Full-time Purple Spider Lesbian: Juri Match-up/Strategy Thread

To help ramma out, on Guy’s wakeup he is basically free to be attacked and keep on pressure. Juri’s cr.mk goes under his tatsu allowing for a free punish.

The only guy that you should worry about is ones who can frame trap really well. Mashing cr.tech can be a big no when facing a good guy. Also his air elbow has a ridiculous amount of active frames and a dumb hitbox. You can block it low but I find that dashing under it is always fun cuz it’s telegraphed easily. Also when it comes to blocking guys run follow ups always block low because the overhead kick has slow startup and you can easily switch from low to high blocking.

Thank you both! I tried some of this vs my nemesis tonight and did much better. I think he’s just better than me(as another poster pointed out) but he was surprised with my improvements. I credited SRK research and he became sullen and didn’t even offer to make me tea as per usual(salty). Next time I’ll prolly pwnz him propa like the tyrant I am. Thanks again!

Played against two killer Vega players in endless lobby. Match could be hard, or I could have just been outclassed(Both at 3000 pp). It seems like FSE is a bad choice because of how many escapes he has. Her best shot seems to be looking for a j.MP U2 combo. Fireball pressure was hard to apply, and his pokes are very strong at the range where Juris FB game is most effective.

On the plus side, her cr. HP beats all of his izuna options for free. She will autocorrect and hit him out of the air with proper timing.

Seems you have alot of misconceptions about Vega. FSE is good because of his lack of escape options, especially in the corner, all he had is his flips which can be reacted to, other than that Vega doesnt have any invincible moves, so you can meaty for free, especially in the corner where he cant go anywhere.

Dont fireball often at any point because he can punish fireball store from a fullscreen away.

His Izuna drop is a mixup, theres no 1 answer beats all, depending on where he goes and when he presses the button is the mixup, he can beat cr.hp by crossing you up very late. He can beat focus attacks with the 2 hitter and grabbing you, he can beat jumping attacks by pressing the button really early etc…

I csnt remember the last time I’ve been grabbed by izuma drop that wasn’t on my wake up. Focus attack makes your hitbox too low to be grabbed if it’s not an ex izuma focus always.

Vega has no options to escape. If done right any meaty attack will beat a wall dive. His flip Kick can be stuffed easily and his ultra 2 is his only invincible move that can be baited. Couples in with his lack of claws… Vega is one of the most free defenses in the game.

We just played good Vega who were better players. :3. Really smart who understand the characters limitations but the strengths too. I mean come on… Cross up izuma drop?! That’s unblockable.

J forward HK beats a wall dive but I find it’s sort of random, but it makes him wall dive less so I like it. cr HP beats late wall dives but again it’s random seeming, as sometimes I’ll get hit anyway or thrown without any difference in the dive. The entire match seems more like guessing than many other matchups. Any clear answer to st mp repetition? Tried to FA it but he can follow up very quickly with a few things…

Maybe this was addressed already, but he’s one of my more confusing matches and since you’re on the subject…

Also, with his super; is there a reliable answer? I tend to panic as is. I’d prefer to ruin his day. It’s Vega lol

Juri vs Guy is borderline 8-2 in Juri’s favor… She can use c.MK -> Fireball to go under Guy’s reversal Hurricane Kick nonsense, she can c.LK under Guy’s Elbow Drop (from close) or his cross up attempts – if you time it right, it’ll even trip guard for a combo.

The only problems I have against Guy is if he wakes up with ex.Run xx Slide (but then I’ll start baiting that shit), or if he starts back dashing (then I’ll start reading that shit), or if he spams slide (then I’ll focus). <These are the only 3 things Guy can do against you, so it’s up to you as a player to deal with those.

FA does not whiff? I experienced some FA whiffing on his slide.

I’ll keep in mind the lk and mk’s to avoid his specials. What is a trip guard, exactly? I’ve been seeing some new terms since I was last researching this stuff.

LOVE the video ^,^ There will be blood!

Borderline 8:2 =P So it’s 7-3 =)

FA whiffs on his slide if you do it right away, but if you hold it like you would against Blanka’s slide, it’ll work.

Trip guard means when they do an air attack, they’re vulnerable upon landing, to get hit by whatever move you let them fall into. Usual trip guard in SF4 is throw -_-; That’s why a lot of people you see when they whiff air attacks, go for throw right away, and that’s also the reason why they’re usually teched.

You can still tech throws during the vulnerable landing frames, so there’s no reason not to input it.

Cant be that bad for Guy surely, ive never played a decent one long enough to tell, but it cant be that hard. Duno Juri isnt the kind of character that would have any particular matchup that much in her favour, especially 7-3. The only matchup that was like 7-3 for Juri was vs Thawk in regular super, that was practicaly unwinnable for the poor dude, like it was bad on paper, worse in practise.

The only reason why you can tech throws during the vulnerable landing frames, is because there’s a window of – I forget how many – frames to tech a grab. In the same situation, if the opponent made you land into a meaty anything other than throw, you’d get hit =\

I’m not blaming the person who whiffs the air attack in this situation, I’m pointing the finger at the person choosing to trip guard with throw instead of something that’s more guaranteed to hit -_-; Giving the other person the opportunity to tech after their misread and not punishing them for it only encourages them to keep doing what they’re doing while you could be doing damage instead.

The reason you can tech throws in that situation is simply because they have made it so.
Empty jump has 3f of recovery on the ground, you’re allowed cancel that recovery into specials/super/ultra and you’re able to block and tech throws.
If you have performed an action in the air you still have 3f recovery on the ground, however the recovery can’t be canceled, you’re not allowed to block, but you are allowed to tech throws.

This is why it’s important to always try to punish failed xups and such with a combo instead of a throw.

Still having trouble with Rose these days. It annoys me that my reversals are essentially useless, cr.mp xx drill always trades with expinwheel and puts her at frame advantage. Slide frame traps or slide into grab is equally as annoying and also beats out expinwheel more often than not. So whats the deal then? Bad matchup? Or is there some tid bits im missing in order to make this abit more bareable?

Edit: No obvious stuff like “herp divekick fireballs” please.

Videos would help identify where we could help you =\

The only places where I use ex.Pinwheel outside of fuck-you-mashing is for option-select Rose’s reversals on KD (backdash, ex.Spiral). Against Rose Footsies, I use c.MK, c.HK and s.MK. I think you’re just not picking your pokes at the right time. Rose’s c.MP is incredibly gay and it’s setup from everything you think is punishable =P

These days, I make my rival Rose player rage at how I play =\ I feel the match to be 5.5-4.5 in Juri’s favor, but maybe leaning more towards 6-4 now. shrug

6-4? Maybe u versus him but theres no way the matchup in general is in Juri’s favour, theres no tools that natrually counter hers…and her cr.mp is indeed very gay, you couldnt have described it better tbh, it just seems to beat out all my pokes and whiff punishs really easily, bleh.

Does expinwheel beat ex spiral on wakeup? Surely not?

EX Soul Spiral is a slow reversal, so you can do a safe meaty cr.LK, cl.LK chain option-selected with EX Senpusha.

Ex pinwheel doesnt beat ex soul spiral im sure of it. Whats meant to beat it a standing block or sumin?

edit: Took it to training mode, backdash avoids the option select the majority of the time, its very risky, the pinwheel trades with soul spiral at best, its often beaten out right.

Rose vs. Juri is quite clearly not in Juri’s favor

shrug Maybe it’s just me vs him then~ Or me vs Rose in general =P
