Fargo/Moorhead - Free since Alpha 3

Hey I am planning to move to North Dakota from Los Angeles. Interested in doing oil work, anyone have any info on that?

L.A. player in ND? Watch out! L.A.'s no joke. Good luck on work.

Now then, do you guys have any tournaments coming up? How many SCV players do you have in Fargo/Moorhead? The more the merrier I say. I know this is mainly a 2D site, but it’s also the site with the most traffic.

No luck at the Grand Forks meeting last night, but I was pretty low key, just scoping it out. Maybe they’ll have some Soul Calibur tonight.

Hey Fargo, you guys got anything going on over spring break? So far I’ve had zero games in Soul Cal 5 up here in Grand Forks, they didn’t meet this tuesday and I don’t know if anyone is coming over the break. But if you’re having any tournies or even casuals for SC5, I’d be down to take a drive out and get games.

Wow, this thread needs some love. How about a tournament?

Sooo uhh sorry I haven’t checked this thread in forever. We had our tournament today in Fargo/Moorhead. Wasn’t as big as the last one but it was something to make up for the cancelled one.
We do have 1 SCV player here haha and he is begging for some people to play with. If you join the Facebook group you can get hold of him easily: http://www.facebook.com/groups/209413892463246/
We play all the 2D games mostly, there is atleast a small group for every 2D game. AE is the most played, surprise. Hope to see you sometime even if you don’t play with the majority.

Dang, 1 player huh? I tried SF, I just didn’t have the quickness to keep up with the strict inputs. I’d be willing to give KOF a try, maybe some MvC3, I hear it’s pretty good.

MvC3 has some players around here. About half as many as SF4. We all want to get into KOF but never have the time when there is school and another new fighting game every other week.

I’m down for some mahvel.

Yo hit me up for marvel sometime sent you a DM of my number. I play Marvel the most and the best around here so ya.

You in Fargo or Grand Forks? I’m at Grand Forks AFB. I currently don’t have a car, should be getting 1 soon tho.

I reside in Fargo at the time being. Next week I’m going home to the St. Cloud area though. So unfortunately we can’t play to much.

Actually there are more Soul Calibur players, they just tend to remain hidden. Hit me up sometime in a PM and you can join in with me and Rob. We’re closet SCV players.

Yo I’m Black, Atheist, and liberal as hell. Am I gonna fit in? I’m looking for a trucking job.

As long as you are willing to come hang out and play games you are going to fit in fine. Don’t know to much about the trucking scene though.

I want to thank everyone who came out and made Fargo X Moorhead a success today. Glad to see we still have the players to run a good tournament in the area.

First, here’s the link to the results thread for the tournament, for those who want to see: Fargo X Moorhead (SFXT 1v1) Results!

Next, we’ve officially announced the next tournament for June; Cross Critical Combo. We’ll be doing SSF4AE, SFXT and SCV. I’ll post more details about it to the official thread over the next couple days as Rob and I get things figured out. What I can say is that we’ll be following Evo’s rules as closely as we can with some reasonable exceptions for our format. (Will probably only be doing 1v1 this time around for SFXT, we didn’t have any interest in 2v2 today)

The Saltmine is OPEN

This has been a long time coming, and this needs to be done. Unfortunately the small scene that we have in the Fargo/Moorhead area has been littered with animosity between small groups. A lot of us have never seen eye to eye and unfortunately all of us are to blame. Rivalries are great and fuel the fighting game scene, but unfortunately more drama than anything has come about over time. I believe this is simply from a lack of players here in general. Not only do so few people play, those who do may not play the game you’re interested in. This has led to “factions”, douchebaggery, and general B.S. that has really hurt the community. Sadly everyone I know that plays including myself have somehow taken part in it. I’ve tried since 2005 to really get some form of community together and something has always got in the way. I’ve tried very actively with my good friend James to keep something alive, which included 3 guys playing the shit out of 3s after being yesterday’s news forever. It hasn’t been easy and it always has proved a challenge with everyone’s lives and schedules to keep playing. I’ve done all I can to turn my friends on to the newest thing whenever a new Capcom game comes out. I’ve had a vision about what could be done to make this community what it should be and I wish it was more complete (our set-up, twitter account, YouTube Channel, streaming, planned tourneys, etc.), but recent conversations with other players in Fargo and my long-time fighting game friends are making me unveil this now. So here it goes:

