Fei Long Video Thread

me vs Zak (Yes the good Zak from England), losers bracket. The first match I played with Honda but that started to feel a bit uncomfortable so I switched to Fei. I absolutely choked after landing a guaranteed j.hk in the second round which probably would have gotten me the round right there if I had just done a ultra into a cross up, jab, EX tenshin followup.

There is a match of my Fei vs a Sim from Singapore but I don’t know if it’ll be uploaded I have to yell at the guy who filmed it.

I’d use more cr.mk as a poke, you might have caught him with that because he wasn’t ducking against your cr.mps. That also might help you get a cr.mk > super. EX CW can help counter attack the rush punches because of the invulnerability and will sometimes break armor at the right distance.

I find the Rog matchup to actually be in Fei’s favor. UGH you should’ve used some CW’s and focused some more…CW goes right through Balrog’s dash punches. You could’ve caught him a lot of times as he did mostly dash straight punches and didn’t really mix up his punches. If he did the dash diagonal blow(focus break one)you can punish his dash diagonal blow with cr. LP > Rekkas if I’m not mistaken. Also cr. MK is a better poke than Cr. MP in this matchup…stuffs his pokes and dashing punches. I think you need to be less mechanical and more unpredictable in your playstyle with Fei…that Rog player was content to keep you at bay with pokes and dash punches all day and you didn’t even really try to counter against him or try to get in close. CW is actually a very good pressure tool in this matchup…after a cr. MP, try doing a CW instead of a rekka to mix things up. At -2, it’s safer than a rekka which is -4…it may have slower startup but the invincible frames in the beginning make up for it.

The only time I agree that cr.mk is better than cr.mp vs boxer is at ranges where it will beat dash punch where cr.mp can’t basically only at max dash punch range. Balrog has “bison feet” as we call them in sweden, his hitbox around his feet are a lot smaller than his character model. When you’re in cr.mp range don’t ever consider anything else ever.

I probably should have focused a bit more since being a bit random can work in my favor against a lot more skilled player (Zak is pretty much #1 in Europe together with Ryan Hart). I tried not to take any big risks the only risk I took was pretty much 1 random wakeup HK CW. the only combo Zak got on me was when I messed up a AA.

I totally messed up my offense/combos way too often, still not happy about it.

Why random CW against dash punch when focus/neutral jumps have the same reward and don’t risk getting punished if I guessed wrong and he just sits there in which case he will just punish me with some EX move or headbutt/ultra.

cr.mp, mk cw how is that a mixup the only time that’ll work is if he did a EX dash punch at the same time otherwise he’ll just hold db after the cr.mp and either block or counter the mk cw with headbutt, ultra.

MK/HK CW will go right through dash punches…you just gotta time it. It takes some practice but once you nail it, it’s very useful. It also beats alot of Rog’s pokes like st. HK and cr. HK and gives you frame advantage too!!! Also you can do cr. LP > LK/MK CW to cross up Balrog…mix this up with st. LP/cr. LP > Tenshin to confuse him. I’ve been using Fei’s forward throw a lot…walk up a bit and do Jump-in MP to fake cross up works pretty well…make sure to punish with EX CW or rekkas if he decides to headbutt to the otherside.

The thing is lp dash straight has 13 frames startup so it’s impossible to “time it”, you have to guess and for god’s sake stop writing everything in a single paragraph it’s incredibly annoying to read when you write about several different/unrelated tactics/setups in the same paragraph.

It’s not impossible…I’ve done it plenty of times. I’m just trying to give you advice but clearly, you’re in the mind that CW is absolutely useless. It’s funny b/c you make it seem like the other opponent is totally psychic…you are aware that he has to guess just like you too right? Look, I’m not talking about doing a CW when the opponent is acroos the otherside of the screen and turtling on you…ofcourse he’s gonna see your attack coming b/c he’s set himself completely in a position to counterattack.

You do CW while the opponent tries to poke at you as a counterattack or while you’re on the offensive so that he’s not only just thinking about counterattacking without penalty and thus has a harder time guessing correctly about what you’re gonna do.

