FPS fans unite oh TPS people too!

I’m not hardcore FPS but I was wondering what you vets think of killzone 2 and resistance 2 on the ps3? I am thinking about picking them up when they come out.

My favorite would have to be Day of Defeat, both the original and Source, but the original more for the fact that no game to this day has ever made me download more custom maps than that game did. Houstondod.com, when it was around, had a crapload of custom maps. It’s amazing how a simple game formula of CTF with WW2 weapons is just so intense and fun. If both sides had a good team, there was nothing better than battling so much that flags would come and go over and over.

What got me started… I believe it was Goldeneye 64.

So many FPS games I’ve played and loved. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (Loved it back in the day and still have it. Medal of Honor: Frontline as well), Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield: Vietnam (Well… this was alright, but I didn’t too much care for it), Call of Duty (Nothing better than my days playing on that 24/7 Dawnville server, Happy Penguin Playground which I’m unsure if it’s still up or not, where there was 2 hour team deathmatch battles. I loved it, especially when the enemy team started to spawn closer and closer and kept coming).

A game that should get more exposure, is Delta Force 1 and 2. That game was insane back in the day. I loved it. HUGE maps, lots of people online, great weapons, everyone just racing to fight each other and then all it takes is just one shot and then from that point on, it’s endless gunfire for hours. The single player missions for Delta Force 1 and 2 were great too. Taking over bases with coordinated teams, hostage extractions, night missions, it had it all. Two teams, and everyone had their own pathways to things and the AI was great. Delta Force has to be the first game where I really cared about all of my teammates making it back and staying alive. This brought back a lot of memories.

My first fps was Doom.

I don’t really have one favorite game but I do love the Unreal Tournament, Battlefield (PC), and Half-life series. I’m surprised not many others have mentioned Battlefield. How could you not love the classes system and the ability to use tanks, planes, ships, etc.? I played the original 1942 and it’s mod, Desert Combat, so much back in the day. My fav would be BF2 because of it’s ranking system.

I wish the Star Wars: Dark Forces series got more attention. Jedi Outcast was great. There hasn’t been any mention of a future sequel but I’ll still keep hoping for an announcement one day.

I’m hyped for both of them. I love the implementation of a class system in Killzone 2. Resistance 2 sounds cool with the idea of small battles within a larger war with included objectives.

So to get started what is your favorite fps?
Unreal tournament 2k4
What’s the first fps you’ve ever played?
Unreal Gold
which fps do you love/hate/wish got more attention?
I absolute hate gear of war and UT3

Timesplitters 1, 2, and 3 were all AMAZING. Timesplitters 1 specifically was the first FPS I truely loved. So many memories.

Unreal Tournament GOTY = splooge. UT04 and UT3 were also amazing. I can never choose which is my favorite.

Quake 3 is amazing as well, and I know I’m gonna get shit for this, but Quake 4 is best of series for me.

Duke Nukem 3D is the most charming FPS ever. Nothing else has ever come close. Hell, it’s one of the most charming game ever made in the US.

I’m not a huge fan of a lot of modern FPS games. I like sci-fi with robots, aliens, and awesomely huge plasma cannons… No, Halo doesn’t count… Although the first Halo was actually really fun (single player).

guys i’m gonna tell you about shogo, it hasn’t aged well at all.

I still have to play through the avp games because I’m just scared shitless playing it. Same with fear.

You guys should check out prey’s single player. It’s fun and short so it won’t get repetitive and it’s one of the best experiences I’ve played through that doesn’t involve world war or modern era environments.

I really miss the golden era of q2 and hl where mods were coming out weekly and it wasn’t all just counterstrike, dod and ctf.

Goldeneye was the first ever FPS I ever played. I really started getting into FPS when Unreal Tournament came out. I remember downloading that off Kazaa as it was only like ~120 megs.

YES yes yes omg yes. Sorry but its such an underrated game. This is the only game I could play for hours and hours on end that didn’t have Street Fighter or Capcom in the title. Personally I feel its the most complex, team oriented game ever.

oh yeah all the talk about “team oriented gameplay” made me remember planetside.

Right now its all about TF2. For multiplayer, it really is the king right now.

Favorite FPS would have to be Unreal Tournament Series of CS/DOD. The multiplayer fun in those 2 games alone gave me countless memories.

First FPS i played was Doom, of course i had to use the cheat codes to pass it as way back then, keyboard was new to me.

Series i believe didnt get enough attention would be Soldier of Fortune.

fav is unreal tournament 2k4 or quake 3 cpm…first is wolfenstein…i wish quake 3 cpm would get played more, it is the best competative game hands down…

im outi

Roberth

First fps:
Wolfenstein 3D x)
Then Doom / doom 2 / Duke nukem 3D (aaah it was so good in LAN^^)

Favorites:
Quake II / Quake IV (didn’t really like Quake III mainly because of the “multiplayer only” part ^^)
Unreal (the first one, it was quite something at the time)
Deus Ex (still playing it)
As for more recent ones: i think the one i liked the most was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
I played crysis/bioshock, and while both were pretty good, and bioshock had a unique feeling, i liked stalker more.

My first was Wolf3D. It seemed like such a masterpiece at the time… the atmosphere in that game creeped me out as a kid.

My favourite is Deus Ex, by a hair over Half-Life.

The fps that deserves more attention in my eyes is System Shock 2. I’m glad people are finding out about it through Bioshock and I know most retrogamers are aware of it, but it really is a landmark title that still holds up today.

system shock 2 was so good IS soooo goood. goddamn that game is good. and to that guy who mentioned heretic… lol, i remember i didnt have a computer that could run it smoothly back then, so i would go try to scam time at the local game center in between saturn virtua fighter. good times:smokin:

I always figured SS2 was one of those really cool games that sort of blend genres together.

In any case, while I do think it’s a super great game, I’m too big of a pussy to play it.

For me, it all started with Operation wolf (arcade), then Goldeneye and perfect dark on the N64:rock:

Later on a small taster of wolfenstein 3d, then came along Halo:bgrin:

oops

to elaborate

So to get started what is your favorite fps? Team Fortress 2.
What’s the first fps you’ve ever played? Wolfenstein 3D. But DOOM / DOOM II soon after, and the one I actually PLAYED at any length was Duke Nukem 3D.
Which fps do you love/hate/wish got more attention? I love TF2. I wish more of the people that I know played it so I could start a TF2 team or something. I also wish Duke Nukem 3D’s High Resolution pack was actually more popular and got some play online, but that will probably never happen!

Oh yeah can’t forget about Jumping Flash 2 for the PSX.
It’s a fps with some action adventure elements in it but
still a very solid/fun game indeed.

Awesome can’t wait, BTW your avatar is beastly.
