What do you guys consider the #1 fps game?
I’m thinking it may be along the lines of Quake or CS, or even Unreal.
Anyways, what communities do you guys go to for these games? I know gotfrag is one of them but it seems lacking…

Wise fwom your gwave! UT04 is the best competitive FPS imo, as far a single player goes probably System Shock 2.
So Bioshock Infinite might be a day1 buy for even my cheapass. Crysis 3…I’ll wait till it’s $30. Looking back on this thread I can’t fucking believe I ever agreed with the guy who said Bioshock is overrated or that UT3 is anywhere near as good as UT04:wtf:
I am just going to drop a little bit of love for Painkiller in here. It had all the monster murdering sensibilities of something more like DOOM (without the hordes of Serious Sam) with the speed and movement goodness of Quake. Painkiller weapons are still in a class of their own in my opinion. Sadly, the games that followed after aren’t worth the effort it is taking me to type this sentence. The original still looks swell, works wonderfully, and can be found fairly easy on just about any digital distribution service (Steam, GOG, etc…). With any luck the “HD” remake will be good.
UT3 was fun, I still enjoy it on the PS3. Do people even play 2K4 anymore? Been thinking of giving Quake Arena Arcade a rest and revisit this game.
Alsom CS:GO is awesome but holy fuck is it hard, I can’t kill people for shit and I die more than anyone other than Ripley in an Alien movie. I think I picked a bad time to decide to get clan-level at CS, I haven’t played seriously since 1.5 was new.
favorite fps- TF2 i can play and play this game and never get tired of it
first- mm you could say the jurassic park game for snes. but the first real real fps was wolfenstein
love- tf 2
hate- i dont hate cod but i hate most of the community
wish-counter strike
shogo was the only fps i liked until my friend got me to play half life.
still my favorite though
More often than not quality games take the good parts of other games and fuse them together to form something that feels both unique and familiar. I never said Prey2 looked groundbreaking only that it looks more fun to play then most games from this generation which is saying a lot. Also I’m in love with the art style, it has the absolute perfect color palette for me, looks to have borrowed heavily from Mass Effect 2. I love games that emphasize player choice be it story or game play related but technology hasn’t advanced to the point to be able to make plausible game universes that feel like living, breathing, entities independent of the gamer a common find There are only so many Mass Effect tier sandbox games around. Prey 2 however, looks like it has a rich universe for the player to tear into like a kid in a candy store.
The gadgets, the bounty hunter open world mission layout, the chases, the platforming, and everything else combined make this look so fucking fun. I guess I’ll have to buy Far Cry 3 to satisfy my sandbox craving until this gets released. Did anyone here like Far Cry 2? I only played some of it but it wasn’t as much fun as I thought it would be. I really like the fact that it tried to be different and was more of an old school adventure game than a traditional FPS but the survival mechanics didn’t gel with the stealth and gun play IMO.

That teleporting bounty chase sequence is pure gaming bliss:love:
This should also be a third person shooter thread too as I want to talk about The Club and Bulletstorm and their similar score driven gameplay and why it’s not successful in this day and age.
Cool. I’ve always liked TPS more then FPS games (Gears, UT, Tribes). It’s sad that besides GoW TPS hasn’t had nearly as much success s FPS games.
^Now why do you like TPS more than FPS? I’m curious.
I like both equally myself. And I truly mean equally.
I honestly don’t think the success of one over the other is due to the perspective so much as a certain franchises happen to be FPS and did something that millions of people liked. If Halo and CoD were third person I imagine that they’d still be loved by all.
So does anyone own The Club and/or Bulletstorm? I really like the scoring system in The Club and it was sad to see games bite off of it while it slowly faded into gaming history. I think we could use a TPS that’s basically Anarchy Reigns but for guns.
I just like seeing my character better lol. Like RE4 to me would not be nearly as fun if it was an FPS. Dead Space and Mass Effect are easily my favorite 3D games ever and that’s due partially to the movement and point of view afforded by third person mode. Then again it’s been awhile since I’ve played a FPS so maybe I’ll reevaluate till I do.
I haven’t played The Club but read in Game Informer a few years back it was like a arcade game almost because the goal is speed which I thought was kind of interesting.
^Speed and fancy shots. Most stages just have you running a circuit around the map with enemy count and difficulty increasing.
Anyone play Planetside 2? Is it worth giving a shot?
man, i wanna play CS1.6 gungame… it’s too addictive for me to start back with it though

You bums need to get dat First Person Swordsman game Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.
It’s like those Battlefield games…but in Medieval times, so tons of melee and BLOOD EVERYWHERE. Brutal game is brutal and awesome!
When you get right down to it, it’s got the basics of fighting games stuffed right in.

That reminds me of RTCW. If you weren’t headshotting you were dieing.
The most interesting and fun looking FPS this generation is dead. Don’t be prideful Arkane, use Human Head’s build as the foundation!
