FGs You Dislike...but Why?

MvC3 because of all the scrubby bullshit

SF4 because it sucks dick

SF4 still sucks though.

They could’ve done anything with it and it would’ve sold based on the name alone. That includes making it a good game that doesn’t look like ass.

But then again we’re talking about a company that’s lost most of its big stars and completely ruined it’s reputation because of corporate meddling and deflected those shots to good folks like Seth Killian, Sven, and Ono.

All signs seem to point to incompetent, apathetic business suits.

I hate Tekken, only tekken 6 but I loved all its predecessors

for some reason, they ruined that game by the bound system

I think the main reason I dont like 4 is it seems totally devoid of any personality or “soul.” It’s an ugly, slow moving game and all the characters I’ve loved since 2 are a shadow of their former selves because of all the nerfs. There are other problems, like comeback mechanics, but I think this is the main reason: it just doesn’t feel like the Street Fighter we know and love.

Can’t bring myself to like Virtua Fighter much, and I’ve actually tried. The thing I don’t like about it is that nearly all the characters lack any real personality, and haven’t changed much over time. The next thing I don’t like is the pace, the movement is slow, but the actual hits are faster than shit. Weird combination… I do like that fact your fighter represents your actual skill and has his stats constantly upgraded the more you play, and it does add a sense of realism to the game. It is probably the most realistic fighter out there when it comes to the fighting styles of the characters.

Marvel vs Capcom 2. As much as I’ve had fun with this game, the balance really makes me not want to play it. ALL of my favorite fighters are totally underpowered. (Venom and Omega Red are good examples) and I feel it when I try playing as them. It cripples the experience for me. And some of the music I’m not a huge fan of, I wish they would have just stuck with character-specific themes…

Blazblue as a series (to an extent). Blazblue is one of my favorite as a series so far, and I’ve played it smart and waited for Extend to come out. I thoroughly enjoy the game’s mechanics, and the fighting gets really deep the more you play. It’s a little on the combo-friendly side, but the actual gameplay is a LOT ot fun. But the problems start at Continuum Shift, CSII, and Extend. This is why I’m glad I waited for Extend, [S]because from what I read, the DLC characters and other DLCs don’t carry-over from all of them, and instead of being separate discs, they should just be free downloadable patches[/S]. (This part is false, my bad guys. Take my word for it, I suck at this kind of stuff. It was indeed a free patch.) Extend does not have this problem, but something somewhat similar. Extend is basically a rebalanced Continuum Shift II with one extra character added to the mix, along with ALL the previous DLC on disc. Good value, but came too late. My other gripes about the actual game is that it utilizes invincibility frames a little too much. Another one about the gameplay, I hate how they just can’t nail the balance right on a few characters. They either make them too strong or too weak in each installment, or just don’t update them at all. But I will admit, Extend has modes galore, and the DLC characters now have their own story modes. Nice! The only thing that would make Extend even better is if they added the option to make your own colors for a character’s palette like the home version of KOF 98, because some of the palettes in this game do look awkward… and maybe upgrade some of the weaker characters like Makoto and Tsubaki, then the game would be perfect.

Soul Calibur 4. Slow as hell, and horrible voice acting gives me an instant headache. Some characters are also ridiculously cheap. Another gripe would be a few uninspired designs. Soul Calibur as a series used to be well-known for their creative designs on their characters, but this is where it all dropped. Ringouts also happen too frequently compared to other installments. Also, LIMITED MODES. Story mode literally only has 4-6 stages, and thats it, and the rest of the modes are pretty much non-existent due to being the same as the rest. I also despise the way the costume part have different effects, because in order to have a powerful fighter, you need to make him look like a comeplete dumbass, and if you make one that looks freakishly cool, he’ll most likely be VERY weak. (Tower of Lost Souls is also unreasonably difficult later on, and instead of using strategy, the game forces you to resort to cheap tactics to win, which is not fun.)

Tekken 6 to an extent. The new combo system is comeplete garbage and needs to go, it’s not that fun when a simple little launching jab turns into a deadly, 95+ damage combo. And some of the new fighters just suck outright. And customization COULD be better, but it’s still better than Tekken 5’s.

