Try TK might strike too, I read earlier in this thread it recovers faster than ground one.

looking back at seth’s demo of thor and to today with the game out
do you think he was off his rocker calling the character someone whom zangief users would love
What’s the TK stand for?
Tiger knee or rep end in up+attack.
Thor has some funny combos with wesker got up to 7.5k for one bar sadly you can’t do more than air dash short cr.short before the launcher. Should work off command grab though. Mid screen it’s a bit harder but it works and does more than the regular charged might smash combos by at least 100k. Still trying to get solid damage numbers
Haggar lariat assist is really good for Thor. He can use it to hit-confirm both his Tornado super and his Shockwave super. I have crappy reaction time so it’s shockwave super all day erryday for me. The lariat puts the opponent in a hard knockdown state, so they can be OTGed by the shockwave.
Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if Thor can get a brief combo into launcher from the lariat assist as well. Too lazy to fire up my game right now though lol.
My Thor soooooooo needs this assist. Thor already hits like a fucking truck, so having this type of assist that discourages rushdown is a huge help. Now I just gotta work on my Thor combos so that they land more consistently.
Haha, I discovered instant overhead TK strike on accident in training mode and rushed here to post that shit, only to find your guys talking about it. Good shit.
Just wanted to say thank you so much for this. I was having a similar problem, and just went to the lab and my success rate sky-rocked. A tip of the hat to you good sir. :china:
Ive been running Thor with Wesker with some pretty impressive results. His low direct assist (Samurai Edge), comes out really fast and it allows me to keep up massive corner pressure by calling in Wesker as Thor does a tridash+L for a simultaneous overhead+low attack. Great for opening up someone’s defenses. Also, if the opponent is really pouring on the zoning shenanigans I can use Wesker to close the gap and call Thor in for the smackdowns when it’s safe for him to jump back in.
Though Bronze is really turning me on with that Lariat talk. Might have to try that out.
lmao i was reading the guide for thor yesterday and they mentioned it as well. the tk strike helps alot.
I like how mighty spark assist totally kills sentinel drones dead, is it viable to use this assist to kill sentinels zoning game?
I’ve been working on my Thor team and I really like Thor/Hulk/Sent right now. I’ve had alot of success with using either hulk or sents armored moves to start a juggle then do the air switch(forget the name) into Thor then start a reset from there. Starting with Hulk you can do C, S, j.B, j.B, j.C, switch to Thor, j.B, j.B, j.B, activate flight, throw, S, j.B, j.B, j.C then either strike into super or air switch again back into Hulk since the throw reset also resets you ability to switch him in again. The super option will kill standard health characters, while the reswitch does only slightly less damage for no meter or you could still tack on a Hulk super for a little more. Pretty good meterless damage from midscreen. Another thing to mention is that I think people are sleeping on thors c.C. The thing has a huge range and if you dash cancel into it you can start a juggle from about midscreen which can often lead to a kill with this guy. Really starting to love this guy. Sorry for the wall of text, posting from iPhone is akward.
So… whiffing a hyper and DHCing into Mighty Punish is… interesting. Hehe. Just remember that is an option people!
Loving this guy on point, just need to stop dropping my combos when I do land stuff.
Just going to throw this out: Hsien Ko (Pendulum)/Thor (Mighty Spark)/Hulk (Gamma Wave) rocks the house. I lead with Ko then get her hyper armor going and get her out (tag, DHC, air exchange, etc.) asap, then start in with Thor or Hulk. The synergy is amazing. Ko’s armored Pendulum is ridiculous as an assist, and it totally paves the way for the bruisers to get in and stay in. And they do sooo much damage, that the opponent has to be scared to punish because one slip and they eat 100% pretty easily. And between Mighty Spark and Gamma Wave, you can actually win some projectile wars (stops Sentinel assist cold). Thor and Hulk also both have specials that are their primary forms of movement (Mighty Strike/Smash and Gamma Charge), so that’s some nice synergy, as well. And the DHC’s are ridiculous. Catch them with Mighty Tornado and you get a free Gamma Crush. Catch them with Gamma Wave and you get a Mighty Thunder. And as for Hsien Ko, Tenraiha goes perfectly with Gamma Quake or Mighty Tornado, and Chireitou goes with Mighty Thunder or Gamma Tsunami. You guys REALLY should try this team.
