Fei Long Video Thread

hey ballatician, we shoudl get some fei mirrors in sometime. im still learning, but it should be fun. you are in the bay area so we should get like 5 bars i hope. well, that is if you have xbl, im hoping that pc next to your tag is just for decoration.

Yo KillaKelly, I see you’ve been doing well in the xboxlive tournament…are you using Fei or Gouken?

well, all of my matches i used fei. I picked him 1st for every match. if i lost i switched over to gouken, but if i won, i kept going with fei. So, if you were to look at the brackets the 5-0 wins that you see are fei exclusives. i kind of regret using him against luken and bowser cuase both the ryu and gen match-ups im not too comfortable yet. but, it wasnt a total loss, cuase it let me see where i was at and how i can do when it counts. I had some execution errors against luken’s ryu with fei and it led to my loss. Luken has what i consider a better than average ryu with good execution, i kept it close though. against bowser’s gen, i was just lost. He was a jumpy gen and i didnt know what to do really. Most gens i play stick to S.mkxxslaps repeat. he didnt, he mainy utilized gen’s small jump arc and ability to easily cross up. I couldnt consistently AA him, they kept getting beat. So he was able to jump all over me with little to no punishment. I also dont know that match-up yet with fei.

Sorry KillaKelly, the PC version is all I got dude… :frowning:

bummer, i figured that, but i had to give it a shot.

Hmm, match-ups…

KillaK, you basically described the match-up to yourself and did very well: stop Gen from jumping at you…by any means necessary (only other thing is don’t focus fish). Fei has a stronger ground game than Gen simply because he outranges him and can punish his whiffs. With this knowledge, you KNOW Gen is going to fish for focus, backdash (not often), move forward in the space you open up, and play with jumps

If it is a case of knowing what is punishable as far as normals, I understand. Sweep is a given lol

The only thing that really changes about match-ups for Fei are the following:

 1. do I out-range them?

a) if no, I poke and punish whiffs
b) if yes, I poke, move forward and punish whiffs

 1. do they have an invinc or 3fr reversal?

a) if no, more cw until i am taught otherwise
b) if yes, sparingly, on reaction to stuff, or in strings

 1. is their fastest normal 4frames or greater?

a) if no, walk-up stuff into CH fish is stronger
b) if yes, you have to use tighter strings and more rekka/cw loops

Actually, I’m going to arrange the thread in this fashion as I think it is pretty neat. I already linked VR-Raiden’s Punisher Guide, so that is worth a mil. Just take some time and glance at the char in question and he more than likely has tackled them.

On a different note, I fought a guy yesterday in players matches named “Guardedbyangels” who claims he is part of the EMPIRE crew. He was very good with Cammy and he spanked my Abel but he lost to my Fei. He then switched to Guile so it was his Guile vs my Fei and I barely won with 15 wins to his 13. Talk about a beastly Guile…he shut down all of my offense with st. Jabs, st. Fierce, cr. Fierce, sonic booms, focus attacks, and air throw. Rekkas and regular Chicken wing were all shut down by focus attacks, sonic booms and basic normals such as st. Fierce so the only way I could get in was to jump in(which is pretty freakin risky considering how great Guile’s air throw is and cr. Fierce is) or to time a perfect EX CW which is quite hard against Guile since sonic boom recovers so fast. Also Guile walks back pretty fast too so in order to catch up and get close, Fei has to dash in which sucks b/c his dash recovery stinks which means you eat EX sonic boom or back fist to the face. When I did get close, his defense was still tough as he teched all of my throw attempts and either blocked or punished all of my overhead attempts on reaction. You could tell he was very knowledgeable of this matchup. After our matches, surprisingly he told me that my Fei was better than Justin Wongs…said that unlike Justin, I was able to land Fei’s links everytime and that I played way differently than him. Boy did that boost up my confidence! =) He also said he was able to beat Justin’s Fei pretty consistantly as well and wants more matches with me!

Fortunately I was able to edge it b/c I was able to land EX CW > cr. LP > rekkas quite consistantly which really surprised me lol. Once I got him to the corner, that’s where I would win. Crossed him up with J. LK and fake cross up J. MP, and mixed it up with tenshin setups, BnB combo or I would only do up to 2 rekkas and then reset into another cross over into another tenshin setup, tick throws, safe jumps, etc. He was kinda dumbfounded by it all lol. Ugh but man, I had to work hard once I got inside…I can’t tell you how discouraging it was when he was able to escape from the corner and I had to chase him again. Sometimes I just lost out of frustration lol.

