Future of Nintendo? Bright.. or Dark

That’s what they convinced me the Wii would be like when it was called the Nintendo “Revolution”.

Given I was like 15 or 16 and had never known about DLC titles or remakes. Some BS article also rambled on about potentially porting every Nintendo console game onto that.

I…don’t think I can agree with this. Nintendo had FF7 in the bag on cart but they ended up losing it because of the CD format. People didn’t want to deal with making their games on the cart which was harder to develop for in much the same way PS3 was harder to develop on. The costs were too much so they jumped ship.

Wow, way to get butthurt.

I was basically making sure you were consistent and not blasting Nintendo for not doing what no one else is doing either. I’ve heard this argument several times before from many people and they’ll get all pissed because they can’t choose to not use the provided controls even though said controls work fine for the game. You’re basically making a 2012 argument that you should be able to choose to use a cursor in Duck Hunt rather than the Zapper.

Like I’ve said, going cart didn’t help at all. I understand that. That in itself didn’t sink some of the N64 prospects. Tomb Raider and Twisted Metal could have fit on an N64 cart. Granted there was no reason to assume they or any other game would have wound up on N64 instead.

I’m fairly certain that if you extracted the FMV from FF7 it would fit on a cart. I dunno the size of FF7 - the FMV and maybe - the insanely long summon cutscenes so who knows? I do know that Resident Evil 2 was put on N64 including all the FMV if I recall. OoT and MM were pretty big games and fit on a cart. There are only maybe 3 reasons to use a CD over a cart. I hope one day the industry moves to games on proprietary USB drives but they’ll prolly gonna just go digital so they can fuck over the used market.

You’re an idiot.

Got me there champ!

I think the projection was 10 N64 carts for FF7, so pretty much impossible, even with the FMV removed.

I remember reading something like that too.

Nintendo will always be relevant so I will say bright. They cater to a completely different market than 360/PS3 gamers while still getting some of their business as well (like me, I consider myself a 360 gamer but I bought a Wii for titles such as Metroid, Zelda, etc.). Sure everything they do might be gimmicky but they still have the names of Mario, Link, Samus and others which make their brand extremely strong.

FMV was pretty memory intensive tho.

It is possible that it still would not have fit. Like I said I dunno how much of FF7 storage was “Sephiroth stabbing Aeris” and how much was “Fully leveled All = Gil jackpot”. I do seem to remember hearing something somewhere that the entire game was on every CD save for the cutscenes. Perhaps that was some other multidisc rpg or I’m just off my rockers on if FF7 could fit in a cart. I wish I still had access to the select articles I read 15 years ago about why the cart was simply a nail in the coffin and not the whole thing.

I think part of the problem is that Nintendo is kind of judged on their own scale…partly because exclusives are a rarity nowadays…Like, I was looking at the reviews of Punch-Out! and based on numbers, it is on par with a lot “big budget” ps360 games. If it was released only on those systems, and had a different name, it would be blasted to hell for being cheap and derivative. Same thing for games like no more heroes and madworld. On any other system it would be a mediocre title, but on the wii it is over the top, hilarious bloody action. Its not that there aren’t any good games, or fun isn’t to be had, its just I think a lot gamers are upset Nintendo has seemingly gets a free pass because they are Nintendo.

Just so you know…you mentioned a Sony exclusive fitting onto a Nintendo console. That’s beside the point though.

Most of the games that used cutscenes in their games had to use the in-game engine because of the limitations of the cart and because of that they didn’t look as good as an FMV. The N64 cart had hard times with video period for that matter. Excellent example being the Wrestling games from that era. N64 had arguably the best wrestling games during the it’s golden age. The graphics beat out the Smackdown and Warzone/Attitude games of that time but unfortunately the the intro vids for the wrestlers sucked in comparison to the one’s on PS.

Example A
Example B

Then these videos also bring up another point that I had completely forgotten. Music. Playstation actually was able to put in CD quality music while the carts couldn’t do that.

Conservative Christian families? A little descriptive with a touch of ignorant there arent we?

I would say that Nintendo has the opposite problem in that people judge Nintendo far more harshly than PS360. Sure Nintendo fan boys give them a pass and perhaps Grampa too but ask the hard core and Nintendo is basically a black man in the 50’s who gotta work twice as hard as the white man to get by.

Just ask Specs, he seems pretty pissed that Nintendo didn’t bend over backwards to give him all the control options he wants despite the fact that that kind of control options aren’t present virtually anywhere else in the industry save perhaps PC.

Are you saying I mentioned a Sony exclusive meaning FF7 or RE2?

They weren’t going for hardcore gaming communities. You gotta understand that there’s a bigger community of gamers than guys like us.They were touching them with the Gamecube but they outright exposed it with the wii. Now Nintendo specifically said they’re gunning for hardcore gamers now after a decade and a half. Things will be a bit different.

Lol wut?

I guess you are.

Why ask me?

Twisted Metal

that’s a good way to look at it. no bullshit.

It’s judged more harshly because it has a incredible install base with continuously dwindling support.

Specs is right, if the game could playable with a normal controller, many would prefer and stick with the games longer. Having to stay in sensor range or not being able to recline/adjust how I’m sitting…fuck that bullshit. Even the PS3, if I’m forced to play with Sixaxis control enabled like having to shake the fucking controller in Ninja Gaiden Sigma for Ninpo power, chances are I won’t be playing it for long. I had to play Socom Crapfrontation with my guy constantly leaning to the right because the control scheme was unworkable without Sixaxis. Fuck that too.

the quote was directed to the wrong guy. don’t know how it happened. my bad

Lol.

That makes A LOT more sense.
