This is certainly a who’s who list of ST players. Jim Sejas? Rekkaken right? I’ve seen this guy beast! I haven’t heard of him since it looked like he would hit that next level. Bummer. The man had skills.
What happened to Pete Talley? Didn’t he win an ECC beating Cole once? I’m surprised Henry Cen didn’t make your list. What happened to Chris Li and SF2Freak? They were coming up too with Masaka. I remember watching those guys closely only a couple of years back.
Thanks again for the list and in return, I will try and see if I can get a hold of as many as I can to attend MWC this year. I’m interested in the build up to this summer too. I’d like to see if your list changes any by then because they seem quite accurate. I’d make a few changes myself but I don’t have the knowledge you do so, I’ll be watching the tournament build up keeping this list handy and make a log of all matches involving those on the list and any new blood that defeats them.
I’m going to start cataloging these for future use. Perhaps next year we can do another game in a similar fashion and have the ST US Championship every 2 years.

Your talk is entertaining. I just want you to DO something to warrant the attention you get. You’re 2nd rate even on the EC.
The reason there is a 2nd tourney is because NKI and some other people were pretty interested in seeing a replay of last year, so that is how the tourney is constructed.
If i ask people about DSP, they would probably tell me that he is a free loss to them too and to just put them on the flukesters team instead to give them a chance. Thats why it’s not based on opinion and people trying to hijack spots on the teams.
I think the way it is now makes the most sense, has the people that are actually involved, and settles what people want to see settled. DSP’s team vs Cole’s Team is entirely seperate from what is being discussed here, and noone even knows what ‘old school’ vs ‘new school’ is about. If you want to attempt to organize that you can start another thread and attempt to figure it out. This one is pretty much settled.
dsp, say what you want, but i don’t think my bracket was “easy” by any means. i don’t think the people i played at last year would appreciate that either. I think i handled myself pretty well against great opponents: s-kill, sirlin, zazza, justin wong, kuni. all in all, i just wanna have a good time and see how i stack up against the old schoolers and to show that what happened wasn’t a fluke.

Anyone else experience the Vega no flashkick(the one where you go off the wall, not his sonic boom flip thing) glitch on PS2 AE? I’ve been playing the game for some time now and until today when I got to see another vega player have errors doing flashkick motion i thought I was just rusty with my sticks.
The glitch: When Vega is a character chosen, st version im guessing, who knows it might be all vegas, sometimes both characters struggle or cannot do flash kick moves the entire round or partial parts of the round.
I don’t know what causes it but its a serious concern for me considering he is one of my main characters and also because if someone else picks vega they can spoil my flash kicks on other characters.

graham: i heard something about vega’s(claw) charge moves not working correctly in AE a while ago. like you gotta charge longer or something. im not really sure to be honest since i try to avoid that version heh
If people are throwing their names in, I should be on the list also. I have tournament wins over at least 1/2 the people you have listed.
And Graham, that’s confirmed. The same problem happens on one of the PSX versions that was used in the tournament last year also. In my pools, we had a Vega vs. Guile match where neither of us could get our charge moves out on one setup, but we could play the match completely normally on the setup right next to it. Thank god no more console this year.
Hey man, I beat Choi, Wilson, Watson, Flash G, and James Romedy in that order, then went on to beat you and NKI, but apparently I suck too. We’re flukesters! My opinion is based off of our match in the top 8, like I said I know you’re an Xbox Live player and thats probably why you don’t know the matchup. I really think that our New School team needs to plan for this event and discuss strategies, share insight, etc., because I think we could all use the extra experience. When you’re going up against a “god team” of ST players who have been around since the game came out, and they’re pissed that we whupped them up last year when they slept on us, I think we really need to take it seriously.
Graham, you’re right, on all PS versions of ST/AE you can’t do fucking backflips half the time. I was actually HANDICAPPED last year in the ST tournament because half the time I tried to backflip, I got wall jumps. At one point I thought it was my stick until I talked to someone and was told it’s actually just the shitty console versions of the game that fuck you over. Just another hurdle I had to jump last year, since I did play Vega for most of the tournament, yet I’m a “fluke” with no skill…
TheGrape1, the fact is you didn’t’ come to EVO last year, so you really have no grounds to say anything about me. You don’t know me personally (I don’t think we’ve ever met) and for you to be here shitting on me is pretty lame, considering you really don’t know if I have skill or if it’s all hype. Save the hate for EVO and say it to my face when we’re playing, and then pray to God you win the match, or else you’re going to look like a fool. I, personally, have nothing to lose, because I’m already so hated in the community for “saying it like it is” that no matter what I do, I’ll probably never be respected as a player. lol You put Justin over me when I beat him very ST tourny… Two ECC’s in a row ECC 7, ECC 8! I won NEC 6, and 5th at Texas Showdown. Lost to Cole and Jumpsuite Jesse btw. 5th at MidWest 2005. Had a toe to toe vs Seth Killian that tournament where it was 2-1 him by a pixle off a counter match btw cause I beat his Rog then he switched to Honda and I still played Vega both games and it was that close. I won recently a Rhode Island tourny where I beat Phi inconclusively. Won and placed in various AE tournys including Canada, but that game doesnt count. Wheres the love for a brother!

Anyway the idea sounds pretty fun provided I’ve been iffy about Evo cause its Console…but ST seems to be getting alot of love so it may be a go!
Jeron really doesn’t get enough credit, he’s gotten drastically better in the past 1-2 years in ST and can pretty much go toe to toe with me and anyone I’ve seen. IF I were to have a “Team DSP vs Team Cole” event, Jeron would be on my team, hands down.
Like I said in the very first post, I’ve never seen anybody directly say it, but I think it’s pretty obvious that nobody takes console tourney results seriously, and a console tourney is the only one I’ve ever done decently in. (Dunno if the ST team tourney counts or not, 'cause Gian was on my team…)
Maybe I just took it the wrong way, but to me it seemed like you were just shitting on the tourneys CigarBob and I are trying to run, and that is pretty uncalled for considering that CigarBob is the sole reason why there was arcade ST at Evo at all.

I don’t really see a problem with him being on the team. He was relatively unheard-of before Evo, but if you look at the people he beat, I think he deserves a spot. After all, that’s what this tourney is all about…people who weren’t expected to do well but did vs. those who were expected to do well but didn’t.
Chun doesn’t have a “free” counter match. O.Sagat does the best against her, but it’s not free by any means. I don’t care if all five old schoolers want to choose O.Sagat. I’m still going to choose Chun. Besides, Buk and I play pretty different styles, I think. I tend to turtle more, while Buk just holds towards and mashes Strong.

what is the best type of switch sticks to use for ST at ECC???
I am about to buy them from Happs but I can’t remember what is the best…I have played on competition, ultimate and super joysticks before. I believe that competition are standard, and super is the “fake 360” switch stick that doesn’t have corners but a circular base instead…
But I can’t for the life of me remember what ultimate is. I definitely don’t want the fake 360s, the goal here is to have switch sticks with corners. Can anybody help?
As for buttons, I just found them, they’re called competition, so we should be good there.
