hawk. just know you can punish some of the condor dives with far standing hk. I think ex you can’t punish, i think.
Ken…i have some serious problem with him, i dunno why…i seriously don’t know why. wait i know…THAT FUCKING KARA THROW! i hate it so much! each time i get thrown i get mind fucked hard. I got put into loser by a ken player at ect…>< it was bad. He kept doing random shit and the kara throw and i got blown up.
My advice with ken cr. tech like crazy. and he can’t overhead you with ex tatsu. Ken is much more harder in ae than he was in super. So naturally he’ll be a harder match up for juri. I think it would be 5-5, but who knows =(
Hawk is easy. You zone and watch out for ex condor dive. You also watch out for condor spire as they like to setup throw BS with that.
When you block a condor dive, you dont Far hk, you hk pinwheel that shit. pushes them across the screen and you tear the screen back by back dashing. You honestly CAN rush thawk down, but it takes a little foresight and its really risky. I like to rush him down from time to time so he stays humble and keeps him on his toes.
JuriKills, i actually will disagree. DONT tech too much. Ken has a lot of shit now that can blow up tech throws. You play him like Ryu with a longer grab range. Thats it. If he hits you with overhead, so what.
My suggestion is to zone him until you get a kd of some kind. After that, you j.hp to bait his DP, and push him into the corner. From there you can throw fireballs safely and pressure him from a far while out poking him. watch for step kick. If h hits you with it…dont mash anything…block and awtch for overhead or throw.
If he tries to ex tatsu over you, c.hp will sometimes work. If he firballs, you dive kick. this will force him to stay honest on those and use more step kick. We stuff those with far mk and far mp.
This match is winnable, but Ken’s have really good pressure tools. Be careful but be calm. Its not as scary as it might seem.
Ken?
You divekick fireballs on reaction. Offline it’s 5-5.
Yup, Ken is def 5-5. His offense is pretty good but not horrible…just gotta block and tech.
It’s not easy divekicking on reaction to a good Ken throwing fireaballs, since he will be throwing them just outside of his c.mk range, so the time you have to react with a jump is very short. It’s not like any decent player is going to try those far range fireballs against any decent Juri-player. What’s good though is that if you sniff out a mid range fireball attempt, it’s punishable by ex dive.
Practice it more. If I’m far away I’m throwing fireballs getting some info. See if they’re gonna throw more fireballs and see what they’re gonna do. If they’re gonna throw a fireball i can dive it on reaction.
Stay mid screen. As soon as you see it start, you dive kick. Just gotta work on it.
Ken uses fireball at the same range he uses f+mk, so Juri in that situation isn’t far away throwing fireballs.
Gouken and guile are the only ones I have problems with.
The only characters I have problems with are:
Sagat (If they actually know the matchup)
Fei (occasionally, a lot of good fei’s dont know the matchup so that instantly makes things a bit easier )
Dan (yeah, If he gets a knockdown, hes a very real threat. His mixup is so retardedly effective vs Juri on wakeup its not even funny)
Guile (If they air throw a lot)
Other than that, I feel pretty confident in my matchups. I know a lot of people complain about the twins, but honestly I feel like most people respect them too much and play for too passive vs them. Yeah, the twins are really good. No, theyre not such a force to the point where the other player wins on the character select screen. Iunno, just my two cents.
I was talking about fireballs, but I can completely understand the dan statement. Good thing is that you can zone him REALLY well He cant get in. Sagat is not that bad. I made IloveuJoe realize not to play my juri with. he plays my Juri with his Yun. I can break him open though…he doesnt study.
I agree K1. We respect them too much. GET OUT OF THERE! Make a read and dont get caught in the mix up.
Guile is annoying. You really have to be patient with him, I think. If you predict Sonic Booms, Juri can go under them with cr.MK or cr.HK, but it’s risky to try to get too close to him because he can threaten f+HP. If you can pick up on your opponent’s charging habits or can guess when he is charging based on animations, you can try to poke when you think he has charge and can’t use f+HP. Otherwise, you pretty much have to play the fireball game with him. Try to get a meter advantage, and use that in conjunction with LK Fuhajin to get a health advantage. If you get Ultra, I would say to just go ahead and activate it just to make cr.HK cancelable. Being able to cancel cr.HK into Fuhajin releases makes it much easier to get chip damage on him, and you have a pretty good chance of getting combos/mix-ups if he tries to do something random to counter it (like a Flash Kick). If you ever get a knockdown, start rushing down as much as possible, since his wakeup/reversal game is pretty mediocre.
