Interesting Dilemma Discussion:
The Tournament is announced to use 360 as the platform
Player A is a pad player and wants to play on the PS3.
Player B is a stick player and only has a 360 Arcade Stick and wants to play on the 360.
The Tournament has both 360 and PS3 setups.
Who should get first rights?
I ran into this problem with Dennis, luckily for Dennis I went and got a PS3 stick from a friend so he could use his Playstation D-Pad Skills on me and we were both so far along in the brackets it didn’t matter because not every station was full. However if Dennis had to play pad on 360, he woulda complained the whole time like a girl.

Correction, tournament ORIGINALLY announced for PS3. Then Floe changed it to 360 1 week before the tournament. Even though Evo North and Evo worlds are both PS3 and most chicagoians want it on PS3.
So you have a bunch of PS3 pad and stick players that felt screwed by the GS tournament and came here to vindicate themselves since it was going to be on PS3. But low and behold when they got there it was on 360 and thus screwed had it not been for a couple individuals who brought systems. that is not considering if a PS3 player has to fight a 360 player then one of them is screwed either way.
Next time is apparently 360 again but for everything.
That was the original problem, man. All you peeps were voting for ps3 and who ends up brining them? Fucking hardcore mario and the megaman dude (very chill guy btw) who found out about the tournament a couple days before it happened.
Ari had no way of running this tournament on PS3 because NOBODY WAS BRINGING THEM. I don’t see how that’s his fault in any way. Over 30 people voted for PS3 and 2 people randomly show up with them? That’s by no means enough to base a tourney off of. Ari did the reliable thing and went with what system he knew guaranteed people showing up would bring. That solidified SF4. He notified people about this a week before hand so they had time to make adjustments, because nobody was providing systems.
You cannot run a tournament on PS3 if there are no PS3’s provided. He made the best call for the situation, and for him to be getting shit for that is pretty lame.
all he had to do was ask instead of assuming no one would bring it. had it stayed on ps3 I would have come and brought mine, I would have convinced dai to bring his. so thats two more.
So again, you assumed that people weren’t going to bring PS3s. But when you change it over to 360 then why should people bring PS3’s? There isn’t a need to bring PS3s if your going to run it on 360. Judging how many PS3s were brought witout there being a need for it and assuming that it’d be the same number had there actually be a need for PS3’s is moronic.
With one week to go, I think mario was the only one who had mentioned he could bring his. It’s not up to ari to pull teeth and try to get systems. You guys had to offer, and you didn’t. Don’t get pissed at him for something you could have changed. There was plenty of time and a huge window of opportunity. Nobody stepped to the plate.

what jim said is correct i had 3 360’s locked in with plenty of other people offering to bring them after the fact…in the ORIGINAL post it said “if you can help with systems LET ME KNOW” people voted for ps3 and NO ONE offered to bring one…im not a mind reader…i dont have powers to know that you guys WANTED to bring one…i made the safe choice to insure the tourny would actually happen and it did…and for people who didnt even show up to the tourny to be complaining about it is a total slap in the face…if you didnt come to the tourny please dont clutter up this thread with your pointless whining
Me, mike, and mario did volunteer systems at some point, but on the other hand no one else really said anything… which is a damn shame.

it really doesnt take as long to transition as most people think as long as you are consistant with it. Just force yourself to do it for a while. Youll take some losses in casuals as you are transitioning but if you just mess around in training mode a bit in your free time and get used to it, it shouldnt take more than like 2 weeks to get near where you are with pad.
i honestly havent been practicing, or playing regularly with gg. when i do get gg in, it usually doesnt last too long since everyone turns to SF4.
i admit on saturday, i think u probably would have beaten my sol, but i don’t think it would be free. on another day, it would be different. i usually do a lot better against you. “FREE” is much.
we ll have to play again some time. all in good fun.
not happy with how i played against eric, not remotely. not going to say much more on my opinion in how things went down. there is a fine line between an excuse and a reason, but i still say good games to eric, and his win was well deserved.

Yes you aren’t a mind reader which is why as a tournament director you need to speak up if you can’t supply the hardware neccessary to hold a tournament. If you need more PS3s then just ask. I’ve donated my PS2/PS3 to every tournament that I’ve been to for the last 6 years. I’ve brought those ST, A2 and A3 broughts that you guys have been using at MWC/Evo North the last three years (my brother before that). Brought the cab to FF. I really have no problem bringing shit if he needs to be brought. Heck if my brothers alright with it I could bring his 3s board to the next bi-weekly. So we’d have another arcade setup for 3s (though console would definitely be easier). All you gotta do is ask if it becomes neccessary.
If you or Amar want you can commission me to make some stick stands kinda like what I made for DreamTR’s arcade. All I’d need is the parts, time and money (parts on backorder thanks to the TE sticks though). Definitely not something for the next month but by May I should be able to bust a few out in time for MWC.
You offered because you got it in your head that no one would donate and also insulted those that thought about it at the same time. Good for you. Now I don’t know how many set ups you guys ending up having. But 4 PS3 to 3 360’s seems to be in the PS3s favor. Had of course you stuck with PS3 that is.
But its Ari’s tournament and the next one is on 360 so no point in complaining about that. Unless he changes his mind with a few days to go again. Good luck on it if I don’t go and congrats on the winners.

Late reply. General stuff: Good stuff to everyone I played in GG, was really close all around. I also suck terribly at SF4. Haven’t gotten the chance to play the new UIC crew either, so need to do that sometime.
More specifically, I haven’t been practicing my GG much either. I think the last time I actually played was at frosty faustings, so I was actually kind of surprised I did so well. Dropped a lot of combos, did stupid things, and generally got too nervous as I’m prone to do in tourneys. I know I used to be more confident against sol and ky, but my reaction time and punishing just wasn’t up to par. If it’s at any gatherings though I’d be glad to get some more games in.

go and re-read the old thread. I offered my 360 up for ari to use for this tournament before there was even a poll on which system sf4 would be played on. I didn’t “get it in my head” that nobody would donate, I’ve been involved with this scene for 10+ years now, and I KNEW the donations would be low. I was even prepared to play on ps3 once it was announced on that system so I don’t understand what the problem is.
if you call 30 people who vote for a system and not 1 decides to donate insulting them, yeah, I did that. because everyone that clicked that button and didn’t vouch to donate decided to take a shit on the scene, literally. ari made it very clear in his original post that systems were needed and to let him know. people didn’t. that’s really the end of it and why the decision was made. he had no systems vs 3 locked systems. very, very easy decision for a tournament director trying to ensure his event happened. any other past nickels tourney director would have made the same exact decision 1,000 times over.
I think it’s kind of funny (in my own way). I clicked the PS3 option, mainly because I have a stick for the PS3, which would mean I wouldn’t have to borrow from anyone. YET, once 360 was announced, I offered my system as a possibility (in retrospect, I don’t know why I didn’t go to my car and grab it at some point. I’ll know better next time).
Wasn’t there a post on the SRK homepage a while back, saying something along the lines of “be prepared for BOTH systems” when SF4 was coming out? That’s what I, and I’m sure others, have tried to do, and unless you’re a pad warrior (cuz 360 pads are fail), then why not invest in a nice stick for your system, and a working stick for the other? Just throwing it out there.
