Did you check your PM wii?
Mythos. How your training coming along?
I did and as I believe you said to me “Wow” so I’m gonna need a bit of free time to get back you, your effort deserves it
I stopped arguing with people calling chun easy-mode after I heard a boxer player call her a “one button win-character” :
Chun’s one of the harder if not the harderst character to master and win consistently with, but that’s something you can realize only if you are a good player or if you played her.
People usually see c.viper as one of the hardest. She sure has a harder execution than the average sf4 character, but once you’ve got that down you have a lot of different defensive options (that can lead into big damage) and ambiguous setups to bully your opponent without actually taking any risk.
I personally think she’s also one of the better balanced characters. She has a lot of good tools, but none of them is abusable over and over or too strong, she has no free-win matchups but no impossible matchup either cause she has the tools to deal even with the harder matchups (and that’s what makes other characters badly designed, when they have easy wins with some of the cast and super-hard matchups against some others)
Definitely gotta say that the Chun community has developed really well.
Feeling a Chun-streak comin’ on.
I hope that the OP made this thread with the intention of getting all the chun li mains to defend his/her character choice. how can one justify going into a chun li thread and expect the players maining her to admit she has annoying things to deal with? I personally have trouble with the chun li match up and I believe she is a great character. I do not feel chun li needs any nerfs/changes however; i do believe she has an abundance of safe options and tricky things to deal with. ex. DF hard kick cross up, safe on block crouch techs, incredible throw range and easy tick throw setups. You would be hard pressed to find a character with better normals combined with her great movement speed. I would not blame my losses on a character but chun is much better than many of the chun mainers are making her out to seem. defend your character (we all do) but I can see clear as day how a newer player would have a difficult time dealing with neutral kick tick throws, ex leg reversals into ultra, df hard kick cross ups among many other things. Let’s all be honest with ourselves just because it is your main does not mean you have to immediately get offended and say you have to “work hard” for those wins its all in the match up/experience of the player. in hindsight i believe you should try and help your friend with the match up instead of going online to have other people make you feel better about your character choice. play whoever you like and try to get along with your friend people are very concerned with being the best all the time lets all remember why we started playing street fighter in the first place. because its fun so have fun with it.
only characters in this game that are complete bs are those with vortexs. i lost to ibuki, abels, akumas and many other characters like this who only know how to mixup but when i do win i hit them with 10 fierces in a row. funny part is this happened to me on many occasions offline then they get mad. i always ask why they never block but they could never give me an answer. some of the supposedly best players at guard crush play like this yet they keep winning.
df.hk is bs, if you are getting hit by it you deserve it, is like when bipsons chip the hell out with stomps, when you know you can do plenty of stuff to shut that down.
I agree. Anyone who gets hit by abused df hk crossups deserves it. This reminds me of when I get hate mail from people who say hazanshus are cheap when they can’t just LEARN TO BLOCK HIGH and hazanshus are slow as shit
There are some set ups that make d/f.HK really hard to block in all fairness, its not the amazing tool newer player both Chuns and people that face Chun think it is but it can be made so impossibly ambiguous and timed to stop Auto-correction so I can see how you can get hit by it. Just not in the way most Chun’s seem to use it and get away with using it like that as well
It’s like playing Eddie in guilty gear, people are going to give you shit no matter what for playing a good character, so expect some salt
When you get SRK’d or focused on reaction to your hasan-shu… thats about the point you learn that its not an amazing move.
The only thing more annoying than people hating on Chun are newcomers who try to shit on how you play when they are either a.playing recklessly with her b.mash ex legs, c.grab endlessly because they cant execute a variety of BNB combos/blockstrings to save their life.
I came across someone like this yesterday. He proceeded to tell me that since I was keeping him out, that my style was “lame” and that I clearly did not know how to play at all. LOL, wut?!?!
This happens a lot and I don’t even play a particularly turtle style Chun, just seems that some people think if you’re not jumping in and constantly trying to do a gazzilion hit combo’s you’re a scrub… A friend of mine gets the best hatemail for his Bison just because he has impossibly good defence and is happy to sit back on a life lead.
