I think Thor is going to end up being like Tekkaman.
People think he sucks at first, due to poor mobility and speed. Then they see his damage. Suddenly he’s gdlk, but then later on down the track as the game evolves further, he becomes bad again.
you may as well put them on the front page. It’s only a matter of time.
The real flood will begin when they hit front page SRK.
Honestly though I’d be surprised if Sent (and some other characters…derp) couldn’t do something similar as well, seeing as how he also has a command grab that he can combo from.
So that’s the plan…tell everyone to GTFO and go back to Sent
characters who may have similar reset shenanigans appear to be she-hulk, super skrull, spidey, haggar as they all have air grabs or grabs that target airborn opponents. Thor looks like he’ll be the one to get the most damage out of it though.
Nah what I mean is that Sent uses X-factor to break out of an opponent’s block string early, and then uses his command grab, and then follows that with a 100% combo. The only thing I’m not sure of is whether Sent can combo after his grab while mid screen. IIRC all the combos we’ve seen so far are corner only.
Regardless, this is going to make command grab characters (who can combo after their grabs) REALLY scary. ABOUT FUCKING TIME grapplers got some love in the versus series. Can’t wait to do this shit with She Hulk & Spencer. Although I already figured both of them could X-factor AFTER landing their command throws. Wesker can combo after his command grab too, can’t he? I think it causes a wall bounce (and he already hits like a train).
My She Hulk / Thor / Hulk team looking better and better. Fuck, I need to start speculating on how to use this with Hulk. His grab doesn’t seem to have as many follow-ups as Thor and She Hulk, but he can probably just X-factor cancel and use standing :h: instead since it got super armor (and it will thus absorb the next hit in the block string).
it’s not just grabs though. Everyone is going to be able to start a full combo after xfactor guard cancel off their 2A, etc. providing their normals are fast enough of course.
I’m guessing anyone with a teleport will escape it easy. Really though I imagine a :l: while in the air will beat his grab. That’s how imagine the whole mixup going:
Opponent blocks in air->Thor gets free grab
Opponent mashes :l: in air->Thor’s grab gets beat
The big question is how will Thor discourage the opponent for mashing :l:? I’m hoping that he can do it with a new air series of his own, so after a reset he jumps up again and starts a new air series to beat their mashing.
well i guess it doesn’t matter anymore.
skrull/thor/sent
reset with skrull involving MightySmash assist and RocketPunch assist>Inferno xx Thornado = DEAD
thor stays in, SkrullTenderizerAAA incoming character, if they get hit, xfactor combo with thor = DEAD
if they block skrull assist, jump and command grab after blockstun> xfactor combo with thor = DEAD
thor still has some xfactor left, repeat step 2 or 3 on third character>reset with thor = DEAD, U WIN
small exceptions for the highest health characters and one hole. some variations as well.
One huuuuuggeeee thing I’ve been wondering about is how his Mighty Smash assist works after an air series->:s:
For example, if I’m playing She Hulk (or whoever), and do:
air series->:s:, Mighty Smash assist (OTG)–>???
What are going to be the options? I’m mainly concerned about whether the opponent recovers quickly after the 2nd hit of Mighty Smash. If they don’t recover quickly then She Hulk (or again, whoever) can probably just re-launch with :s:, oooooorrrr just jump and do a magic series followed by a re-launch with :s: when they land. If the opponent does recover quickly then that means I can use She Hulk anti air grabs in a reset.
I’d rather get dat guaranteed damage, but I won’t scoff at a reset either.
Really though it seems like they can in fact be comboed after a Mighty Smash OTG, so I’m probably worrying about nothing. Plus the combo you posted seems to indicate that so duuurrrrrr
What interests me greatly for both Thor and She Hulk is finding resets that leave the opponent at normal jump height, since it’ll be much easier to get air to air grab with him or anti air grab with her. Resets during super jumps will be great for Thor though, but I’m not sure about her. It’s gonna really depend on her normal air to air grab (the :f::h: that everyone can tech)–I don’t know if she’ll be able to OTG after it like Hulk can.
I take it you never played MSH or XvSF where everyone was technically a grappler thanks to pretty much everyone being able to throw > hyper or throw > OTG > Hyper or throw > infinite.
Oh, and team “Sparks” is looking pretty hot about now.
Looks like I hopped on Thor’s boat just before the flood. I’m ashamed I want on his side sooner since I love healthful characters…I has just assumed that Thor was still perceived as bad…until I watched some video from the CES build.
Still trying to figure out who would be my preferred third for a heavy hitters team. Thor/Sentinel/??? Hulk looks more tempting the more I look at him. But maybe She Hulk? Or Captain America?
I just want to say “I told you so.” Nobody believed me pre-CES when I said that Thor was going to be scary. I might be playing this tonight if certain stars align. He’s on my list.
