Careful with the Family Video place, I ordered it from there after someone said it was a good option. It’s now on back order, I ordered it on the 11th and it still hasn’t shipped.
I found one at a EB Game Store. Watch out for KOFXI and NGBC both coming out October! (From Gamestop.com web page):wonder:
I liked Joe’s since it sounded more “authentic” and with the clapping lol.
I was disappointed when it wasn’t included in the collection, but whatever.
Krauser’s is completely different. I forgot what’s called, but I remember it being on those ‘Diamonds are forever…’ commercials. I think it was by Mozart.
Besides that, Takara did a shit job on the snes versions. The charactes were too small and it felt entirely different from the arcade. The genesis version of ff1 and 2 were TOTALLY on-point…unlike the genesis version of Samurai Shodown.
I remember reading in magazines that the Genesis version of SS was actually the good one. It was missing Earthquake, but the characters were pretty big and the pad layout was good. Whereas the SNES version was permanently zoomed out.
Have you ever played Genesis Samurai Shodown? I rented it from Block Buster back in the day, and even though I was a little kid I could tell it was suuuuuper shitty and unplayably bad. The speed is SO.FUCKING.SLOW, the animation was shit.
So, ummmm…
Tier Listings?
There really arent tiers in this game imo, except Tung is somewhat limited. Ryo is way up there because of his bullshit unblockable rush super (XTG likes for me to beat his ass until he is low on life to spam supers and get lucky). Kim can also spam supers cus his does decent chip, so the opponent feels pressure.
Mai has sick runaway, Duck is VERY strong with an infinite and command throw.
Joe, Terry and Andy are all basic as hell but strong. Imo Andy is the best of the three because his FB is slow and fat and Zen Ei Ken with A button is hella fast and barely any recovery.
my best char is Laurence Blood who IMO is underrated. I can explain at home better (typing w/ wii remote now).
Strongest are Billy, Ryo, Kim, and Jubei, weakER probably Tung Fu Ru Cheng and Big Bear, But this game is HYPER BALANCED, remember anyone can counter attack…
Man it is so freaking impossible to find this game. Freaking idiots at EB told me they have 3 copies but have “misplaced” them. They said I should call back later. Man I really think that I can’t remember if game store employees have ever been as borderline retarded as they are now. When I was working at game stores I always knew what was coming out and why things were delayed. Seems like now these idiots just sit there and look stupid cause it is just way beyond them to know what games come out when. What is REALLY jacked up is that I am only buying this to have it on PS2. I freaking Own a Neo Geo Cabinet with all these f**king games…Lame sauce.
Picked this up today at one of the EBs in Burlington (in Best Buy Plaza off Brant Street). It was their only copy AND behind the counter, so I was lucky. I’m buying this purely for FF Special, lol - I have fond memories of it and FF2 from my youth.
BTW, were their “bounce & blood” codes for FF2 and FF Special? Meaning codes that put in Mai’s Japanese sprite (more bounce) and blood? I know they existed for the early KOFs, but I can’t remember if Fatal Furys had them as well.
Interesting. I don’t know, but now that you mention it I thought there was a lack of bounce compared to the last time I played, but could be my perverted imagination.
I know in the AoF collection, in 2, if you beat the crap out of Yuri and King their clothes get ripped and have their bras exposed.
It’s cruddy, but a cool feature I never knew until recently. Ready 2 Rumble had a similar feature that they were boosting about on the Dreamcast.
One other thing - is “super mode” still accessible in FF3? The code you have to do at the start of the match to let you do your hidden technique mega super thing? The manual (poorly) says how to do it, but I (and others) can’t get it to work, and I’m worried that since SNKPUSA switched pause from select in the JPN version to start for North America, said code, and possibly others will no longer work.
First of all I finally got this little bastard. I like it, pretty faithful port/ ( I own them on MVS ) I also got this and AOF and I am pretty happy with both. I am a sucker though cause I like AOF2 and 3 and I love Ff2,Special and 3. 3 is way better than people give it credit for, but whatever. And yes, the super mode is still there. I just havnt tried it.
You’re right, Wolfgang Krauser’s theme is by Wolfgang Mozart…“Dies Irae” (Day of Reckoning). I bet Mozart never predicted that rockin’ Genesis version, though…
I have to give props to the 16-bit programmers back in the day. They didn’t have the greatest audio specs to work with…just a crappy cartridge (as opposed to a Neo Geo uber-cartridge). And, they still managed to do the original music justice.
Billy is really good. Especially in those stages where there is only one plane (like his own stage). Crouching SP into light club crunch is good stuff.
Again, gotta give props to 16-bit programmers…cramming all that into a Genesis cart was hard work. Of course it wasn’t perfect by any means…but when I played the Neo Geo version after playing the Genesis version it wasn’t TOTALLY foreign. Plus, 6-button Sega controller was tight.
And, those sprites were huge for Genesis.
I have to give it up for Takara. I never played the SNES versions, but I’d imagine they did a good job there, too.
Anyone here used to own the Sega CD version of Fatal Fury Special? Animation was crappy. But, after playing FFBA now, I’m suprised at how accurate the gameplay feel was…even with all the missing frames…
Why is it Fatal Fury 3 is supposed to suck now? I played it like crazy last night and I really enjoyed it. I saw some match videos for it as well and they looked freaking cool. There are some downright silly combos and re-dizzies but everyone has them so that kinda helps. I didn’t see any of those combos happen in a majority of the matches I saw.
Any word on Super Mode? Is the command still Start + all attack buttons, or did they change start to Select?
Just picked up my copy today during my lunch hour. Can’t wait to play it tonight.
For anyone interested locally,
Montebello Mall (CA - 626) has about 2-3 more copies.
I got fed up looking for it, so I ordered FF and AoF collections on Amazon. Hopefully it gets in soon.
I was curious to know if Franco was in any of these FF games or just the Real Bout one’s? Also any word when that collection is coming state side?
Mike Hagg— er, Franco Bash(u) made his debut in Fatal Fury 3, so he’s in this.
I’m guessing that a Real Bout collection is coming to the US as on the back of the instruction manual it has “TO BE CONTINUED…” (I can only hope and pray that Garou is included, though I know I’m deluding myself…)
Also, SNK needs to GET SERIOUS and KICKBACK a collection of Samurai Shodown games. That game would be the LIVEWIRE and would totally ROCK YOU.
ARE YOU OKAY…?
Franco is in FF3. He looks a little different than in RB but still cool. He has a really cool animation for his entrance, you should like it.
BB: If it is following the Battle archive collections from Japan, which is it is, then the next one will be RB, RBS, RB2. MOTW was the last part of the collection so that may come out alone if at all, lik eit did in Japan. The other collections were AOF, Fuun Super Combo, The KOF series like split up into something like 5 sets, (94-97 I think this was Orochi Saga, then 98 as its own game, then 99-2002 was the Nests story line then 2003 alone, then Neowave by itself) Last Blade collection and World Heroes was the last one I think. they are all under “the Best” series of SNK collection stuff. I think htat there were stand alone games in the “the Best” collection too, like KOF 2002, SNK vs CAP, KOF XI, SS Tenka and SSV Special
