Pick the most poorly thought out post in the entire thread to reply to, respond to nothing else, conclude everyone is too soft. n_n okay
I really don’t disagree with you, on the controller thing it’s their property. However you have to realize the more thrown/smashed controllers you have when people lose the more the entire FGC looks like a haven for mentally unstable man children, right? Expecting people to meet some minimum standards isn’t insane and being able control your emotions and act like an adult isn’t a sign of weakness.
And it’s up to the venue to decide if they want to implement a rule against acting like a toddler. I understand getting pissed and smashing shit. Though it’s not generally acceptable public behavior, except for maybe at fighting game tournaments.
EDIT: day in the life of a fighting game fan
This guy got what I was going for.
I aspire to be the John McEnroe of the Fighting Game Community.
If I walk into a place, and see 99% of the people in there acting like normal human beings, and one person acting like a fool, throwing shit around, whatever my initial thought isn’t, “Wow, these people are horrible,” it’s “That guy is a fucking idiot.”
This is a normal reaction and this is what’s happening. We are not defined by the angry, aggressive, stick throwers. You guys seem to think that people do, which is entirely untrue. Sure, people may jump to conclusions if they’ve only set eyes on that video, but if they’re not willing to step onto a tournament scene and watch hundreds of people from across the country compete with respect and keep their assumption?
Fuck them. We’re a passionate community in many different ways, it won’t change.
wtf is wrong with you people!!!
watching someone have a tournament melt down is fucking funny. It doesn’t hurt anyone but the person smashing their own shit which he has every right to.
Really? Will you guys carry around a flag with your emblem on it to tourneys you go to too? “It’ll be the FLAG flag! chuckles”
this is why i miss arcades in the U.S. I never went there expecting to make friends, i went to play and try my best to win. As a kid I always got my ass handed to me by the college kids but i made sure they didnt take me lightly after calling me “easy as hell”, “weak”, or just a laughing stock when my turn was up. I ended up leaving broke as hell most of the time, but made sure I wasnt a joke to them, and in time I was accepted more as a decent player for my age back then (i was 10/11). To me it was a hell of a grind just trying to hang and i got upset/angry, but i kept coming back and i think it was a good learning experience. i was mainly playing alpha 2 but also played sf3/tekken3/xvsf.
ppl really are too soft these days, and wanting to be butt-buddies. I understand being respectful to one another to an extent, but this scene was never (at least in my eyes) the nicest or most welcoming community, You have to first help yourself before begging for advice on how to “get good” in mere weeks (though im sure some can do this, lol) or take action on shit talking.
after reading this, i think youre just somewhat “new” to the scene if you have that sort of mentality. anyways, good luck (sincerely) with your group of super friends.
Again I really don’t agree with most of the main post beyond sexual, gender, and racial “smack talk”. However I’m kind of trying to play devils advocate for it just because of how completely it was dismissed. I think having a little more thought put into conduct wouldn’t be as dismal or cloistering as you seem to suggest.
I don’t go to tournaments to hold hands…
everyones a pussy bitch in the year 2011
Yeah, I’ll definitely agree on trash talking being a part of tournaments and even serving a useful purpose from time to time. You got a problem with that, gtfo, no problem there.
The attitudes I’ve seen in this community regarding issues like gender and sexuality go beyond that, though, and I see that as the real heart of the matter here. Anyone remember when people here used to tell Guilty Gear players “Stop Gettin’ Chopped”? Even if it’s not as commonly seen now, the idea of using the presence of transpeople as an insult to a community should be troubling to anyone with a sense of decency…that’s just the tip of the iceberg, too.
I thought “Stop Gettin’ Chopped” was a term of endearment to encourage people to leave their genitals as they are rather than getting irreversible surgery they may very likely be unhappy with.
Nope, just you. Free your mind man, have a beer, stop typing so much.
me neither.
but i also don’t wanna go to some venue only to find myself 3 hours later having to taze someone because they wanna throw a spazztic ‘foaming at da mouth’ fit either.
i don’t wanna spend money, travel, and go through efforts just to find myself getting into ‘problems’ or ‘trouble’ with knuckleheads at the tourney who don’t know how to act.
i really don’t wanna find myself leaving the venue in handcuffs cuz someone had a spazztic fit around me and i had to drop them.
thats all i’m saying.
i’m not getting placed in handcuffs(again) and getting incarcerated(again) cuz someone wants to act like a 13 year old jack-ass, when hes actually 25.
niggas gotta know how to act at social gatherings…cuz if not, i’m staying home.
i don’t need your diva drama in my life.
keep your diva-tude, to yourself.
keep shit composed and cordial. thats all i ask.
just sayin’
edit: i like how everybody is posin’ hard on this thread.
Fantastic.
Yeah who needs a standard of behavior when we all hate trannies?
I appreciate the invitation to come down to your level of soft forum posts, but I’ll politely decline.
I totally saw this coming once the PowerUp topic was locked. Call me Sirlin cause I’ve got yomi yo
its sad to see how the FGD seems to be the nest for godawful threads these days :shake:
Who hates trannies? Most men looking for a relationship with a transgender would rather they keep their genitals as they are. Similar sex organs is part of the attraction. Part of the reason for this is because it’s much more easily recognizable when your partner is both aroused and/or satisfied.
Getting surgery to have to genitals transformed into some sort of simulacrum of the opposite sex’s is not the answer people. Stop Gettin’ Chopped.
haha yeah okay. I guess “what do you do when you wake up in the middle of the night and see your tv floating away” is home safety advice and “I don’t trust anything that bleeds for 8 days and doesn’t die” is an advertisement for Lybrel.