Games are being played in Moorhead @ 311 Main Ave Bridgeview Apts # 102 every Saturday night starting at 7 pm and going as late as 3 am some nights. My close friend James has an excellent place to host these games near downtown Fargo and Moorhead. We have created a twitter account “FargoSaltmine” with details of when we are playing. Just follow us on twitter and you will know when we are playing. We play nearly every Saturday. If it is ever cancelled for any reason we will let you know out on twitter!

Saturday is the day that works best for the majority of the people that I know that play, and is the only day James is available to host. I apologize right off the bat if this does not work for you, but it the best we can do. Here is what we currently have: 2 Evo monitors, 2 non-HD Sony 32 Sony CRTs (both with component video), 1 360 TE Stick, 1 Seimitsu modded 360 SE stick, 2 PS3 TE Sticks, 1 PS3 Seimitsu modded SE stick, 2 stock PS2 Tekken Sticks, 1 Sanwa modded PS2 stick, PS3 System, 360 System, PS2 system, 1 powered HDMI splitter. We are working on doing a dual monitor set-up so each player has their own screen. I have that set up at my place and bring it sometimes. It sucks unhooking everything, so I am buying a splitter for the “Salt Mine” very shortly. We also have microphones, laptops, speakers, and the ability to stream. We also have the following games: 360 and PS3 UMVC3, 360 and PS3 3SOnline, 360 and PS3 AE2012, PS3 HD Remix, 2 copies of PS3 SFxTekken, PS2 SF Anniversary Collection. Basically if it is a Capcom fighting game we are down (I’m not saying we won’t play anything else, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough interest in anything else). Although we are open to many different games, the main focus will be UMVC3, AE2012, and SFxTekken.

If turn out is good enough we will try to do a tourney every couple of months. We have been lucky enough to secure TWO COMPLETELY FREE VENUES which should allow for LOWER ENTRANCE FEES and*** HIGHER* PAYOUTS.** This is going to be about the COMMUNITY, not just making a buck!

THIS IS AN OPEN INVITE TO ALL SKILL LEVELS! ANYONE IS WELCOME . . . I REPEAT . . . ANYONE!!

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!

P.S. Any questions you have can be asked in this thread or on our twitter page: “FargoSaltmine”

P.S.S A Fargo Saltmine YouTube channel is in the works once we get this thing rolling

There is the professionalism in a post that is probably needed to get people together. I hope you are less lazy than I am with getting a hold of people that you don’t already see on a regular basis to come to events and casuals. I would love to show up on Saturdays but I work starting at 10pm every Saturday, which only gives me like an hour and half before I have to leave, could I beg to start at 6? I would recommend making a facebook for Fargo Saltmine and joining the group so you can let everyone know (cause no one there really uses twitter.) I’m excited that you found free venues and let me know if you ever need help with anything, grab my number through Ben. Also, if you’re looking for a good time for a first big tournament to get hype started, try doing it a couple weeks after schools are back in cause a lot of our guys went home for the summer. (Including our best Marvel player. I hear you guys like Marvel.)

I guess right now is all about getting the word out. There is still a lot of stuff in the works and I haven’t had much time to collaborate with the others yet. This Saturday we will get a lot of things better stamped out. I already have a few people working on getting the word out via flyers, website, etc. James (the host) doesn’t get done until with work until 5:30, so it’s really up to him. I will have to see what he thinks. I just wanted to leave enough time for him to get home and get prepared. He’s a super easy going guy and I would expect him to at least make a compromise if not start at 6. We will definitely look at doing a major tourney when everyone returns for school. I know right now isn’t the opportune time with a lot of people gone to try to get everyone together, but I want to get the ball rolling now. Thanks for your support  I will grab your number from Ben and keep in touch.

Here’s hoping this continues past summer so I can actually participate.

It will. I’m more than confident it will.

If you want to ensure it will, help us spread some hype about it!