It’s like the game only came out last week the view some people have on what constitutes playing well at this game lol
Yay, some Abel talk outside of the Abel forums. Chun is a tough match-up for Abel, she can out footsie Abel with her great walk speed, she has great pokes, and a very good back-dash that can get her away from trouble real fast, she can also short into Legs or Ultra. As an Abel player the hardest part is getting in on Chun and keeping her there, but getting in is not always so easy, so I can see why your friend feels that way, it is just the style of the match-up that makes it frustrating on both sides.
Abel will have a hard time getting in, gets out-poked, takes damage throughout the match. If Abel gets in then he has to make the most of the small opportunity (can’t drop combos -1 frame link step kicks- or get Ex-SBK’d/eat shorts into Ultra or let Chun back-dash or jump out)
On the other end of the spectrum, Chun-Li players have worked hard to keep Abel out, pokes, zoning, etc… One small mistake can lead to big damage. (breathless 50% of my life OMG, more like 40% now in AE I think :-/, or get baited Ex-SBK -> Tornado Throw punished or even Ultra’d)
Like I said, the style of the match is just frustrating for both players, so there is two sides to every story. If your friend has a hard time getting in then it will seem frustrating to him for the most part, if you escape easily then he needs to work on the match-up some more. Chun is tough no doubt, but it is not one-sided.
Eh… I feel like I shouldn’t ever lose the Abel match consistently. Like you say Chun has too many tools to stop him, and I don’t see a great answer for him. If I am losing, I’m just being too predicatble/not thinking properly.
On a related note, I beat some random Rose online recently and got this message back:
“LoL, fuck that. You won the first game so you think I’m free and are just gonna start mashing shit? That ain’t right. You should respect the player more after how I played in the first game - it was close. Anyway, fair play. GG.”
Now normally I don’t respond much to hate mail. But thanks to the fact that playing on PC makes it SO much easier to reply and the fact that he started talking about ‘respect’ I had to call him out. Tell him I barely remember the match to be honest, and the fact that I was Chun means I don’t even have decent reversals to mash out… so I didn’t know what he was talking about. Then I point out I figured out that he was just mashing out EX soul spiral during my blockstrings that I got hit once by, and just baited and punished every time after that. I told him that yeah the first game was close healthwise, but honestly all I was doing was downloading him and I never felt out of control. I get this back:
“Yeah, you’re right man. I knew all that before I even sent the message. You were solid… had me downloaded after round one. I’ve had a chance to cool off now; it was just random rage and salt. Disregard my comment if you wish. GG and well played.”
“I just get so mad at this game when I know that /I/ could have done better. It’s nothing personal. Looking forward to our next game.”
WHATS THIS? SOMEONE BEING REASONABLE ONLINE?!?
This was noteworthy. Otherwise its people like you say claiming that I’m just holding down/back and countering, and saying I’m terrible for it (I don’t even play a overly defensive Chun, but all they remember apart from actually losing is the fact my they could never open me up properly and my footsies were on point). If I feel like it I ask them for a rematch and swear I’m just going to rush them down… which I do and destroy them. Ragequits all round. Glorious.
Not Chun, but Jack-6 he hates Jack-6
Chun’s legs require mashing just to keep up with and it makes everyone but Honda (Gen doesn’t count) players jealous.
I main chun and sub honda. I have to say i find honda’s HHS more useful than chun’s legs. The step in for the :hp: HHS is insane for keeping pressure. Plus the follow up with a standing :hk: brings the combo to about 250dmg or something. Also for some reason I have an easier time with the inputs for HHS vs Legs. I can piano them both fine, but Honda’s just seems more forgiving.
If CAPCOM gave Chun a command throw or dive kick… I would never leave her side hahaha.
Yes she’s a very cheap character imo. Your friends are right. She is THE only character with lvl 1 fadc that’s safe on block. Also hazaanshu is too safe on block considering it’s speed, and the overhead ability. Also her pokes are too good and her backdash is too good. All those things need nerfs. My brother works for Capcom and he’s getting chuns hazaanshu nerfed. I hope he can pull some other stuff off but he can do only so much. Don’t believe me hey your call. I cant say his name or position of course just watch. Back when e.Ryu was hinted I told everyone my brotold me he was in and he was. Just wwatch.
