On the flip side whenever a new VF dropped there was always bitching ( and there still is ) about the new version being “not real VF” at VFDC. The VF5 series (welll Vanilla and Final Showdown) have had the district “honor” of dealing with this shit TWICE. 5R is in the pantheon of GDLK VF, because it wasn’t released outside of Japan, despite having the flaws of VF5 Ver.B and C. Although the aesthetic of VF5R would have found more favor with the FGC.
Granted with anything else, it’s always vocal minority that’s pissed about whatever that raises the biggest tantrum. Just in a game like VF, it’s bigger because of the already small player base.
DOA5U’s arcade version will need to up the stakes and call itself “Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate Warrior Self Destruction Into Peoples Elbow, the Most Electrifiying Move in Fighting Entertainment Edition.”
Also, there’s still the issue that the default controller for a platform may be highly unsuited for the genre, making the barrier for entry even higher.
It looks so different than any other controller, and ofcourse the first thing that came to my mind was how will it work with fighting games.
Yes ofcourse there are still the arcae sticks but no everyone has those, undoubtedly the majority that play fighting games don’t use arcade sticks.
I can see complex motions actually being easier on such a controller though it depends how precise it is, the lack of actual feedback might hurt playing a fighting game with such a controller.
This controller looks made for precise First Person Shooters, but i imagine other games such as driving games work really well also. FG’s…maybe, who knows.
Probably be able to plug any USB device that works for PC into the steambox anyway, so your favorite controllers also?
The Steam pad is mainly for FPS. It might work on RTS and Dota-likes though. It’s trying to emulate the mouse and keyboard setup for pc games not be a fully functional pad.
How much/little time do you guys think is too early to start talking about character balance and possibly asking for changes for any fighting game?
For me at least, I think one month or even more is still too early. I’d say 3 to 6 months at least is needed for some semblance of meaningful balance discussion, maybe even more.
I think that 3 months is still to early since there are still stuff being discovered, unless is something that is clearly broken i think that a game shouldn’t be pached in more than 6 months, otherwise we end with stuff like MK9 or Injustice, where there is not really enough incentive in exploring complex stuff since it can end being patched away when the scrubs cry about it.
not so much for IGAU but for MK9 their was rteally only complaining for the truly busted stuff when it first came out that we all knew about. Mainly Kung Lao Infinites out the ass, Sonya Block Infinte, and Cyrax Reset that stuck around unfortunately. Things only got dumb when 1.3 happened and sbrubs all over not on TYM though bitched and complained about Jade, Sindel, and Kano so they got nerfed and Kabal got to slide past the radar. Game would eb totally different if that never happened due to them having tools to fight Kabal as he is now.
