Apparently…yes, but WI came down too.

But more than 1/2 of the SFIV entries were “first timers” [to tournament play], and there were HELLA LONG wait times b/w people’s matches… so most of’em left by the later rounds (to the point where we were able to cut 1/2 the bracket 'cuz of DQ’s).

A couple minor setbacks aside, and w/ the limited resources we had, it ran pretty well (took 'bout 7 hrs).

March 21st Bi-Weekly Tournys return to Chicago! (Nickel city)

To the organizers’ credit, no one was expecting such large turnouts for all the games, especially HDR and SF4, which had over 60 entrants if I recall. There weren’t enough setups for all the games to run quick and efficiently.

However, there were too many times to count in which one or more setups for SF4 and HDR were completely idle. At one point, all (two) setups for HDR were idle and some guy was viewing the artwork gallery on the SF4 big screen setup next to them. Seriously, wtf. This idling problem did not happen with Guilty Gear because Capps would hand the brackets over to someone else to call the next matches when he was up in another game, and Riot.EXE who was running TvC didn’t have any other obligations.

The setups for HDR and SF4 needed to be running tournament matches at all times, especially in situations like these where the equipment is short for the magnitude of the event. Again, no one saw this coming, and I am offering now to lend my help in running future ranbats to help ensure a faster and more efficient event. Yes, that means I will forego competing in all tournaments entirely just to run the brackets full time.

These tournaments can be a great thing for our scene, and I want them to be as successful as much as anyone. This first one, however, left a sour first impression.

Oh, and GG’s to everyone I played. Especially the UIUC (Yosh, Jerry, James) guys who I seemed to play in EVERY FREAKING GAME.

These are BI-WEEKLYS and console games with be rotated between STHDR,TVC, and GGXXAC…except the first week

i was re-thinking this and in the end i think you are right about ah2, turnout, interest, etc. in spite of that, i would still like to run it at one biweekly, just so people can see what the game is about and promote the game since getting released in 2-3 weeks (apr 9) (for jp ps2). the next biweekly after that coincides with the arcade ufo tourney, so im thinking the may 2 biweekly would be good to run this. and, of course, id make sure that it wouldnt add any hassle to you or the other tourneys.