According to your logic, CW sucks b/c it can be punished. Well so can Rog’s dash punches…Neutral jumps, cr. MK and cr. HP and Focus attack should’ve had that Rog player thinking twice about spamming random dash punches but did that stop him? Nope!!! He landed several against you…maybe you should’ve stopped playing so damn safe and actually take some risks too. It’s not gonna backfire EVERY SINGLE time you try something new or random you know…take some risks too! You could’ve beaten a lot of his pokes with CW and got in close but you were content to stay outside and fight his fight…wrong strategy IMO.

Balrog’s combo with ultra is scary. I always think twice before hitting any button when he has ultra meter. But sometimes, as Hotawg said, I played too safe and put myself in a position that I can’t throw out random pokes and kept getting pressured, ended up costing the match even I did well in the first half.

Now I think pretty much no Balrog would throw out random ultra, which means he needs a setup first, *most likely *started with a headbutt or a overhead dash, both punishable. So I’ll just wait for those moves and punish him. Eventually he’ll think twice before throwing those moves and I’ll have an easier time attacking.

And I agree on doing fa more often in this match, until he switches to turnaway punch, which can be easier to punish on reaction.

Very good player overall but no he is not.
7-2 against his Balrog
12-10 (or something like that) against his Akuma both in my favor.

You obviously also messed your defense. You ate countless dash punches. It’s time to learn to block. You were walking toward him without really caring about blocking at some moments. If you block dash punch you should at least reply with reversal rekka and see how he reacts.
If he goes for infinite dash punches, at some moment, you should try to FA one at least.

Neutral jumps and focus are as much punishable than CW. But CW gives you the opportunity to apply pressure, get close then mixup take some chip damage. We’re not talkin here about full screen CW huh. MK CW leaves you at -2. There’s nothing that Rog can punish you with for free.

I didn’t notice that Zak was a Cyborg. I’d like to see a Rog player consistently punishing every close range CW with HB. On top of that, he was walking backward most of the time, not even holding dback.

I agree with Tsua. This matchup is in Fei’s favor.

EDIT : There’s a difference between being one of top players and being the #1 top player.

Really zak is one of Europes top players and just counting casuals I almost went even with Gootecks with Fei/Honda but that doesn’t meet I’m as good as him or even near.

I counted the dash punches he did and he did 1 “random” (as in not in a combo or a whiff punish) every 8 seconds. It’s basically a midscreen poke and it’s 13 frames of course it’s gonna hit sometimes.

The last MK CW hit takes more than 30 frames to hit (tested in training mode) so really from that distance there’s no reason it should be less punished than a jump and that’s often the distance you get if you do “psychihc” CW against dash punsh and he didn’t do anything.

I never said he’s gonna counter it 100% it’s just that he’ll know that he should block after a blocked cr.mp since I’m on plus and if he does a reversal it’ll probably beat the CW anyway.

He obviously won the mindgame war against you in this match…he didn’t even fear your focus, neutral jump, or any pokes of yours and opted to poke you at will instead…Fei’s rekkas come out even faster than Rog’s 13 frame dash punch so by your logic, you should’ve had the upperhand as it should hit too since it’s faster and thus even harder to counter against right?

But I didn’t even see you throw any rekkas out? You could’ve caught him or atleast put some pressure that way if you didn’t want to use CW. You see I don’t understand how you can say, “Well if I do this move, he’ll do that move to counter or punish me!” BUT then you go on and say, “Well if he does that move, I can’t do anything to counter or punish him!” when obviously that isn’t the case. Ergh okaaaay.

Actually you want to time it so that CW hits either from the 1st(preferably) or the 2nd hit…meaning you must do it somewhat close. I use CW as a sort of small jump…it’s good to hop over low pokes, for punishing backdashes and great against pokes upclose.

Well that may have been the case but you never really know what the other guy is thinking…sometimes it’s better to just take that risk so you can get a reaction from the other player. That way, you can read your opponent better and know what or what not to do…preferably you wanna do this in the beginning rounds where the opponent doesn’t have an ultra or super yet lol.