I hope the reason this board is so quiet is that everyone is in the training lab…
Anyway, I’ll try and provide my tiny bits of info that I’ve learned. So, I was talking about DHCing into Mighty Punish. Now I think it’s just stupid. You can jump out of Mighty Punish after the hyper freeze, so if you are whiffing a hyper with your point character, your opponent is probably just safely holding downback waiting for you to finish. Hence they are able to jump and escape (though there might be the possibility that the previous hyper is staying on screen? Not sure how they all work yet)
Oh well, it would have been amazing if it was a 0 frame move, but that might have made things a bit too easy!
Yes, we need some more activity here. Personally, I do nothing but go to the lab because my connection is too bad to get on Xbox live right now. I’ve got a few nice tricks I found in training but I can’t check if they work in a real match until I get up to a friends place and try it out. The real big thing I want to check is ending air combos with heavy mighty strike. You land before your opponent and the screen doesn’t follow you so they can’t see what your doing. You can follow up with jump into throw reset, or if they try to attack to beat the throw you can relaunch them instead. It’s a 50-50 guess and if they guess wrong you can 100% them either way. But like I said I haven’t tested it in a match yet, so I can’t be sure how reliable it really is.
I did this only once and never explored it through, but now I’m thinking this would useful for my team.
Body Splash > Mighty Punish.
Bionic Lancer in the corner, go through opponent > Mighty Punish.
I’ve got to try this.
Also, any suggestions for Thor on point against rushdown characters? It used to be Haggar but he’s more reliable as backup when Spencer’s low on life.
You need Haggar’s lariat assist, or a really good projectile assist against rushdown. Thor can zone pretty good with :l: Mighty Spark if you have another projectile back him up (preferably one that the opponent can’t duck). Still though, lariat assist is the better choice against rushdown because they will get in eventually and then Thor is fucked.
Ogrim: Nice idea with Hsien Ko’s armored pendulum! Thor and Hulk work really well together–I always have them paired on a team. Thor’s Mighty Smash is a great pressure assist for Hulk, and as you mentioned, Mighty Spark + Gamma Wave assist will win in ALOT of projectile wars. Gamma Wave by itself is a great projectile, with the exception of it’s slow startup. It has a shit ton of priority. I’ve had it go through people’s beam supers and still hit the opponent. The first team I ran was She Hulk / Thor / Hulk. I still play them a bit but Thor is the weakest link because of how easy he can get rushed. However with She Hulk on point that team has great DHCs. I can do her dropkick super->Tornado->Gamma Crush for huuuuggeee damage. Now though if I want to put Thor as a starting character then Haggar will ALWAYS be on that team. Lariat assist gives Thor all his standard combo options. He can follow up a lariat with Mighty Smash into launcher, or he can OTG after the lariat knockdown the opponent. It is ssssoooooooooo good against rushdown. The most important thing is obviously the combo and damage potential, but what’s also important is that it can cause the opponent to hesitate on their attack which in turn opens up more options for Thor (like command grab or running away to create more space).
With all that being said, Thor’s d+M hammer spin is actually a very good anti air move and you can combo it into his launcher. It’s great against characters who don’t have many air movement options when attacking you. However if they have some sort air dash to cross you up then it’s worthless.
Also the M version of air Mighty Strike is GDLK against Sentinel. It’s multi-hit so it shits on his super armor, and according to the guide it gives Thor +frames on block.
The more I play I’m getting a little more comfortable with Thor. Lariat assist has been a gigantic help lol.
Decided to use Zero/Thor/Doom for my 2nd team. Zero has some pretty nasty corner combos with Thor Mighty Strike and Doom Rock’s assists.
I tried to learn Hsien Ko and Dormammu like you said ogrimtitan I just couldnt really get a good feel for them. I havent given up on Dorm yet so maybe he will replace Doom/Zero later.
Anyways yea I am pretty garbage with this team so far. Although I get a lot more satisfaction winning than my main team of Wesker/Chris/Sent.
You know what ignore what I said about air Mighty Strike beating Sent’s super armor. It will beat the super armor on his sweep, but Sent’s :s: launcher apparently has hyper armor according to the official MvC3 guide. When I saw air Mighty Strike beat it before then it must have been before the hyper armor kicked in (or my opponents had mistimed it).
So yea, your taking a huge risk attack Sent from the air. Great.
You are taking a huge risk attacking Sent period with basically anyone lol. That robot is just nuts as of right now. Some of my online buddies who I have been playing with for a long time even get salty when I use him against them. Usually when we play it is nothing but laughs too… not when Sentinel is in the game though haha.
I need some help with moving with Thor especially those who have a good run away game. His Air dash isn’t brilliant so I avoid using the air but I sometimes use mighty smash to move in. Any good ideas to close space?
