It also happens to be one of the finely crafted video games out there. Best soundtrack ever. The fact that its even arguably competitive is just icing on the cake.
Its the simplicity and competitiveness of Smash that made it so successful. if it had SF, KOF or even Tekken style move executions it would not have been accessible to so many people, and If Melee wasnât such a good game Brawl sales would have flopped.
I actually hope this is true, as far as the game coming out. Itâs on my want list, but it really needs to play like the recent VFs. Using DOA would just be going back in time. Which isnât bad, as the old VFs are still awesome, but even the 3D fighters(Iâd argue even 2D fighters) now are still behind VF in terms of gameplay.
But on the flipside to this, there are things that other fighters do that makes them, wellâŠthem which is cool. I like a lot of Tekkenâs features but the game as a whole is pretty ââŠehâŠâ for me.
Then why is it so successful even compared to other Nintendo games? If you can just throw a bunch of mascots into a shitty game and call it a day, explain the sales of SFxT.
Oranges and shit man, those 2 are not comparable at all, one is a game that has all the âbelovedâ mascots of many of the iconic games of nintendo. A game that the majority of nintendrones bought because they could use their favorite character to brawl against their friends and have good laughs. A game that was advertised by nintendo like if there was no future, a game that has a massive appeal to people with different gaming interests. A sequel that everyone was especting because nintendo only launches one per console. Smash is designed specifically to appeal to people interested on said characters that come from different franchises. But donât kid yourself that its appeal comes from the gameplay and simplicity, otherwise games with similar design would be getting good numbers as well. In the end is because the characters in the roster, like it or not no other company has characters which so much legacy like nintendo, and they capitalize that when making smash.
SFxT is a fighting game that puts the characters of 2 famous franchises against each other, and i am using famous on a broad sense, since we like it or not SF and Tekken are still part of a niche games genre.
It also had a huge backlash due a lot of controversial shit from almost day one. It had to deal with the skepticism of how it would the tekken characters would translate into 2d, the negative atmosphere that gamers in general and fightig games fans in particular had about capcom, it came after 3 revisions of SF4 and 2 of MVC3, lets not forget that UMVC3 was announced 3 months after MVC3 and came like 8 months after, so by that time fans were already fed up.
All the mechanics that everyone hated when announced like Gems, Pandora, etc. On disc DLC which is good chunk of the cast. A game that carried over many things that many people hated about of SF4, the inclussion of âquestionableâ character like pacman bad box megaman, cole, koro and toro, a graphics engine that by when it debuted it looked oudated already (there are people who care about this), a game that was mostly terrible and needed like 3 patches to become tolerable and finally, is a game that no one was asking for, i remember that the thing on everyoneâs mind was why?.
You think that the majority of the fanbase of Tekken jumped excited when they heard about SFxT? And i am not talking about FG players only, i am talking about the casuals that actually like tekken and donât care about going to tournaments. I wouldnât be surprised if part of them like Tekken because is 3d and seeing SFxT they see something that they donât like because is 2d.
The majority of the Tekken players in my community didnât bought it, the majority of the SF players neither, and this was also the same with the general public. If it sold around 1000 copies on my country i will be hugely surprised.
EDIT
BTW, Mario Cart Wii sold over 30 million copies, obviously is because it offers the best driving experienc :looney:
if youâre implying that realism somehow equates to a game with the best driving experience then youâre an idiot. Mario Kart is a fun and competitive game and thatâs all that matters.
YeahâŠ
Nope, even for go kart games standards is very subpar. As for competitive, anything can be competitive if there are people willing to play it that way, i have seen tournaments of mario party.
Iâd love to know what these other superior non-realistic karting games are.
Yes, a lot of people play Mario party because its simplistic and fun, if it wasnât people wouldnât play it⊠simple.
and what exactly are these game with similar designs to smash that should be just as successful?.. Smash originated its style of gameplay so Iâm sure these other games you speak of are complete rip-offs.
Itâd be better if it kept the speed and pace of VF as itâs a faster game. Not by a huge margin, but less stun/stagger the faster people can fire back on each other.
Dunno, I actually enjoy the more combo heavy gameplay of DOA. Especially the near TOD gameplay of tag mode. Reduce the amount of moves that invoke critical state and the game would be perfect.
To be fair itâs not the the only VF with high damage combos, but people act like it (especially the critics early on). Although if youâre trying to get your Tag on, yeah VF doesnât have that.
