point is that there’s room for everything. I know people who literally refuse to play Mario Kart without the wheel peripheral. I know people who won’t even get a game unless it works for Kinect. They are out there, they spend money, and they need to be catered to just as much as we do…
no matter how fucking stupid they are.
the future for nintendo is as Dark As Dieminion
dude… um… chill?
i created this thread cause i wanted to hear our community opinion…
also, i would loooove nintendo to have a bright future.
but this is the problem… i don’t think they got what it takes anymore.
i didn’t come off as like "fuck nintendo…"
i came off as, “wow, the world/gaming industry is fucking changing. will nintendo will be able to adapt to the constant times?”
sorry i hurt your feelings bro.
won’t happen next time lol.
These issues you listed have nothing to do with waggle. It has to do with poor level design.
Seriously that was so fucking painful to watch. Also repainted power sword from mmpr.
