I don’t think Keits is a fair example because no one really likes him
I’d like you to give me one example out of keits lapse in judgement. Seriously. These events are not only rare, butt they are never taken seriously, by BOTH parties.
“This community is sexist!!” * Brings up 2 only examples.*
Now, with the shit talk. That is like trying to prevent fist fighting at a sporting event. This group probably was timed specifically for the OP to feel important, when all he really did was look at all of the “Popular dramas.” I doubt you guys have taken one step outside of your houses to see what the community is REALLY like. Yes there are assholes, but planet earth is filled with assholes. Making a group whining about small problems won’t do a thing. Supporting this group would do nothing, the only possible goal I see is policing over events, but i HIGHLY doubt this group will do much, if at all.
I’m going to neg every single female, smack talk every single player, and smash every stick into the fucking ground at EVO 2011
My point was to show that there actually is sexism/misogyny. There really are plenty of recorded examples and I don’t think the point is to go on a crusade to find them, just to say there is as my response to the statement “the community caters to women”. There’s also been several articles on the web about BurnYourBra’s case which is, you know, one of the first things mentioned in this thread.
For the bolded part, I’m assuming “you guys” are the people who are in favor of this thread’s concept. Yeah I’ve been to several communities and have been a part of them for a long time, and I travel to tournaments as much as I can. I think it’s worth at the very least voicing your opinion on where to draw the line in things like trash-talking.
someone is challenging the quo, and i have to think/listen/care about something that hurts other people!!! my privilege! it burns!!!
Ran brackets at my area’s last biggest tournament in a long while. Problem?
Oh, oh, I can do the trash-talking too! (Not that that’s actually what’s being discussed, but it’s relavant.)
I find it much more satisfying to fight my opponents without having to resort to low-blows, let alone trash-talking at all. But that’s just me. I don’t have to say anything except “Good game”, I’ll just fight my hardest.
Edit:
I’m done trying to explain.
If you do make shirts, Tryken, I’ll buy one and wear it to every event. I’ll FLAG, just as I’ve done before now.
I personally don’t care for trash talking either. Its annoying.
trash talking is a tool, that’s all it is. Sure it can be funny but any serious player will tell you that you if you trash talk properly, you can get in someones head and fuck with their game thus giving you an advantage. Sometimes it fucks with someone so bad that it starts affecting their game and they just don’t even try to play anymore because they’re worried about what you will say.
Its not a low blow or a dirty trick, its a tool that uses outside factors. Just like people listening to music to get hype, players listening for inputs since it increases reaction time, trying to get the crowd behind you, fuck I’ve even sat slightly behind people during mvc2 tournaments so I could see whether or not someone was switch glitching for the opener.
People do the dumbest shit to try to create an advantage and some people think a little trash talking is going overboard?
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU–
Low-blow:
Racial slurs
Sexist remarks
Talking about someone’s family
Etc etc
Yeah yeah, I know all about it being a tool. It’s a tool I don’t want, or need, to use to compete. Dare I say, I see it as a sign of mental weakness, in some cases? :3
This discussion has turn to be something worth looking into. I must say that both sides have made some note worthy points. Though I’ve been noticing a laspe between the arguments, many of the post I’ve read seem to help enforce the idea that the comunnity does suffer an inbalance of sort. The entitiy known as F.L.A.G plans to adress iit by displaying certain expression that promotes an idea that think the community is lacking. Theirs been an overwhemling amount of negativity towards the idea, with the opposing party putting alot of effort to dicourage it. The majority of their arguments are that it contributes nothing or it adress an issue that has no prevalence in the particular enviroment. If this is so, than I ask. why is so much effort is shown to discourage F.L.A.G presence or their ideas? Im left to assume that F.L.A.G and its ideas are indeed a threat of some sort.
Trifle melodramatics in response to. . . trifle melodramatics.
You never would have survived pre-SF4 Orlando.
That was then, this is now.
Why is it so hard to grasp? Times are changing.
I think we need to make a group that focuses on ensuring “thats mind games” fulfills on his promise.
I find it interesting that so many people insist on reveling in ignorance.

What’s even worse about is that actual racism in this community before SF4 was really damn low. How is that the top game being played in the states has, as its best player, a black guy, an asian guy and a hispanic guy? Sounds like the start of a joke. Its been thanks to streams that people are saying random shit and dropping N bombs all over the place. There is a couple of ways to get respect as a player: win money matches and win tournaments. If you took 200 bucks from Daigo or Wong in a first to 5, we definitely know you ain’t a bitch. If you won a major, you can be the shittiest person in the world, but nobody is going to say shit about your lack of skills. That’s just the way this place rolls and has grown to roll.
All that aside, 99% of the bitching that happens in the community occurs because the people that jumped in 09 and up (shit, some of the 08 people are dumb as all tarts too), had no idea what the fuck is it they were signing for when they entered the community. Even some of the cats that talk all that shit about visiting SRK for a long time before they joined act like headless chickens about the way this forum rolls. There should’ve been a primer about how the culture operates in SRK, how it differs at tournaments, and a special note when you opened an account here that states “We held it down long before you thought of going to tournaments, have some damn respect.”