Mortal Kombat’s previous 3D forms. Deadly Alliance was actually okay, minus a few goofy fighters and one fatality per character. Then Deception tried to expand on things a bit. It brought more fatalities, as well as stage fatalities, but a LOT of fan favorite characters were missing, and the newer fighters were just uncreative. Some of the gameplay looked stupid, like breakers for example, and some even more wonky “dial-a-combos” were even more boring this time around. Now on to Armageddon… WEIRD looking aerial combat, all fighters feel exactly the same this time around, and actually REMOVED the fatalities we knew and loved. Voice acting got even worse, and the actual gameplay got really slow. Some stupid new modes as well, and downgraded Konquest mode. Also, a LOT of unnecessary/stupid characters didn’t help the game at all (like Meat, Mokap, Legless Motaro, etc…) I will be fair though, it was kind of cool to make your own fight style, and the customization was surprisingly deep, especially for the serie’s first real “Create-a-Fighter”.

Street Fighter IV. I’ve heard GREAT things about this game when it was first coming out. I bought, resold it, and never looked back. Nothing like the street fighter I knew when I was younger. The whole game just feels “slow”, and there are indeed some widely abused fighters online. I also dislike the game’s final boss, but I guess he does not matter much. Back on to actual gameplay, since I quit playing online, i will say that the AI in this game spams very frequently, and with very precise timing. This got me fed up with it and just went for a better game.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I don’t actually HATE this game that much, but I do dislike some of the additions to the roster, as some of the characters are crap, IMO. Also, the modes are LIMITED AS HELL, especially for an expansion. I remember first getting the game, expecting new modes, scrolled through the menu going in a circle, and was all like “…THAT’S IT?”. They could have added a lot more, but all it has is just bare-minimum. No survival mode, time attack, and real story mode, etc… Game isn’t really balanced all that well either for an expansion, as there are some teams that are just downright unstoppable.

King of Fighters 13. New art style looks awfully werid on some fighters, and the stages have a LOT of crap going on to distract you from the actual fight. I know the stages are not supposed to be boring, but they went overboard with it here. There’s also relatively few characters for a KOF game. The actual gameplay is nice though. (Boss is a little uncreative, and totally cheap also… But that’s SNK for ya, I’ll let that slide)

Dead or Alive as a series. Somewhat entertaining for awhile, and it does indeed have some cool, huge, detailed environments that both players can interact with, but aside from that, it strays far away from actual gameplay and steers more towards fanservice instead. Gameplay is a bit of a mixed bag as well.

Shaq-Fu. I have actually PLAYED this, and it is beyond words HORRIBLE in every way possible. Run for your life if you see it, or use it as a coaster. It is THAT bad.

Samurai Shodown Sen. I was expecting this game to be bad from the get-go, but it exceeded my expectations. Samurai Shodown was a game that relied on strategy and timing of attacks for someone to come out of a match victorious. But in Sen, the controls are awkward, the graphics are dark and seem dated, and the actual gameplay is clunky and has ridiculous-looking combos, much like MK:A. They changed the game too much, and pretty much killed off Samurai Shodown as a series. I don’t have very many good things to say about it besides the decent soundtrack and artwork. But it’s all downhill from there.

EDIT: Not really a dislike, but a point. I got around to playing Skullgirls, and out of all the hype I’ve heard and all the pressure I got from all my friends to buy it, it’s not really all THAT impressive… but it’s not a crappy game though. It’s just not anything I haven’t seen before. And only 8 characters? Pfffffffft… I bought Persona 4 Arena instead. And It’s not bad either.

I hate 3s for making me lose interest in every other fighting game, and I hate the other fighting games for not being 3s.

Whatever it is the stream monster collective tells me to hate since I’m too lazy to think and try the games for myself.

/sarcasm

Hating on anything smash related and calling it a party game is not only the truth but a fun past time. Watching and hearing people try to defend it is freakin hilarious.

The only relevant fighter I dislike is SFxT and only for the scummy business practices that shit all over the game.

That’s why I never bought that game. I heard the news on the disc-locked content, and turned away ASAP.

I’m going to get a lot of hate for this…
I never liked tekken, I never got around the slow gameplay and the juggle system.
the only 3d fighting game that I liked was SC2 on the gameqube (link ftw)

I went through this entire thread waiting for someone to actually dislike Tekken for something more general than graphics or bound and it took until the last post.

I really, truly can not stand Tekken 6. I had fun with training mode and even the crummy Tekken Force mode until the online got fixed and I actually had to play it and then just bleh. The super bloated move list full of silly auto-mixups and overlapping inputs with no cast wide rhyme or reason to inputs to justify using 4 buttons + 6 different combinations when there isn’t even a block button just drives me insane, the stiff, archaic, overcomplicated movement with absolutely glacial normal walking sends me up the wall, and the bizarre overlapping ukemi controls that seem to only want you to find options that get you killed are a nuisance.