Ska v Wong: My Fei Is Better Grudge Match?

lol your description of your exp is very epic. at some points you’re on a high as if you were just DESTROYING this guy with mix-ups and other points it seems as if he is the ultimate defensive monster

On another note, what sort of ‘corner pressure’ were you using that he was sometimes able to escape from?

Haha I’d probably lose to Justin. He has a better grasp of SF4 than I do for sure. Besides I hate Fei mirror matches…

LOL well, it was either he destroyed me or I destroyed him. There were a few close games but that’s basically how it went. If he was able to get out of the corner, chances are I would lose lol. Even when I did get close, it was still pretty tough b/c all he had to do was stick out a cr. MP > Sonic boom and then you get pushed back that much farther and every inch farther means Guile gets the upperhand. So he knew that I had to rush and press him and do something to him which meant that I was vulnerable to a reversal flashkick > FADC which meant he gets away and I have to chase him all over again. Freakin sonic booms are such a pain I swear…he knew how to differentiate the speed so well that they could be used as anti airs and for zoning. Then there was Guile’s insane st. HP…has so much priority and comes out very fast.

Well it was kinda weird. I used a lot of j. LK on him at the corner. Sometimes I would cross him up with it and sometimes it would look like it’d cross up but instead I’d land right on top of him which nets me a free BnB combo. I also J. MP to trick him too but it wasn’t quite as effective but still useful. When I crossed him up, I’d go for either a tenshin set up or tick back throw to put him right back at the corner and then from here, trick him again with cross ups and tenshin setups. One thing that worked quite well was not fully finishing Fei’s BnB combo but instead do cr. LK x 2 > st. LP > cr. LP > Rekka x 2 > cross up with J. LK > BnB with full rekka to push him back to the corner. I was just so focused at keeping him in the corner lol b/c I worked so hard just to get close and I wasn’t gonna let him escape again. It really sucks b/c eventhough EX CW is useful, it’s not a guranteed knockdown or big damage unless you get the cr. LP > Rekka timing right and that’s IF you can land it successfully. If it gets blocked, he could simply dash or jump back to get some space, or just reversal flashkick fadc or just block your Flamekick FADC and tech your throw. So in the way of offense, I was limited quite a bit.

God i hate guile, great to hear you did well. i havent had to deal with any even close to what you described, but just from what i have encountered it takes work to get inside. i too would like to know what happened that led to his escape from the corner.

EDIT: i was posting this when u responded, ignore my request, it was answered already

Oh haha, it was just me messing up during a tenshin(mistiming the st. HP after) or getting the timing wrong with Fei’s BnB combo…all it takes is one screw up and then he gets away! UGH!

thought i’d add this, some minor negative edge info fei players by david sirlin (ssf2):

Hi everybody I’ve decided to stop updating this thread (I’ve lost my motivation). Is there anyone who’d like to take on the responsibility either by creating a new thread or by occasionaly PMing me with the entire list so I could just copy it to the OP with minimal effort?

Sabin (Dhalsim) vs Justin Wong (Fei) @ Battlefield Arcadia #7 Winners Finals:

Oh yeah, that’s what I’m talking about…beating a great Dhalsim player in Sabin with Fei.

Nice use of Jab tenshin.

After seeing it from the perspective of Sim/Seth, it really does take quite a bit of work. You should always know, as a Fei player (or character that has to get in period), most of your stuff becomes low risk/high reward…the only worry is them getting knd into oki. If Sim isn’t punishing with throw or b+mk xx flame or super/ultra and if Seth isn’t punishing with etc,etc xx kicks or throw or ultra or dp and what have you, that is exactly what it looks like. Not to mention if the said user has weak okizeme (edit: or you are just continually guessing right). These are some of the things that I have been trying to level up.

hey guys, just stopping by at the forums again lol been awhile… heres a match of me fighting kilomax at friday night beatdown sessions in so cal. talk about me being sloppy lol.

There was a french tournament this sunday. Some english players came here in Paris. I had a very exciting match with a Fuerte player :

I ended 2nd in that tournament.

Nice match. I enjoy watching you play Fei Long. Man that commenter was annoying. Anything the Fuerte player did was the greatest move ever according to him. :annoy:
