This is a little bit unfair as it regards to SC. The series has always had a huge amount of content devoted to single player. At this point the SC single player stuff is a prerequisite to a Soul Calibur game as training mode is to other fighting games. Skimping on the content, as it happened with SCV, is kind of short changing the fans because this has been an important part of the series since its inception.
BlazBlue is in a similar spot where its story mode is a big part of the series and its fanbase. If you shipped a BlazBlue without it, fans would have a legitimate gripe about the product. To some extent NRS games have gone into that territory. Its beenā¦4 games (MKvsDC had a story mode, right?) that theyāve been delivering with a high quality story mode. If MK11 ships without it and people complain, to me its valid since the company set those expectations for their own games.
Unfortunately this hurt SCV a shitload at a time where it released one of the best versions of the game. Seriously, SCV is so fucking good. The game is scary good. Its good enough to say that its as good as SC2. The game is good in a way that it feels like Namco apologized to you about SC3 and SC4 (and I loved how batshit crazy SC3 was).
But yeah, SCV is that fucking hotness.
This gen has been filled with a lot of amazing fighting games and ports of a lot of the great ones. People have been acting too jaded about SF4 to really appreciate the incredible experience thatās come together since 09. Should probably write something about it.
I like SC2 more than most 360/PS3 gen fighters. Never played SC5 (hated SC4), but the addition of supers turned me off from the game. I feel the Soul Calibur system is at its best when you spend most of the match in neutral without long combos or metered subsystems to alter the gameās pace.
Soul Cal V was chock full of interesting ideas. Itās probably the only 3D fighter outside of VO to try to answer S-Killās challenge of finding ways to create a 2D fighter like projectile/distance game with the addition of characters like Viola and Zwei.
Honestly, SCV is more along the lines of Killer Instinct where meter is mostly there for EX moves rather than supers. I whole heartedly understand why it is off putting, but the gameplay definitely got a whole lot of fun injected into it.
Aside from that, is there any way we can get together as a community and ask companies to stop doing just frame nonsense? I got hyped for tekken until I remember all that time I put in grinding the JF for Alpha Patroklos. I love the mishimas but EGWF doesnāt lovem e back.
Iāve watched Arisā SC2 System Tutorial video a few times but I still donāt get what he meant with all the setups and shit and how it makes the game turtle-y.
Is kof13 worth playing? I am a noob let alone a kof noob and the execution seems pretty tough, and a lot of kof players here are down on the game for forgoing the classic neutral or something and putting emphasis on high damage combos. That said it sure looks nice, and a couple bucks more is nothing to have two more copies of 98 and 02 to give away.
KOF13 is a very good game. Iām not that good at it though, but I like KOF games in general. Your execution has to be good if you want to be decent at the game.
With the front page re-announcement for TxSF, I might as well bring up a discussion here. Any characters from either side you really hope to see for TxSF? We basically already know the game is going to be centered around Ryu and Jin from the concept art, and Evil Ryu/Devil Jin are possible. Iād like some 3S characters for the SF side, and Drag/Alex/Roger/Lee on the Tekken side.
