FGD Lounge: for general fighting game discussions that aren't thread worthy

So, apparently, a company named Dragonfly is currently developing a new KOF game. But it’s not the kind of game we were expecting…

Wow… Now even SNK is jumping on the MOBA bandwagon… Just wow… :wtf:

Oh… And here is some gameplay footage:

This is more as a new trend of SNK, where they give the license of their characters to companies that have projects with them in mind, after all is the easiest way to make money for them.

After playing a lot of Divekick, this game is incredibly solid…disgustingly solid.

additionally, after much meditating, I find the lack of Soul Calibur Tag Tournament a fucking crime. Keep most of the stuff in SC5 there, fix the small step issue, let me play with 2 characters.

A new game based on MVC1 would be interesting. Selectable Assists with a limit on their use, two on two with Duo Team Attacks, but no infinites and no 50+hit combos and it’s balanced.

Its turn based!? I’ve lost interest already.

Yeah it just makes sense. Much bigger user base and much less work to produce. Not that MOBAs are inherently bad, but the players expect very little in terms of pre release balance and testing.

Asked in GD and thougt I’d ask here as well, since both places aren’t the same and I’d like some input, since I find reaction vs execution and interesting topic.

So here’s a question in general about execution vs reaction. Do you consider tap moves (forward+attack button) an execution barrier, in the same vein as roll motions (qcf, hcb, etc. etc.)? If not, what about multiple tap moves within a certain time frame.

Below is a vid, that has multiple tap moves in a succession within a certain time frame. I have my thoughts about this but wanted to hear what you all think. I saved the vid at the time I’m talkin about, but just in case I didn’t do it right, watch from 1:20 to 1:50, to see what I mean.

Curious to hear thoughts, since I seem to be in the minority.

All I know is that I feel bad that I can’t MTE 3 throw motions; I can only do 2 like a commoner. Then let alone trying to MTE while ETEG. Although VF5FS is pretty cool, I kinda wished VF4Evo (or a released console VF4FT) came back.

While I’m generally fine with single tap+button, I hate having to use double taps.

the problem is Joysticks aren’t designed to be efficient when it comes to double tap motions, but some 3rd strike players can parry anything so I guess it takes a lot of practice.

Tapping motions are far easier and quicker to execute than roll motions imo.

4 M T E is the max in in VF4-5 R. 3 isn’t bad, but 4 is tough.

2 is the average since it’s a hit check exercise. if you are bracing to.do 4, you’re doing it wrong, imo.

Hoping for a few more responses.

How do you come up with joysticks not being designed for double taps?

bcoz dts lgic nd cmon sns. pads work better with tap motions.

Can we all agree that basketball combos are the best thing in fighting games?

I’m still waiting for someone to make a Barkley’s Shut Up and Jam fighting game.

First I’ve heard of it.

Using the MTE training module in VF4E, I can get two pretty easy and I usually do the directional throw escapes just fine, but the third one always fucks up although it’s just a neutral P+G tech. Can’t tap P+G fast enough. I can do 4P+G > 6P+G, 3P+G > 6P+G, any directional P+G to 5P+G, but I can’t seem to do something like 4P+G > 6P+G > P+G that consistently although that last part should be cake. According to the MTE reader I only get the 2 instead of the 3, I feel like I’m close though. Then yeah let alone hope for 4 MTE. Thanks Femto for making me feel even more subhuman.

That’s more a Rival School’s style jumping sumo combo than a bball infinite.

Those DOA5 infinites are, lol. Any infinite is really. It’s just more funny considering people knocking on Tekken for juggles, and now they have a game where they go on forever.

Say, whatever happened to Señor Footsies?

Actually, DOA5 has a natural combo/juggle limit similar to 3S’ juggle limit or MvC2 undizzies. I believe the limit is 30 hits.
