FPS fans unite oh TPS people too!

Doom 1+2, Duke 3D, Blood, Hexen, Heretic, Quake 2, Serious Sam 1st encounter (2nd encounter was a mixed bag but still a good experience).

And Magic Carpet.

So to get started what is your favorite fps? Rise of the Triads
What’s the first fps you’ve ever played? Doom
which fps do you love/hate/wish got more attention? Halo/MW(even though I’m good at it)/MDK

Looking back on my posts in this thread I don’t like COD games in general as much anymore I think the online community has something to do with it:rofl:

I’ll take over UT04 over UT3 now lol. Good to see Quake Live getting still getting love. I really wish they would release a sequel to UT2: TLC that was the most gdlke shooter period, basically DBZ and fps combined:rofl:

Im looking forward to playing Homefront, Crysis 2 and Duke Nukem. I still havnt played BFBC2: NAM’ yet… :frowning:

I’m more hype for C2 then I’ve been for any COD because I loved the first 1 and warhead both sp and mp but mainly because the concept of using crazy nanosuit powers appeals more to me then the realistic custom loadout style of COD. Generally I like crazy shit in my fps games as long as it’s not broken.

Edit: edited my old posts in this bitch, my appreciation for other shit has definitely changed since I made this thread and I said some dumb shit lol.

God I can’t stand Halo or CoD.

KZ3’s controls will undoubtedly attract a larger online fanbase than KZ2 did. Not sure how I feel about that.

I don’t really feel Halo is overrated, bit I could never get into it. I really dislike most of the weapons. That’s really it.

I love COD, but I don’t play it all that often due to time constraints.

Didn’t buy BO or Reach now should I get KZ3 or wait for C2? (I loved KZ2 MP and C1.)

My favorite, my first, and the one I wished had more games made like it: Classic DOOM/DOOM2.

DOOM really pioneered something WAY different than what DOOM was. Go back and play it. Does it really feel like Half-Like or even like a retro DOOM3? Or does it feel like… semi-3D Super Mario World with its run button, fast main character, and dumb predictable enemies? Not to mention the first game had a world map and both classic DOOMs have secret exits leading to entirely optional secret levels ala Mario World.

Classic DOOM was, especially with the right custom levels, supremely fast paced, kinda like the ultimate version of Dynasty Warriors: you vs. armies of goons, but unlike DW you have to move and swerve and dodge at breakneck speed, sending back fire all the time. Yeah, enemies shoot at where you are instead of where you’re going to be, but you have to consider enemies with infinitely quick projectiles (human enemies mainly, but the Arch Vile and Spider Mastermind fits in here too), enemies that shoot spreads of bullets (Mancubus), enemies that shoot so many constant projectiles that you have to deal with it with more than just the occasional sidestep (Arachnotron), enemies that are easy to dodge but take a long time to kill and one mistake is your doom (Cyberdemon), etc.

I like me some Reach or some Half-Life 2, but the enemies all feel like the same dumb AI variants of a common model. I wanted DOOM3 to be a continuation of what the original two games were, not id Software’s poor attempt to emulate the innovative attempt to emulate their original brainchild.

Anyone wanna get into S4?

I played Doom back in the day and loved it too. I was actually pretty damn good at it as well. Not the best in the world or anything, but barely anybody played back then and I was the best in our computer lab.

But I recently played Crysis and I sucked at it. It also bored me to tears. When I looked for reviews everyone kept saying how easy the game was and they had to play it on the highest difficulty just for it to be fun.

Man, I was dying on normal difficulty and it seemed boring. I couldn’t run and gun at all, it was very slow and boring for me instead if I wanted to survive. Plus I’d still die.

I’m wondering how Crysis rates and if other people really liked it, and if so, how to have fun with it and how you’re supposed to play the game?

The only reason I played it was to check out my rig’s capabilities. Wasn’t even that impressed with the graphics. Give me a game like Magicka anyday, those graphics look nicer to me than “real” graphics. I’ve actually been outside. But I haven’t been able to do really awesome things in a more cartoony environment.

Yea I was disappointed when DOOM3 was a dark, narrow corridors shooter with shit biting you in the ass, despite having cleared the room already. I mean I enjoyed DOOM3 but it didn’t really feel like DOOM to me. DOOM always reminded me more of an arcade shmup but done in 3D. It’s fast paced and ruthless.

Anyway I like most any FPS with a compelling or engaging campaign. Only one i play online is Reach. Really like Halo online tho I suck at it heh.

Edit: At above post. I really, seriously think a lot of people brag about games being too easy and having to bump them up to find them fun. I’ll agree that a lot of times normals pretty easy (which is the point) but hard and extremes tend to be pretty well done these days so floods of people going “Game sucks too easy” feels like chest puffing to me a lot of the time. When it comes to Crysis tho I can’t honestly say cuz i never had a good enough PC to play it. It’s made by the guys who did Far Cry tho and those games where about being creative in how you approached a fight so i bet Crysis is the same way. You wanna use your suits capabilities to create creative opportunities for yourself. Thats my assumption anyway.

What specs said.

Doom 1 & 2 /thread.

As I see it.

Crysis 1 and more so Warhead are sandbox games very similar to the Farcry series. You can run n gun, be stealthy, etc. I really loved both games single player and multiplayer and think a lot of people who dismiss the series as “good graphics but terrible game play” have either never played it and repeat what they read online or played it for less then an hour.

The sequel was a huge improvement in every way though fixing some of the bad glitches of C1.

Anyone buy KZ3?

My first FPS was Doom 2 followed by the first Doom and then the Death Match which I only played a couple times with one of my old child hood friends. I’ve played a good share of FPS when I was a kid, Golden Eye on the N64, Wolfenstein 3d, Quake, Duke Nukem, etc. But the campaign modes were meh(for the most part), and that’s all you could do back in the 90’s.

I guess 2008 was when I got into FPS on next gen console. I think the order it went was: Killzone 2, World at War, BF Bad Company , Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare(present) When MW2 came out, it was ridiculous. I never spent so much time on a FPS than this one. But I learned a lot from this game that carried over to other games(not camping, but playing more defensively and tactful) I am now drilling campaign on Modern Warfare tell the PSN is back up.
I personally absolutely hate Halo and will end it there.

This needs to come out. Now. It makes me miss the days when shooters we’re actually, you know, fun.

UT99 and Doom2 will always have a special place in my heart. But Wolf3d started it all, and I went from that to Doom to Quake to Duke3d to UT99 to Call of Duty 2. Playing UT99 for a long time I always found that one to have some great competition and have a pretty high skill ceiling. Granted I was never one of the best, but these days my reflexes are a little slower so I can’t keep up with the twitch reflexes of some people online. There are people who have been playing that since it came out and can pull of some insane execution.

Man y’all should see the April Fools DevPack they got up on Quake Live this weekend.

Oh my lord you will be experiencing some fun-yet-frustrating bullshit I tell you.