Lets talk about BurnyaBra and lets talk about Marn. See Marn gets heckled, and has been heckled for the longest time. She wants to talk about being called a black bitch? Lets talk about the fact that Marn has to go out of his way to say that he is on a diet for getting shat on constantly. Everybody, everybody, EVERY FUCKING BODY IN THIS COMMUNITY HAS BEEN SHAT ON AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. Fucking EVERYBODY. From what I know, few to no top player has gone unscathed in the community. Just because you get special gender specific insults does not mean that you are being treated any differently.
That being said: 1) SRK yellow fever has been well documented in all parts of the website, stop tripping because she plays fighting games and says kawaii at random, 2) Kayane’s Chun-li ain’t that great and the chick ain’t the cutest thing on the planet, 3) People stepping up thinking that they can get away with being racists to BurnyaBra need check themselves with their bitch ass behavior. Many communities speak in ways that make absolutely no sense with the way act. Using Ricky O and Filipino Champ as examples, you’d think that SRK would somehow stop using “no homo” or stop saying “gay” and any of that other shit but it hasn’t. Not only that but both of them are well respected as players and liked or dislikes because of the way they are. This are some things that either need to be accepted or moved on. Similarly niggas hating on BurnyaBra apparently haven’t paid good attention to the streams: we have some ugly looking motherfuckers in this community. If you ain’t gonna talk to somebody because they are ugly, then you better leave Arturo the fuck alone and call out NerdJosh on looking like a skinny Tiny Tim.
I’m gonna have to high jack Wake Up, SRK or write a long ass post about all the random nonsense that goes on in this community.
You may have typed this to be cute or something, but this is the most important thing you typed. It really is. You think that everyone agrees with you and that your way is the way it should be. Obviously it is not, but you can’t get that through your head and then you devolve further and further as the thread progresses.
First off, you are imposing your morality on others. You think that people should act a certain way, and that the rules should back you up. You probably don’t even have an admirable moral code, but you think that this is an opportunity to impose a set of rules on others and I guess that appeals to you for some reason.
Then the fun starts. You love telling people that they should stop “acting hard” or “redneck” or “thug” or whatever stupid terms you use. Then you drop more and more hints that you are some kinda badass, because you got arrested and lived in a tough neighborhood. You are not. Yeah I am calling you out. You are not tough. Unless you have a secret history and are an ex navy seal or ninja or batman then I stand by my judgment. Are you trying to intimidate the people here into listening to you?
Right now your time line is: think you speak for a community that doesn’t know you -> argue that your moral vision should be mandatory -> get angry at the behavior of others -> mention your own bad behavior in an effort to intimidate people into agreeing with you
I don’t even disagree with the idea of the thread. I am polite to people, because I want to be. It is my choice. It does not deserve praise or scorn. There is nothing wrong with being polite. I don’t even have an issue with a group of people who want to be polite. Fine that’s all on you. If you want to claim some kind of moral high ground or mandate the behavior of others, kindly go fuck off.
Oh and tourney organizers can do whatever they want. If they want to make a rule about anything, well that’s up to them. It’s their event and you either play by the rules or get out. If you want to mandate behavior, then throw your own event and see how many players show up.
This thread is dumb, this guys obviously lives or has never been to a real arcade. Try and go to Regency Arcade, Alex’s Arcade, Family Fun Arcade to teach this shit and nobody will talk to you ever again.
Now go online and hear the type of shit that people say on XboxLive or PSN, now they say some real nasty and racist shit at times but who cares that’s what competitive scene is like. I grew up in Downtown LA and after school I would stay to play some b-ball in the play ground and believe me the type of shit that was said there was nasty too (specially since I’m Mexican), but then again we are competing against each and I want to prove that I’m better than you I’m going to say whatever it’s necessary to get in your head and improve my chances of winning.
Being a “Gentleman” in a competitive community wont take you far.
This FLAG shit has got to be the most retarded idea I’ve seen in the last few years, we all know that 09+ are soft but this takes it to a whole new level.
Wow. How can an article about doing the right thing get so many horrid messages? It always surprises me that a community founded by SFII-loving players who wanted to break-through into pop-culture relevancy be over-run with offensive, 3S fan-boys who condone a small-scene that approves of verbal and physical violence?
*Cue the next comment to call me an asshole and a ***.
Because the person who is suggesting this is missing the point on everything. What happened to BurnyaBra is not some type of isolated incident, its a combination of a variety of things: shit talking that already went on, her lack of knowledge of fighting game culture, yellow fever and some assholes that are obviously stepping over the line.
The problem with tis thread is that it wants to deal with a bunch of asholes by imposing a hammer on the rest of the community. If you want to be part of this community, you have to, HAVE to have a thick skin. Is she going to get clowned on for being female? Yeah, Sanford has gotten clowned for his big lip and Wong for asian hack skills. Most of us don’t need to get hammered over a few nails.