But honestly, I don’t blame you if that wasn’t your best performance…I always play pretty bad too when I’m up against someone really good. I just get really nervous, intimidated and my execution is crap…takes awhile for me to get calm and play at my best. But for tournament goers such as you and StarNab, it shouldn’t be that big a deal right? =}

lol tournament goer this is the first “real” tourney I have been to, otherwise it’s just smaller (top 20 people) at a little place called Dragon’s Lair (Gootecks was here last week and he’s aready mentioned it in his tv-show and he did a podcast with our top 2 players which should be out sometime soon, just representing:smile:).

Now that you mention it I didn’t use rekkas all that well. I never did max range hp rekka, lp rekka which is something I usually do. I just played too defensively and sorta failed at it.

Last argument in CW vs dash punch. If Rog does lp dash straight close enough it’s punishable on block and I don’t think he ever did dash punches at normal poking range, still this doesn’t say much about CW vs normals (range where second hit will hit, very important since 3rd hits about as fast as a normal jumpin) but I really don’t want to get into a situation where I’ll have to take his mixups or go for mk flame kick FADC which gives horrible juggle opportunities. You could see that I was trying to play a more footsiebased game against him and for that the super is vital.

Still I was outpoked and I missed most of the chances I got.

Unrelated but I’ll maybe get hold of a PS3 again so I’ll get a chance to settle this “beef” with StarNab and Maaza maybe we can play some more.

Edit: ranbat final the second match it’s my fei vs sakura. EPIC tenshin combos people! If you’re wondering why the finals only get to 1-1 it’s because I had to leave on WO (also left a 3s ranbat at the same time) and no that change from chun to sakura wasn’t really allowed:rofl:

I win
yagami: SHORYUUUUUUUU!!!
bubblan: I’ve gotta go
skatanmilla: no, shut up!
bubblan: I’ve gotta go!

epic finish for the second SFIV ranbat season. Overall I got third and about 13 dollars for it=)

Ah well talking about tournaments

I’ve won one 2 weeks ago. My very first one  No prizes though. There was some foreign players from Spain and Netherlands

The vids have been uploaded yesterday :

Good shit StarNab…hehe how about StarNab’s Fei vs Bubblan’s Honda for the European title next eh?

hehe and we can stream it on StarNab’s channel too but I think it should be Fei vs Fei to fight for the top Fei in Europe. Still I can borrow a semi-broken PS3 but I’m not too sure about SFIV I’ll post here again when I do.

And about StarNabs matches how did that Ryu make it to the Finals? The competition in quarter and semi-finals was a lot better.

Nice Nabbie

Holy shit :wow: Starnab your defense is so strong. Watching those videos especially the honda match, you flamekicked what felt like over 85% of all jump in attempts.

My defense is probably the weakest part of my game right now :lame: I miss like half my flamekicks which ends up with me getting hit by a full jump in combo half the time :crybaby:

watsup guys, soCal fei here, showing you guys the latest matches ive been in versing one of the Ai players at the FNB gatherings… Friday Night Beatdowns… by dj Vest. Art the Honda player. lol i have more FNB matches with other players thing is there all shyyty webcam quality… on livestream.com

i was very sloppy… ughh makes me dissapointed lol\

Star, on your finals match. it seems to me that your opponent jin, had no idea how to execute any good combos…i think his mind wasnt in the finals becuase he did not do anything a pro ryu player would do. he looked like an amatuer ryu player. This tournament was free, so i would imagine hardly any competitor would be there.

you were only sloppy in the honda match really, you did quite well vs balrog.

no body beats starnab’s fei !!! not even jwong’s fei !!! see how star did fei’s cw? it look soo tasty, tastier than kfc, and that flame kick is hot !!! hotter than any spicy chicken !!! sorry guys almost lunch time here so i’m super hungry but no chicken :frowning:

congrats star !! you are the star of our beloved fei