Also mad ugly universal animations carried over from like Tekken 3. Even Sega fixed that stuff over the lifetime of VF5 to where it doesn’t even have moon jumping anymore.

Ahem…
Newbies who want to learn get respect. Newbies who quit and blame the game instead of themselves should be mocked. Hate the game all you want but at least give reasons that show some sort of understanding and experience…

What’s next? Saying Tekken is garbage because mashing with Eddy is too strong?

You say that as if I had any experience with anything remotely similar to VF other than Tekken when I first played it either. I don’t want to learn Tekken because I don’t think it’s a smartly designed game and I don’t think it’s quantifiably more fun than the smart game that is sitting right there and almost directly addresses every problem I have. Maybe if it was the only 3D martial arts fighter I would stick with it but as it stands it’s just annoyance for no reason.

People getting random’d out by some stupid string they’ve never seen before still happens in high level Tekken play so I can’t call that a day one only problem let alone having people mash some random mixup they don’t even know themselves good design.

Damn tataki, he doesn’t like the game, its simple. If he can’t enjoy the game on a basic level, why should he go deeper??

Should i write three page long essays on why I dislike a game by playing said game i disliked till I become a top player? Makes no sense man.

He gave concrete reasons too.

Movement too stiff for him
Combo list too bloated
Annoying ukemi options.

He didn’t even say it was bad, why are you getting so defensive?

Turtles Tournament Fighters for the NES. Game has absolutely no combos, you can’t hit someone when they’re dizzy and Hothead’s only “special move” is a simple splash attack, performed by simply jumping and hit down and punch.
No wait fuck it, I love that game! Best fighter on the NES, right after Blades of Steel.

He can like or dislike anything he wants, but he’ll get called out on it if his reasons are 1. false. 2. similar to other games which he does like, hence hypocritical.
What makes it worse is that he raises various claims while avoiding explaining what he means in detail. Read his comment and try to guess what he means in practical terms and how exactly it’s any different from other similar games, and even if you play the game you’ll have no idea.

For example, what the fuck is “bizarre overlapping ukemi controls”? You press left punch or left kick to tech left, and right punch or right kick to tech right. What’s overlapping what exactly? What’s so bizarre?

Tataki just shut up you don’t even play fighting games.

Anything that’s a month old. My ADD means that I can only play fighters that have come out this week.

I can make a list of things I hate about Tekken 6, but you already mention Scenario campaign. This mode ALONE has too many flaws to count, like…

  1. (biggest complaint) WHY CAN’T I CHOOSE MY PARTNER IN OFFLINE MODE!?
  2. Pretty boring overall.
  3. CHEEEEAP bosses and levels, like Nightmare Train.
  4. Enemies are too generic to even be called “generic”.
  5. Plenty of glitches to be found. (I froze the fricken game using Bryan’s minigun to mow down multiple baddies and the game couldn’t take it.)

Now on the actual game…

  1. THE FKING BOUND COMBOS!!! **They look stupid, slow the fight down, and are way too combo-friendly.
  2. The new characters are all stereotypes. And not good ones either. Not very creative, especially coming from Namco…
  3. Some character voices sound so half-assed now (Bryan’s old voice was way more badass than his new constipated one…)
  4. New gameplay mechanics hurt weaker/less combo reliant fighters.
  5. Customization is still kind of bland.
  6. Story turned to utter crap after Tekken 2 and 3. Tekken 6 seems to be more on the silly side of things…
  7. Some new designs are horrendous. (Yoshimitsu got screwed in this category, and I miss Bryan’s old Vest and Fatige combo. New generic blue pants suck IMO.)
  8. Need’s more wall-less levels, there’s not enough. (WHERE’S MOONLIT WILDERNESS!?)
  9. Final boss is cheap as hell, boring as hell, and has auto-guard BS protecting him, even while he’s attacking. We don’t need these kinds of bosses in Tekken. Jinpachi was bad enough, then Azazel happened… I miss the older bosses like Ogre and Devil. They were powerful, but not cheap.
  10. No minigames outside of scenario campaign. No Tekken Bowl, Tekken Ball, or the original Tekken Force mode.

Did I get everything?

Rock on dude. Soul Calibur II is a damn fine game.
