Wolfenstien was my first, but doom/2 really got me addicted to fps’
some of my all time faves:
-deus ex (so much more than a fps)
-unreal tournament (hardcore fraging goodness)
-duke nukem (I thought this game was the coolest shit ever when it came out)
-half-life (all the mods!!! CS, Fire Arms, DoD, etc.)
-call of duty 4 (rebirth of the online fps… for me atleast)
So to get started what is your favorite fps?
Hard to say… Fav FPS of all time… in terms of logging lots of hours… CS would have to be it

Bitter hate for Halo MP… but i have much love for Halo SP.
The only FPS’s that get regular play by me are Day of Defeat, Unreal Tournament in whatever flavor is the most current because I don’t really care about detailed mechanics in FPS’s like I do in fighters, and some Counterstrike. I do not like the source versions of CS or DoD. Really, though, Day of Defeat is the only FPS that has me jonesin’ to get some good 'ole head-shot’liscious action in. :tup:
I hated halo 1. Loved halo 2. Halo 3 is fun but the maps arent as good as 2.
For me it would be CoD 4 I absolutely love it, also UT: GOTY it was my first FPS and I still play it from time to time.

Not a single mention of Blood? That game was awesome. Sort of Duke Nukem minus sci-fi plus horror.
Wolf3D was probably my first FPS but DOOM is what really hooked me. Did a lot of DOOM/DOOM II playing back in the day. Duke Nukem 3D was of course awesome, and as I mentioned, Blood.
Quake was the fucking shit. I didn’t get much into Quake 2, I wish the Quake series had stuck with the slipgate theme instead of the Strogg bullshit. Got into Q3A a little late into the game. Never cared much for Unreal, but played it here and there.
That reminds me. If that first era of 3D FPS explosion, I think Hexen was my favorite (besides Shogo).

I never really liked FPS games but of course the first one I ever played was doom on the snes. I really got addicted to the unreal tournament series for a while though and became pretty good at it too as I usually suck bad in FPS games. Played a bit of COD4 too , I enjoyed it but never could get good at it. Right now I’m playing Team Fortress 2, despite my lack of interest in FPS games I got to say that this one is pretty damn amazing and been playing it everyday for like 1 week now.
Unreal Tournament 99 (or 2004) and Return to Castle Wolfenstein for PC.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Any WW2 shooters after are just clones of this fantastic game.
If you’re into squad combat, the original Ghost Recon for the PC or earlier Swat 3 games.
Only console shooters worth playing are GE64 and Halo 1 (before it turned into BS).
Slap some high-res texture packs on all of these games and they are as good as new.

Anyone know if Shogo runs on XP? I still got it but haven’t played it since my mom’s ol Presario back in the day.
I used to play the shit out of Shogo, Septerra Core, and Descent: Freespace. Septerra Core is still the only RPG I’ve ever beaten. In any case, I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work.

Some of my all time favorite FPS games would have to be UT 2004, Weapons Factory Arena (Quake 3 mod), Firearms (HL mod), Battlefield 2 before the expansions, Tribes 2

my favorite? i would say the ones i’ve had the most fun with are quake2, quake3 and return to castle wolfenstein (rtcw) multiplayer.
and i wish rtcw would’ve gotten more attention. the MP on that game was too good, but i guess it wasn’t very easy to get into (need to learn classes, maps, you completely depend on your team, etc) and so it never had a huge fanbase.
it’s a shame not too many people have mentioned quake3. i agree with the other poster that said that it’s the best fps ever. physics, balance, it has everything. just check out the first few minutes of this video. physics are not modified btw. quake3 is too good.
UT (the original) is the last FPS i played seriously. Oh, and the first Jedi Knight. I play a little Halo, but don’t own a system to play it on. My skills with a mouse are toilet level now.
