Chris G played and made money in almost every event. For KoF, he felt he had no chance to win, and decided to reserve his energy for other games. I know not many of you will ever understand winning a big tournament, most won’t ever even compete in one, so I think it’s important to state how dumb this entire thread it.
Chris worked his ass off, and in the end of KoF, knew he had nothing to offer. So he played it smart. 2-3 day events are rough, especially when you’re entering more than one game. Mental stamina is a hard thing to maintain at majors, so maybe you all should take a step back from judging people.
And who the fuck cares, it’s KoF. MLG gave away almost 17 grand, and less than 30 people entered. If people really gave a shit, they’d be on a plane. No johns. (Not saying KoF isn’t good. But it’s clearly unimportant in the grand scheme of things.)
Yeah. I mean I do think Chris should be carded, but now that I read the “Justin Precedent” again, I don’t think it can be applied to this situation.
That was for MK though. He tried playing the first two games with characters he played, Reptile and Noob Saibot, but then went to Kung Lao during the 3rd game, effectively giving up.
Anyway, as far as setting a precedent goes, if I’m not mistaken Justin Wong did the same thing against Royal Flush at the Shadowloo Showdown qualifiers: (the first match)

In the end, I guess it’s Evo’s discretion or whoever to decide what affects the integrity of their competition, as it is their competition after all.

In that situation, Justin already had a trip to Australia via SSFIV AE. It would be pointless for him to win marvel as well, and he chose random for the rest of his time in tournament.
Funny thing is that he actually still won a few games.
I’m sure the cheating of helping a friend might of only just increased the awareness of the under-performance , I will agree with that . It’s really all up to MrWizard and Evo Staff to decide if under-performing like this will lead to penalization . I can understand where Chris G is going about not being able to have a chance against him , but there is a difference between trying to level up by analyzing the match-up for future reference (for short: using his team and actually grind the match-up,) and then there is picking random select without analyzing game-play patterns for his original team for when they may face again in the future (for short: under-performing in the long run.)
Plus they only let him play on that condition because as I recall he kept reporting on whether or not he’d be allowed to participate under normal conditions.
Chris got mollywhopped…read… downloaded… whatever. simple as that. He decided that maybe I can random the guy out. Ever been in that situation? He played in good faith and STILL lost. The guy he played he could not beat. Yet he got to the finals on skill. No holding back.
Chris has yet to ‘prove himself’ fully in the aspect of KOF… so calling for what your calling isnt’ fair. He again… simply couldnt beat the guy an took the route he figured hell might as well try to random the guy he is gonna win. you guys have to allow a player to gain some clout notoriety in the game before you pass judgement of them sandbagging or whatever. Now let chris get past this evo and see where he stands THEN you can ultimately call him out if you see it like so.
Justin WON A MATCH with his ‘wacky’ team, then after losing the second, switched to his usual team and lost 3-2. You’re right, it isn’t even close, Justin made it look like he put in MUCH more of an effort.
That’s because Justin is a far better player than Noel. What happened last year would be the equivalant of Bala picking random at Power Up not Chris G.
There is a culture of people sandbagging for various reasons in the FGC. I think this culture needs to be policed. I dont know how , but it shouldn’t be readily accepted under any circumstance .
My main argument is that most of us want to see this community raise to bigger heights . In no other sport or competition is “obviously” sandbagging exceptable , because it only perpetuates said sport / competition as a joke .
Yes, and then we can policy what you can wear to the tournament, what type of stick you should be using, the ten words you can use on stream, the amount of sleep you’re allowed to get, and even whether or not you have the proper amount of eyelashes for stream exposure!
