He types that everytime, I’m not sure why he does but it isn’t exclusive to that post just so you know.
Being politically correct has ruined the WWE. I will not allow it to ruin the FGC.
Agree. To a point.
I agree. We are our own paparzzi. But don’t you cringe when someone says some off-the-cuff racist shit on a stream? I mean, shouldn’t the smack talking be clever and not obvious? The obvious stuff sounds dumb and childish and embarrassing. People smack talk on Halo but if you watch an MLG game, it’s like football. And frankly, when I watch a stream I want to learn more about the game then just what the commenter is eating and that ‘we got some pussy in the house’. Agreed?
I wasn’t aware you can ruin trash.
Eh. You might be a little late. It wasn’t PC that killed it, though.
Edit:
I’ll try to reframe this then, since everything seems to go back to just internal matters within the community. We really aren’t in a vacuum, outside influences can, and do, affect us.
Think of the bigger picture, guys. Times have changed. Development and sales have picked up! We have more new players, and access to tech that we didn’t have before. It’s certainly a good time to be a Fighting Game Player. But we’re not THAT big, and somewhat unstable, at that. But we’re getting exposure.
Any bad press hurts the community as a whole, and as more of it accumulates, so do the chances of assholes like Jack Thompson being able to come in and fuck with us in a meaningful way. Don’t give them ammo.
Does he? Damn. I didn’t notice him do it on the other posts in this thread, so I thought he was making a statement. I haven’t encountered this idiot before, so I wasn’t aware that it was just a signature that he adds to his posts.
Wait a second are you saying that sexually/racially/gender motivated smack talk are simply “just” smack talk? Because honestly it feels like you feel if there was a rule that said “don’t call a girl a slut during a match or a gay guy a cocksucker or say a muslim guy’s mother is a swine” that it would just be the elimination of all smack talk. I still can’t tell if you’re just too dumb to handle the issue or literally think bigoted speech is your right via smack talk. I mean if you really think you have a right to make a racial or sexual comment during a match then own up to it, after all that would be the masculine thing to do.
EDIT: also the long well thought out responses to 4xl_master, what the fuck is wrong with you?
Fuck dude are you an egotist. Someone makes a facebook group to find people with common interest and you play it up like there are already 10,000 members who are passing around petitions at EVO. Try to put a little of that competitive spirit into your posts and maybe you won’t come off looking so full of shit.
anyone who thinks that using, race, religion, sexist remarks or any other form of bigotry is trash talking, then you guys obviously don’t know what trash talking is. If you used the shit ever in public, more than once, you’ll realize there are invisible lines that you can’t cross and if you do cross them, its basically inviting a fight. IMO if you step over the line, you deserve an ass beating and if you guys ever used it properly, you would understand it. I can see that hold dat understands what trash talking is while some of you guys have no clue.
Since trash talking is a tool, its possible to use the tool in a way it wasn’t designed to. Trash talking isn’t there to start fights or to allow a place for racism\bigotry, its there to gain a mental advantage that’s all.
Some people don’t like it even though its done properly and those people are pretty weak minded. If what someone is saying is influencing you so much, put on fucking head phones.
Its the USA, freedom of speech is there for a reason and I find it funny that people are soooooo against trash talking but don’t have the balls to challenge the KKK on their hate speech. Because we all know that telling someone they fucking suck @ fighting game is 100x more hurtful than saying we’re here to kill all the gooks, N words and jews.
Disagree. This isn’t completely true. Remember that one video of Filipino Champ talking about Tokido? That didn’t have any impact at all but that’s just one example. If some random ‘videogame journalist’ posts a blog online about how much they believe the fighting game community is terrible and unwelcoming, will tournament organizers suffer? Will top players suffer? Will the people that put in effort to get better suffer? Never. This has never been the case. Tournament organizers will still run tournaments and people will continue to be good/bad at games. Justin Wong isn’t going to stop playing just because someone said something he didn’t like. So ultimately… who gives a shit?
What does it even matter? The irony of this thread is that it’s an open discussion about the integrity of the fighting game community but most of the posts in here are people that don’t even go to tournaments. No offense, but something like that should be left to the people that actually know what they’re talking about. If the people in this thread care so much about the community, why don’t they actually do something meaningful and host a tournament rather than preaching with their ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude. The wannabe Marvel players in this thread aren’t really any better, but I sympathize with them because at least they can at least accept reality.
holdup, are you telling me the the purpose of this group was to set barriers on trash talking that were set a long time ago? WHAAT???
If these rules are already enforced at tournaments, then what exactly will this thread do?
Nothing, that’s what.
