FGD Lounge: for general fighting game discussions that aren't thread worthy

I’ve picked up GG XRD faster than any other fighting game, unlike KOF where I needed to really practice a ton to be scrub level, I’m out of scrub level and doing somewhat well against OG’s already. Like, I love studying this game holy shit and I don’t drop shit anymore.

Its weird, its like I naturally understand this game’s logic and how it is supposed to play.

Killer Instinct 2 had a RPS sistem for the specials and a Fierce > Medium > Weak > Fierce priority system for normals. It had NO actual trades actually, when 2 same strenght attacks collided.

Welcome to manhood.

GG is so good, it’s a shame some people can’t look past the anime flavor and the reputation it has for being complicated.

I believe that current KI has the priority system as well.

Are there any games that y’all like to watch but don’t particularly play? I love watching 3S, Vampire Savior and Tekken but I don’t really like playing with the actual mechanics of VS and I don’t have the free time to dedicate to learning Tekken.

I can’t seem to get 3S to work on Fightcade which is the only thing stopping me from playing 3S. Cooperation Cup was godlike and only makes me hungrier for this game.

@CaptainGinyu
PM me about that not working.

d3v, I know I’ve seen you post it before, pretty sure I’ve even asked before but the booze may start actually be affecting my brain. Traditional Astro City cabs are semitsu LS-32 with sanwa buttons, right? Did they switch at some point to all sanwa?

You know when you type out a comment and it automatically saves even if you don’t post it, I had a comment that I thought I posted months ago but I didn’t, lol… maybe it’s too late to post now.

I believe so. The JLF is comparatively newer compared to Seimitsu sticks like the LS-32, having come out near the turn of the millenium. What Sanwa had back in the day was the JLW which was more akin to a US stick, so you’d see more Seimitsus being used. Also, you could source panels directly from the parts makers and these all came with their respective parts (e.g. Seimitsu LS-32 and PS-14s)

How come they switched to Sanwa buttons? Some older players seem to hate OBSF buttons due to brushing against them and activating the microswitch

In tokyo a lot of old games use seimitsu ls 32 and that is pretty close to the standard. But some cabs have sanwa even for old games.

Also most cabs have really old worn down sticks. The 3s sticks at mikado suck major ass

I don’t play KOF XIII and I get so fucking hype watching it.

Also, why people say that Tekken and Virtua Fighter are the hardest fighting games to learn? I’m just curious.

Tekken cause the movement is extremely hard to master and VF cause they read an IGN review once I think

Does anyone know what platform was used for 3rd Strike at Evo 2004? Wikipedia says an arcade machine, but in moment 37 videos they are on a TV set. I suppose it could be some sort of portable arcade unit.

If not PS2, then it’s on a supergun setup.

So my dumbass just tried to jump back into Blazblue straight from a Xrd binge.

Yeahhhh I’m getting my ass whooped. Lol GG is infinitely easier to just pick up and play. Plus I forgot about how annoying some these BB characters can be. (Platinum, puppet douchebags, Tager, etc)
Still keeping at it though. I hope it makes the move to 3d soon.

GG is easier than what many people like to believe, even the old games were easy to get into outside the FRC, which at the end were doable with some time of practice.

I was watching some of KIT over the weekend and was curious what the beef between KBrad and KnuckleDu is all about, anyone care to explain? It seemed more like it was on KBrad because the long set they played the one night, KnuckleDu was trying to give him a handshake after and he wouldn’t do it.

The difficulty doesn’t come from the inputs and combos and shit, it stems from the fact that it’s weird as fucking hell having to keep in mind 4 attack angles.
On top of that you got like 5 defensive maneuvers that you actually have to make use of in order to not get run over. Most traditional fighters got blocking, reversals and if you’re lucky alpha counter/parries.
Then it’s hard to tell what is safe and what is not, some moves that become unsafe on just defend and you got a thousand combos and a lot of them have to be adjusted based on spacing, character weight etc. etc.

Kinda sounds like people who say SF4 is easy, coming from people who have a decade or more of Street Fighter experience, while all that shit totally goes over the head of new players.
Fighting games in general are really hard to learn and need tons of dedication and passion to follow through with them in order to actually get good.

And on top of all that you have to deal with confusing characters like Faust, Ramlethal, and Zato.

It’s such a shame that the new version of MKX isn’t coming to pc. They could’ve used all this time in between the original release to work on the bugs and actually release something worth buying :pensive:
