Thanks
If not for spectators, sponsorship goes away, pro gaming becomes impossible, and big tournaments like EVO cease to exist.
These are facts.
PS: Do you show up to major tournaments planning on making grand finals. No? Then you’re a spectator too.
Where would you draw the line though? If you’re gonna give Chris a yellow card saying that he threw his match then yellow cards should be given to players who don’t show up to their matches.
Yo, you’re really bitching about this?
^ took me a second to figure out your avatar lol.
anyway this whole yellow card business in general is fucking retarded. if a player choose to lose for whatever reason then he should be able to.
I don’t fully agree; some things shouldn’t be allowed to happened and players should be penalize in some way for it. This isn’t one of those things though imo.
Is this a joke? EVO was big before all that shit happen and will be big when it goes away.
PS: matches on the free play station to get as much experience vs people you don’t normally play > spectating
Again, I made this about the consistency of rulings, but I’ll humor you nonetheless.
You’re saying that when EVO grand finals takes place, accumulating in the work of an entire tournament season, with thousands and thousands of people watching, if they decided to split the pot and didn’t play it out/made a joke about it, that would be fine?
Pretty much everyone would agree thats not cool, and anyone with a brain would be able to understand the repercussions of something like that. It shouldn’t be OK in the stages leading up to EVO, either. Its not less of a big deal just because less people were watching.
No it wasn’t…evo didn’t exist before spectators. Everyone watching top 8 who came to play in a tournament but didn’t make it, is spectating. This situation is seriously over your head.
Even if someone did it at EVO, I’d be cool with it, holy fuck no one NO ONE is owed anything when it comes to tournaments if they’re not the people playing.
If you think chris g picking random select against BALA is the same thing as Justin wong putting phoenix on point against Noel brown than you need to use some common fucking sense
I must lack a brain but I don’t see how this effects anyone but Chris G.
You should PM the people running tournaments then, because THEY ALL DISAGREE ENTIRELY.
If you can’t see how this affects the integrity of the genre, then yes, you must. By that logic it wouldn’t effect anyone but the two finalists in grand finals at evo, either.
While all these hypotheticals are cute little possibilities to support your argument, you have to understand that NO ONE would do that at EVO because the entire FGC would be watching and would shame them til the end. ALSO there is nothing bigger than EVO. Every thing they’re working up to is to be THAT GUY who takes EVO and make a name for themselves by winning. I refuse to believe that anyone is that complacent to put so much work into their trade that they’d put their competitive spirit to the side and sacrifice a chance at glory so they won’t look bad while trying and losing or so they can split the pot. If Chris G knew he wasn’t going to win (how the hell did he get 2nd anyway?) then who’s in a position to tell him how to go about losing? Comparing this to JWong letting Noel slide (which, if you look at their track records in vanilla was an OBVIOUS contradiction to this situation where JWong was the clear favorite by a considerable margin and played a more broken team) is simply reaching.
… No, it really doesn’t affect anyone else. It was one man’s decision in a COMMUNITY, not an organization of employed players. The only person that could have a problem with this is his sponsor, and considering his performance in every game I don’t think they have much to complain about.
If streams and spectating-only weren’t free, you’d have a point. People paying are there to play.
This is the dumbest thread ever holy shit.
[edit] Both sides by the way, everyone is stupid except me.
People are getting off track here. Way off.
Listen, the people who think Justin throwing the match was worse than this are simply right, because it’s match fixing. Justin is expected to win and didn’t. Chris G is expected to lose and he did, so that is not match fixing. There should be no argument here.
However in the fancy full rules of Evo, they say they are trying to get the best sport of competition from players yada yada (I’d quote but phones are a pain) and say that there are penalties for not giving it your all.
That’s all this is. Did Chris G put in a competitive effort or not?
EDIT
Also losing seed points isn’t really a big deal you know. Bypass rounds of scrubs like me? Big deal, if they’re good enough already to make GF, they’ll go far.
You’re very wrong about that. Ask Mr. Wiz how many people pay to get into evo without playing/playing to win.
Chris G going with random select is his risk. I don’t see this as anything more than that. To be honest he had a better chance trying to surprise Bala with a random team than sticking with his cause he had no shot at winning.
This is not the same as him not pushing any buttons against him because if I recall correctly he played the matches out with the random teams and gave them a shot.