Guile is no problem. I fireball war until i get a KD. Usually its from a trade off of a ex low. I’m fine with that. I then get in there. Guile cant beat you in the fireball war. Remember that, believe that…and you can beat a majority of guiles. Make sure you’re kicks are on point and you neutralize his sonic booms with lows and mids. If you throw mid and he throws boom, you have a slight advantage on the next fireball turn.l
Guile’s like to believe that they can eventually wear you down into rushing in. Show the patience of a Turtle and keep the fireball’s coming. Try to read the ex fireballs and you’re fine. Absorb some to build meter and if you’re smart you can activate Ultra 1. Guile eventually will defeat himself.
EX sonic booms, you can literally react with cr.mk and she will go under. Some guile’s will be like the WTF and waste meter just to see if you can do it again. If you have an mk fireball stored, hit lp and release mk to make it go away, then cr.mk
Yes, Juri is a lesbian. She just keeps hope alive for guys for the mindgames. SPEAKING OF GUY: help me kill guy. A friend of mine is working me into a frenzy with that nonsense.
^^ Guy is a one of Juri’s easier matchups unless the Guy player is way better than the Juri player.
I’m afraid that isn’t much help. Please go into matchup details? His attacks seem to stuff much of what I try to do. I can only zone for a while before he gets in, and once he does it’s quite hectic. My FA whiffs vs a lot of his attacks, such as the slide, and my anti air HK seems to trade and that’s never good. Sorry for being a lesser player, but I didn’t post here to be told the obvious.
Don’t misread me, this thread has been very helpful in regards to facing characters like Bison, Blanka, and others who I found to be a bit much vs my Juri. My your standards, I’m sure, I’m a casual player… but I do my homework and like to perform the slick setups I slaved over. I can’t really do that when I’m getting Guy-rushdowned. I guess we all have different experiences with this game, huh?
Thanks
the cr.mk thing, i didnt know that, tried it today, works a treat, thats the sort of shit i like to see, those kind of matchup tid bits are very handy.
Yes that’s pure gold! Some people are so helpful here.
But if you have the mk fuhajin stored, can lk really be hit and the projectile release in time for the EX boom? really? Seems like the boom would be too fast for that. Must be a stick thing! I’ll try it anyway.
Yea ever since I learned how good of an anti projectile character juri is I practiced stuff like dash under fireball, cr.mk to hit opponents as they throw a fireball, and fireball store. All that stuff for WTF factor. But the only useful one I find is cr.mk under EX sonic booms because it’s so easy and frustrating guile into attacking is possibly the best goal.
I’ll give you some basic Guy advice because I usually eat Guy alive. First of all, you should not be trying to anti air with HK. Use cr. MP or cr. HP. St. MK and st. HP are also better options, but the former two are the best.
Don’t go air to air with Guy, he’ll throw you all day. When you consider his air throws, anti air spin kick, anti-air super, etc. Being in the air in general against Guy (at least as Juri anyway), is bad news IMO. Or at the very least, a gamble. Don’t jump too much and don’t be predictable when you do.
Your best pokes in this match to keep him out are definitely cr. MP and st. MK (cr. MK too, of course). Zone him, make him desperate. If you see him run towards you make him pay for it (but don’t pull the trigger too quickly or he’ll stop the run and hurt you). If he is abusing his wake up spin kick (like us Juri’s tend to do sometimes), it is a free cr. HP xx Ex Pinwheel or Ultra punish.
Option two is you can stay on his ass like white on rice and don’t give him a second to breathe. Guys best attacks come from mid-screen or the air (I think so anyway), so I think the best thing you can do is be in his face or laugh at him from the other end.
Well if you already have a MK fireball stored, it would be best to jump or block. You can’t ex fireball back at him because your MK button is being used and you obviously can’t cr. MK. So you are forced to jump or block. I guess you could Counter Teleport as well I think.
