FGs You Dislike...but Why?

You do realize that Harada has confirmed that they’re using the same sound data for Bryan that they’ve used since 3 right?
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/i152f8

Then the guy must have a cold or something, because that does not sound like the Bryan I knew back then… That’s such a drastic change in character. His new voice sounds silly. But still, COULD BE WORSE…

(Tekken Tag 2 is looking sweet though. I’m getting it just for the huge roster alone, lol)

I don’t think that tekken sucks, its a good game that has a solid fanbase, I just think its not for me.

You’re talking to a guy who plays MVC and Blazblue, some of the fastest fighters around. Yeah, Tekken noticeably slower than some fighters out there, and it is certainly not for eveyone. I play Tekken, but nowhere near as much as I used to. It holds a special place in my heart for sure though, and I respect your opinion on it.
But, that doesn’t mean it has its disadvantages. I practically listed them all.

EDIT: And sometimes I like the pace to Tekken, because since it is slower, it gives both players time to use strategy and planning instead of just lucking out, and also gives really intense defensive play. But at the same time, it’s not as slow as some other FG’s I’ve played, so it has a nice mix to it.

I don’t hate games with a specific throw input, but I really prefer direction + single button, like ST.

I like inputs when they keep it simple. Anything that requires over 10 buttons to do one grapple/powerful move or something is just ridiculous…
And I don’t recall a fighting with input+direction specific commands in it. What does ST stand for? It might be obvious, but I don’t recall anything with the initials.

Sorry…edited my post, it was meant for throws.

St is super street fighter II Turbo

Which is another fine game, personal old-school fave of mine.
That game was a legend when I was growing up, and it still is.

Didn’t like CvS2 when it came out… still don’t like it to this day for some reason. Hard to say but the pacing feels off for me.
Don’t like the soul cal games (except for 3)

pretty much about it.
Love 3s. bring on the hate.

I hate MvC2, because that game was so damn fun that I thought there could be other games that had a fun factor of the same level. Boy was I wrong. Such a tease.

But seriously, one game I really hate though is TvC. Mega Crash was the stupidest mechanic ever put into a fighting game it makes XFactor look ingenious!

Mega Crashes are basically GG/BB Bursts, except they cost 2 meters and whatever red life you had remaining. Given the way they worked, they could also be baited, adding another layer of mindgames to TvC. X-Factor is just a low-risk high-reward panic button.

I didn’t like Marvel vs Capcom 2, though not for gameplay-related reasons.
I mean, the game did, competitively, have only about 10 or so viable characters, but as has been previously discussed (somewhere), the game was balanced in the sense that it catered to many different playstyles, and each one was equally viable. That and without taking into account those 10 or so S-tier characters, the game is supposedly pretty balanced. I loved playing as Jill.
The reason I didn’t like it was because I got into fighting games way too late (I didn’t play competitively until SSF4 came out), so I felt that by the time I had discovered MvC2, the window of entry for me had closed.
I suppose that isn’t really the game’s fault, but that’s what I think, anyway. I do respect the game a lot more than MvC3, though.

That is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY wrong

Whoops, sorry. The main point is that I feel Mega Crash was a better mechanic than X-Factor, though.

That fact alone that Mega Crashes were powered by meter makes it quite different from GG/P4 style bursts.

3rd Strike.

Parrying.

Yeah, MvC2 always struck me as a total broken joke which gave you sore eyes, but then all the Vs games had serious issues with infinites and high tier flying characters. Japan never took these games seriously (well, apart from making and selling them), and that’s good enough for me.

Yeah bursts you can combo off are the best mechanic, very well designed.

They are like fucking gold bursts the entire time. Doubt people that say shit like that have actually played BB/GG. Hell, even TvC.

Fuck Megacrash. TVC was a game designed not to waste your meter on anything other than megacrash. It gave you red life to Baroque into a kill combo. In theory, it’s a more stupid version of X-factor cause you can activate it while getting hit and combo into it for the kill.

Only thing good about TVC are the giants (fuck the haters).

FG I dislike:

Tekken 5 - this game defined the series today, and I hate modern Tekken. I’ll stick with the blocky character models and gdlk soundtrack.
MVC3 - It had similar physics to TVC, with characters juggling clean off ABC. That wouldn’t happen in 2D vs games where characters are knocked upward or back. I hate how combos go from stupid easy to hella strict. It limits the combo potential of some characters (Hsien-Ko, Strider, Spider-man) while others don’t seem to mind it (Dante, Doom, Spencer, Zero).
SF4 - Too many nerfs, throwback Alpha characters look dumb compared to there 2D counterparts (Cody’s backwalk looks stupid in this game), and wonky hitboxes.
BB - too slow-paced for an air-combo fighter.

I’m sorry, but Mega Crash in TvC basically said you can be a weaker player in a fight, make a mistake, and punish your opponent for making correct reads on you! While XFactor can yes, be a panic button, if you got hit by level 3 XFactor Wesker for example, there was a reason you got hit. Wither you don’t know how to deal with that situation, or you got read wrong, you got hit, which is the bottom line.

In TvC, getting hit can not only mean jack shit for the player that landed the hit, but it can mean a match is practically unwinnable because your opponent has meter, regardless if you land a hit or not. And this isn’t theory, this happens twice in one game at the 1:00 and 3:20 marks.
