Fei Long with TE stick

Square Restrictor

But I love my charge characters.

But I have a big problem doing rekkas right, only rekkas.

Anyone have any opinions or info?

Also! I don’t have enough money, end of that.

:db::qcf::uf: +piano :hp::mp::lp:

that should help you until you get your rythm. you may get EX rekkas from time to time, but this should stop you from missing the single button input,(usually you hit punch while still in diagonal foward) which usually makes you waste super at the wrong times

dude BlackNoob, I was like you bro - I had hard time getting rhythm on rekkas cause my movements were too slow and not very precise

But after playing around I kinda developed this grip on the joystick that seems to work pretty good with rekkas for me – donno if it will work for you but might be worth a shot

I hold the top ball with my forefinger and middle finger and thumb, place my ring finger on the other side of the shaft, and keep my pinky out of the way. Basically, your forefinger and middlefinger should be controlling one side, while your thumb and ring finger control the other. You push with your fingers and a bit of wrist.

This grip sort of limits the motion of your stick. A lot of my problem was my motions were wild and took too much time, so my rekkas would come out slloooowww. However, since my motion is limited, it makes my movements tighter and faster.

The rest is just timing on the punch buttons

I’ve played for 2 months with TE stick
Doing rekkas from the left side is now no problem
From the right side, i still miss a few

Same for Ultra
TE stick ain’t good for Fei IMHO, at least not good for me. I have very low success rate on flame kick cancel into CW where I could do it consistently with Hori stick…
I think this will require even more practice.
It’s quite funny to think that I’ll be quite better with a pad.

After i changed the square restrictorplate to octagonal in my Hori Ex2 rekkas just started to flow like a dream.
I don’t think that changing the restrictor plate to TE would be that hard job to do.
Changing the restrictor while modding my stick was easily the easiest part.

I heard octagonal isn’t very good for charge characters though, plus my warranty

i dunno, its my 2nd week and i am getting better with TE stick… i have to keep reminding my self:

 1. slow down on the inputs
 2. big circles

I find myself missing the down on my 2nd qcf for ultras. I still feel stick is better than pad for canceling moves to links. My fei needs a lot of work though but am not giving up!

If you play against Gootecks play on pad :tup:

Gotta use that shortcut: :d::df::qcf:

My problem is that the damn thing keeps registering a :uf: cause the window for :r: is pretty small and I make looping motions on my supers/ultras

I need slow down on rekkas too, I try to pull them off fast like flame kicks.

You can… do that?.. :rock:

It feels like you can input anything as long as it somehow looks like in some way to the ultra motion in fact :lol:

:qcf::df::r: works too

But beware, if you’re playing any other 2D fighter, you’ll get really bad habits so it’s better to stick to the real motion.

Thats actually working! May switch it up a bit, but by David Hyde Peirce its WORKING. Thnx for the info.

NP :pleased: - I think the grip helps in that it gives you an idea what the range of motion is. If the grip ain’t comfortable for you, I’m sure the same principles would apply to your normal grip. Just make sure your motions are as tight and minimal as possible.

A good test to see if your grip has motion is to stand and just to qcf over and over if u jump during that then that’s an error. The grip i finally settled with is a variation of the wine glass where the shaft is resting between my ring and pinky finger (so three on top, shaft, then pinky (diago’s grip also i believe).

One thing that really helped was to keep the wrist straight

hope this helps :tup:

ps: here is a good video of diago’s grip playing 3rd strike: its a good one since he does a super on both sides.

What is the benefit of keeping wrist straight?

for me i found i was missing the down on the 2nd qcf for ultra or super and hitting the diagonal more often. Once i straightened the wrist things started falling in place.

I picked this tip from this video: around 2:53 (he was talking about a different grip though but made me think about it)

wow. Nice. I guess I have to say I just realized what type of grip I used when I played in the arcades.

I would like to see how everyone holds their stick for some reason… eww?

Anyone else wanna share?

thanks for this video…

From the second link, I think I need to change my grip too… I miss Gief’s 360 alot with my current grip (when I was using my Hori, I sort of used my palm on top and I hit them a lot easier)… also dashes are kinda difficult, and they are a big part of my game so its a big no no
