Fei Long with TE stick

i have a weaker side doing st.HP>Rekkas when im standing on the left and if any of you have that problem and are using a pad, than do st.HP>FK from left side and St.HP> Rekkas on the right to limit error in a real matchup. I think it might apply the same to stick but if your really desperate to reset the position with rekkas than dont feel like you have to do St.HP Rekka on the left, instead opt for a cr.lp into rekka alternative to be safe. Yeah you might lose some damage but if your a safe player and arent confident in your execution due to lack of time practicing than theres no reason to eat a mashed DP when you could have avoided it.

Ok so I’m starting to get the hang of canceling HP Rekkas. It seems to work best if I rely on negative edge as opposed to tapping HP again. I’m getting into the habit of drumming my fingers across the Punch buttons to do this too. Sometimes I’ll get EX Rekkas which is something I don’t mind, but I wanted to learn stick so I wouldn’t have to rely on EX to increase my BnB output…

Next problem is Flame Kick> FADC> Ultra. I can get as far as Flame Kick> FADC, but the motions aren’t coming out fast enough for the Ultra… I guess that means more practice? Lol I’m hoping for a trick or two that might help me get this out easier but I guess I still have two days before my copy of Super arrives anyhow.

for you stick players, is there even a significant difference between Stick Fei and Pad Fei? I tried to transition to stick but Fei just feels more stable on a PS3 Pad. Only difference i felt was when i was playing Viper on stick which i feel is significantly easier for canceling and super jumping and Gief’s 360’s.

For plinking techniques it’s easier to use a stick. Also easier to use a stick for links.

One area where pad shines for Fei is CW and rekka input without a doubt. The awkward :uf: at the end of CW feels better on a pad.

To me using joystick or pad both have tradeoffs, however and this could be a big one…

Fei is in the arcade version of SSF4. Learning to use a stick means you can use him in the arcade.

is it even possible to plink on pad? As far as links are concerned, i dont really have problem hitting Fei’s links outside of his 1 Frames where plinking may make or break it, but i rely on visual cues to tell me what to do now when it comes to the HK/EX CW>st.HP and it has like a 20-30% success rate which kinda sucks.

You can plink on a pad but you have to hold it in an awkward way (and depends on your pad as well). Some people can do it some can’t. I can’t without sacrificing my inputs. This was discussed a long time ago between me and some other players when vanilla first came out.

I just want to comment:

Wow! I never knew what I was missing by not using a stick–I can now hit the CW> HP link much easier thanks to Plinking and cl.HP XX Super is actually reliable now. HK CW> cl.HP> Super is a 560 damage combo btw–landed that one twice so far online  I’m really starting to progress with the stick, but learning new habits is a tough process…

Coldstone: I’ve been using the Madcatz pad since forever and there are things that I prefer on it compared to stick use. One thing is the easy PPP shoulder button which makes it so easy to hit the Ultra and other things. Obviously you can program this on the stick as well, but there really isn’t much of a need since it requires you to get out of your way to press it. On the pad, as rpgr said, circular motions are much easier when compared to a square gate stick.

Plinking is possible on the Madcatz pad (haven’t seen how easy/hard it is for 360 pad), but you can only use two buttons unless your thumb is massive (in which case you should be using a stick). It’s not as easy as stick, definitely, but better than nothing. I’d say the main disadvantage to a pad is the tendency to roll too much on it. Since your thumb can easily cover the d-pad, when you’re looking to walk forward and backward, you may at times get a HCB which will cause a Tenshin if you try to do something like walking forward> backward> s.HK anti-air. Alioune seems to beast with his Sagat on pad though, so it may just be me :-p

if only you played on PS3 nosone =/

Lol is the PS3 pad that bad? [edit] Not sure what you mean :-p

nah PS3 pad w/ t-shirt over the dpad is probably the best controller in the world. Just a shame how 360 and PSN users can play against each other.

OMG finally. After pulling all-nighters trying to get comfortable with my Hori EX 2, I can finally pull off Ultras consistently as a reversal lol. I sort of cheat when facing the right side by pulling a 450 motion instead of two qcfs, but it gets the job done. My weak side is definitely when Fei is facing towards the right (player 1 side), but my Rekkas and BnBs are coming out more naturally on that side too. I feel like a scrub when playing people online, but it definitely helps to get a feel for how to react in a live situation.

Still having trouble with Flame Kick> FADC> HK CW/Ultra though. Do any of you guys map Focus attack to its own separate button? The EX2 only has 6 buttons on it, so that won’t be possible for me, but I know that the TE sticks have 8. Is that something that’s frowned upon, or purely preferential? I prefer to do things the right way, if there is such a thing.

It helps if you break it into parts. Practice flame kick fadc forward dash until you feel like you’ve got it down 100%, do the same with forward dash ultra and then put the two together.

i would recommend oct gate.

I just switch my MP to HP on my PS3 pad (default settings)
Now my mp will be r1 an my hp will be triangle, i got accustom
to my focus being R1+O, so getting my plink is easier.

So after my CW its way more consistent getting my HP out.

Btw what do u guys think about fei against the whole cast?
I’m not asking for a tier placement, i just want to know
if he can handle most of the cast on a normal basis
he is now my main an i won’t be playing anyone else but him
an i’m asking this bec the match up thread is not loaded.
I’m not from america but the Caribbean so i’ll put up some matches
to show my lvl.

double post >_< sorry

nappy Fei is very solid in this game. If you can learn the Guile/Chun matches you can learn to beat any other character. I’m never scared if any character has me cornered when I play Fei and except for Guile I have no match ups where I think to myself “Oh this is gonna be bad.” The current tier lists are so off. With the damage he’s capable of pulling, standard health with above average stun, his footsies and rekka mix up, and a better chicken wing, he’s really solid and viable to use in tourneys.

I don’t care what anyone says, I map my focus button to the L1 button on my TE stick. It took me a little bit but eventually I became extremely quick in tapping the L1 (now FA) for when time called for it. I don’t map anything else except for that one button.

you do know you can’t map that in tourney right??

the entirety of this thread can be summed up in one response.

Practice

Actually most tourney’s will allow the mapping so long as it’s game defined and not a macro on your stick. Triple punch and triple kick aren’t banned on stick even though I disable them just so I don’t worry about hitting them. Default stick mapping has triple punch and kick on it.

It might hurt you later if you go play on an arcade cabinet but if it’s a local tourney on console you’ll be fine.

i dont play tourneys so i dont really get what you mean. Are you saying players arent allowed to set button config to 1 button throw, Focus Attack, Taunt?
