Couple of vids from a tournament I was at against a good Honda player. I was doing a lot better earlier in the day… I think my energy drink was wearing off or something lol.
Also if anyone is wondering why I didn’t go for throw mixups more and just opted to push him out in close, he broke / headbutted practically every throw attempt I went for earlier in the day got broken / headbutted so I was trying to zone him out and push him out of I got in close to avoid headbutt / splash / hands etc etc honda shenanigans.
I think a couple of matches are missing, since this was first to 4 in grand finals, second set. I think it was 1-1 when this started although I could be wrong.

Quite solid Fei, I just noticed some wrong placed chickens (were u going almost always for crossup with them?) but nice reflexes overall.
I would have liked to see more clMP after jumpins (its blockstun can really throw off the timing feeling for the opponent) and the far stHP as a poke (its range can really help against honda).

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I was going for the cross up CW / trying to beat Honda’s st.HP with it. I didn’t use st.HP much because Honda’s st.HP has a weird hitbox that evades most pokes thrown at max distance… to hit him you kind of have to overextend your poke range and I didn’t wanna get that close.
I’ll try the cl.MP after jump ins more to mix it up… I was at a loss on breaking this guys defense.
Rewatching it though I think I will avoid going for mixups / in close all together and just never jump in / go for cross ups. I noticed when I lost, it was when I went for cross ups. Better to just maintain the distance all together and not risk it.
Man great matches, the only thing that I thought you could have done better was punish those jump ins. That being said the first video looked like you tried to but the flame kick came out after honda had already landed. But overall great match, the defense of that honda was awesome! and in the last match of the second video, the time win was crazy, lol I was so into the video I didn’t realize it was almost time out. But great overall in the patience and skill department! This just makes me want to get out there and see how I stack up ina tourney, but sadly I have no time

Also, I think you’re right about the jump ins although the range I was lurking at, when he jumped it was right at the range where if he didn’t attack flame kick would whiff but if he threw out an attack it would still touch me. I woulda anti-aired with st.HK more but Honda’s jumping normals tend to beat out normal anti airs just because of their ridiculous hit boxes. I definitely missed a couple though where flame kick was free.
In winners finals I didn’t let him jump a single time. I dunno how I went from that to not anti airing him at all lol.
Definitely gonna try to fight honda a liiiiiiittle closer next time though. I’m mostly just trying to stay away from cr.LP since that move can turn into damage so easy.

Also, cool, didn’t know you knew Roski lol. Do you ever go to the Myrtle Beach tournaments? I’ve been meaning to head down to one of those one day. We actually have another tournament this saturday at gamefrog in Durham again but I don’t know if it’s worth the 2-3 hour drive since the turn out is on and off. This particular one in the video had a lot of people but usually our Lucky’s tournaments pull a bigger crowd consistently.
I met Roski at Final Round, and saw him again at the Gamefrog tournament right before Super dropped. I go to Myrtle Beach a lot. But they are more of the Tekken crowd. usually when they have a tournament it means getting really wasted more than it is about competing, lol. Speaking of which, on the 4th of July weekend I’m going to Myrtle Beach.
