FEEL HEAVEN'S WRATH: Thor Thread Reloaded

Yeah, faster, state how you were a Thorfan all along. If you wait too long noone will believe you, and its very important that they do!

First post btw, Hi guys :woot:

Since this is my very first vs game, and i have almost no understanding which characters/assists have a good synergy, even after watching countless videos, my first Team will consist purely of my favorite characters. I am pretty certain i will start with Thor/Shehulk/Akuma (Ryu for the first arcade playthrough). Cant wait.

I was with Thor from the reveal. When everyone was saying he’s bad I didn’t care because I was going play him anyway. I’m glad his potential and God like status is being shown but I also think we’ll be seeing a lot more of him online and in tourneys.

Yep, MSH Captain America is the original Gouken back throw into ultra! :shy:

Thor will still lose to zoners, and I don’t really think there’s a assist that helps him all that much in that area. As I put it awhile ago. He’s the Geif of mvc3 your gonna have to play smart and chase alot of characters down.

Thor is only really scary when it’s 1 on 1 or he’s sec or last to come in with x factor imo

some thor stuff

you can kara c.c and s.c

you can delay the c.a->c.c chain and kara the c.c into grab into combo

you can straight up do c.a->s.c chain kara cancel into grab super or normal grab

Welcome to SRK.

God damn, that is mighty(no pun intended) sexy!

Thanks a lot, Humbag! You’re giving all Thor players everywhere their vindication.

I tested escapes for Thor’s XF Guard Cancel. Obviously not all of them, but just some general theories.

JC-able moves can avoid it such as Chun dash HP -> hold up. Of course, you can just XFGC then do a jumping air piledriver (which of course she can dash away from).

I tried Ryu c.LK -> DP, and could not grab that either.

Magus suggested doing XF to counter XF… but I don’t think you’ll be able to do it on reaction. Not because reactions are slow, but because if Thor XF’s first, the screen pauses and messes up your timing big-time. However, if you are trying to BAIT the XFGC out, you can do all premeditated (so you just dash c.LK -> XF and hold up). This would XF before Thor had a chance to… I believe.

Again, this is all day 1 stuff. Probably come back in a week or two or a year and laugh at it all.

Oh shit, thor with the tri-dash, is it as good as seth made it out to be? I mean it obviously won’t be as good as magnetos but how is it? Looked nice in that vid.

I messed with Thor’s dash a little bit (not nearly and exhaustive test or anything) and it felt sort of… sluggish? There’s a height limit on when he can perform it, so you can’t jump and immediately do it… he has to be a certain height or higher. Also, once you get to that height and air dash down/forward, it seems that it’s hard to combo anything from it. That being said, I didn’t put a TON of time into it, and I’m sure the Thor specialists will figure out how to maximize it!

One thing I noticed is that in a super jump, you can do his reverse DP move and then air dash after… but not after a regular jump (or maybe my execution was off).

Ah cool, so at the moment its nothing to write home about. Cool, cool, hopefully some specialist discover some good stuff for it though.

i cant wait to thor it out some of the videos for him are looking sick

Hey trag, is Thor’s reset (air command throw ) escapable? If so how?

If it is, only way is probably with an instant air teleport, otherwise you’re muffed.

Wait, doesn’t that mean Thor has a infinite of sorts? If there’s no way to escape the throw, then isn’t using the meter for the Tornado a waste? Couldn’t he just keep doing the same reset and not worry about hitstun scaling?

Ah so it’s a 50/50. At least you have a chance to escape. So in the case of the example video, if Captain America held right (forwards), he could have escaped?

Ugh, I feel like I might get bodied by this reset.

Not sure if it’s that easy. Thor probably has a big advantage against an opponent in the corner after that reset, but couldn’t the opponent air-dash or poke after they flip to the opposite direction? Just a thought. I suppose if they can’t escape it, hooray for us Thor players~!

in tvc, air resets were completely unavoidable and very easy to time, when you flip in the air the only thing you can do is block for till you finish the flip, meaning the throw was free no chance to teleport air super or anything. do you have a choice which way to flip in this game in the air?

According to UltraDavid (where did his post go?) and Seth/LIJoe (in a psuedo-interview video session) yes.

Still seems like a tough 50/50 as the one getting grabbed more so than for Thor.

Cross-posted from the Trish forum:

So I’ve been kind of pondering a strategy with Trish of using her traps (both on point and as an assist) offensively. For example, using them in conjunction with certain assists/point characters to gradually occupy screen space and force the opponent back into the corner. You could do some creative offense to get the opponent backing up, then lay a hopscotch trap to cut off the screen behind your character, preventing them from jumping/dashing back that direction so they have to continue their retreat into the corner.

I’m thinking of using Thor as part of this, since he looks so ridiculously beastly in the corner (and because he’s my favorite character), but I need a partner to round out the team. Thoughts?

Good shit dude! His tri jump looked pretty decent in that vid!

Yea, where did UltraDavid’s post go? lol

Once we get the game we’ll figure out how to escape this reset stuff. Record & playback mode FTW.

However I still would like to know what are his reset options form mid screen. Can he still use his air grab reset after a Mighty Smash OTG.

For example:

air series, :s:, Might Smash (OTG), (reset), air grab?

Will that work mid screen?
