Full-time Purple Spider Lesbian: Juri Match-up/Strategy Thread

If you block it, use Shikusen. Otherwise, a standard c.MK/c.HP xx Senpusha punish works.

Focus attacks usually work well. Backdash out of them since they will usually not cause a buckle. Depending on the height and angle, you can use c.LP to hit her out of it or get a favorable trade with c.HP. c.MP sometimes beats it, but it’s not favorable if it trades.

First of all, make sure to crouch when you see it. You can usually anti-air with c.LP, c.MP, or c.HP.

I must just be messing up the timing of the focus on Canon strike. I feel like I pay for it half the time. Too slow I guess.

Does apply to ex hooligan as well?

Thanks

The reason is you’re releasing it too late. Its too tough to do against a really shallow Strike. Its only really useful against like…a full jump cannon strike. You’re gonna eat something very bad doing that. Counter and get out of there. Or…try and anti air it. I suggest counter and reset the pressure.

Ex hooligan is easy. Space it right and ex pinwheel for max damage. Bait it and punish it hard. If its a meaty hooligan c.lk should force a whiff. Otherwise…anti air like a champ.

Oh yeah, that’s another good option. I just don’t use it much except for getting out of corners because it doesn’t net any damage or meter.

You live though. Heh.

Got blown up at a local tourney right before UFGT. Fought a tough rog who went in on me without dash punches and just walked forward and stuffed my fireball game pretty much making me rely on my pokes. Same thing with a chun and shit. I choked in some of the matches too, so they’re my fault. But still how do i stop the disrespect in those match up. Do I stock a fireball and keep running around avoiding any close up with my opponent and play it lame?

Sounds to me like your too used to online/casual play. You will find in tournament, stuff like jumping and random dash punches (in balrogs case) is significantly less than you will be used to. And there in lies the difference of competitive vs casual street fighter play, you now have to factor in or rather increase the factor of risk vs reward. Random dash punchs easily lose to neutral jumping full screen or buffering moves into low pokes, so they might be less inclined to start off with it. You have to do the same and adapt, which may or may not be unfortunate to you, it doesnt mean throwing less fireballs but if hes clearly doing well and teaching you not to use them, guess what, dont use them because your risking too much.

It just sounds to me, no offence, is that they figured you out really quickly and found a really efficient method at steam rolling you. You gotta figure out how to appoach someone on your own, its not so much matchup orrientated at this point from what your saying so much as your missing out something more fundamental. You just need to play the game more and it will come in time, you develop your own ways of figuring people out etc… id also enter as many tournies as possible too since tourney experience is also very important.

That is what i lacked the most mike, tourney experience. I chocked a lot of the times because of my nerves. I’ve never been in such a place as that! That rog who beat me won the whole thing. He was good, bodied everyone he played. I am so reliant on my fireball game that once it is taken away from me i panic, but what i realized afterward that juri has combos that set up the fireball, no duh. Just when the nerves hit you, you go blank. It got better as the tourney went on, but no soon enough because i got eliminated from pools. I never realized how badly i could body myself, but i gotta stop psyching myself out.

Yeah totally know where your coming from there. To help get the most out of a tourney id imagine you should sign up to every game you play + consider picking more games up. Like i do SSF, BBCS and MvC3 where in MvC3 i dont even play well. Locals are the ones i usually do well in if not win the whole thing, its majors that pych me out like shit, conquer your local scene first, then i suppose thats one stepping stone your over.

That’s some solid advice mike. For the past day or so i was down in the dumps. But it was a great reality check and helped me understand what i need focus on and improve on these next few days. I should also definitely enter more games just for the heck of it.

Juri’s fireball game is really important, but don’t let it distract you from playing footsies, since that’s generally always the main focus in Street Fighter. Balrog has a great footsies game with his walk speed and normals, but think about what he’s sacrificing to use those. If he’s walking forward, he’s not charging, so he can’t do special moves. This also means he has no access to armor-breakers. Go ahead and use your focus attack. If you land one, you can most likely corner him and then lock him down there. The main thing you really have to worry about at that point is an EX rush punch, which you can counter with EX Senpusha when you see it.

The most important skill you need to have to do well in tournament situations is to be able to adapt. If you can analyze every situation like this and think of a solution, you become a much stronger player.

I wish there were more locals around here. But when I move to cincinatti I will try to set some up at the arcade around there. First tourney I went to was seasons beatings, I didn’t play but cheered and stuff. Second tourney was PowerUp, I played some casuals but just from those I felt extremely nervous from the crowd. I don’t really wanna do big tourneys yet because of the hype factor. When I an setup my own local tourneys then I’m sure I’ll calm down.

Also question about the Cammy matchup. Has anyone ever had a Cammy do a hooligan loop on them? At first I just started backdashing to get out but then when he realized I knew how to escape he just let it fly to hit me. I was wondering if you could possibly wakeup U2 for Cammy when see that she’s trying to do the loop?

I also realized that i can footsie all of his punches before they land except for his ex. Like i said, i drew blanks, and i’ve fought the rog match up plenty of times. My friend plays a chun, and i had to face him in pools, but he walks forward and shoots a kikoken. So if i try to focus it or anything he’s already ready for it. he also plays juri so he knows what i’m trying to do to begin with. Just i dunno what i can do to counter that in particular.

You can force your character to have crouching hitboxes on wakeup by doing a crouching normal. I’m not sure about this, but you might be able to get it just by mashing.

Well I’ll try it next time but idk hopefully it works

You can certainly mash out of it, just mash on jab and short with both fingers really fast when you see it while holding crouch.

Pretty quiet up here in the sticky threads as of late…

Anyways, can Juri do anything off a blocked tandem engine? (The special move, not the ultra)

In my opinion, Juri has an even matchup of getting cornered or Vega into a corner, simply because she can be played rushdown or keep away in a sense.

Well you havent answered my question. She doesn’t have an even chance of being cornered. Juri can do whatever she wants and corner vega. Vega has to work to push me in the corner. The only move he has that forces me back is ex roll. Juri has sempusha, dive kicks and forward throw.

So again, the question remains. If the match goes to whoever gets cornered first, juri has a higher chance of cornering so the match should be in her favor.

Make sense?

In all honesty it depends on which character plays the corner better. I’m just saying she can possibly play a decent turtle/keepaway game, better than Vega especially considering one of his strengths is high mobility.
