64 ST players each pay $25 and then enter a room. We lock all the doors and turn off the lights. After 10 minutes we open the room, and whoever is left standing gets to play in the round-robin bracket.
Or we put a sign on top of a door “ST room” and put an ST cab in it. Once 63 players are inside, I go outside and lock them in. Then I walk to the real location of the ST tournament and I win by default since nobody else showed up.
CigarBob - Did I hear this right? You are in charge of running the OFFICIAL EVO ST singles (top 8 get on stage and all) and you are trying to change the mtuha fuckin format to ONLY let 32 fags of your choice enter? I hope I read that wrong, cause thats the most retarded shit i have ever heard!!
If that is the case, u better open that mutha fucka up to everyone and anyone who wants to play some ST if its the damn Official EVO ST singles. Thats bs, who gives a fuck about 3v3 that shit is only for fun, if we have time then do it, if not fuck it.
Anyway, if im wrong and your 32 and EVO ST signles is seperate, then ill just give u a little slap in the face when i see u. For usin the N word and not askin me for permission BEEEEYAAAATCH
J-Cole
ps. So now the 5on5 is based off last years results? Lol man this sounds like 3s 16 man invitational now hahaha. How about let me be Team Captain and DSP captain and we pick what mutha fuckers are on our team. CASE CLOSED!!! *since i was highest OG and he was highest New skool…u know if u wanna go on last years results and all.
LOL 5on5 is so fuckin HOT, hotter then NKI’s RR of gayness and sexier then Cigarbobs 32 man gangbang! LOL
Yeah…I agree the title of this thread really needs to be changed. :wasted: Sorry.
FMJ, if can you change thread titles, please change it to something like “Evo2K6 ST: Team Flukesters vs. Team WeGotRobbed”.
…? Maybe I’m missing something here, but besides Texas Showdown, how many major tournaments have there been since Evo? Zero? You make it sound like I’ve gone three years without entering a tourney or something. (By the way, I have entered two Midwest tourneys since Evo, both of which I won, but neither one counts because they were held in cities that you have never heard of.)
Don’t worry, I’ll see you at ECC, MWC (if you’re there), and Evo.
Sure. It’s your hardware, afterall.
Schaefer has made it clear that he doesn’t like games with supers, which is a shame.
OK, that was just uncalled for.
Anyway…
I hope it’s clear to everyone now that this 5-on-5 is only for the flukesters and those who got robbed. So the teams are settled then? DSP/Buk/myself/Peter/afro vs. Watson/Choi/Cole/Sirlin/Wilson?
As for all the other talented ST players who weren’t involved (Valle, Graham, Shirts, etc), they very well may be better than everyone in the 5-on-5, but they weren’t involved in the drama, so that’s why they’re not included. I’m sure we’ll all have the opportunity to play against each other, either in the singles tourney or the team tourney.
Sound good?
P.S.: CigarBob - I think if you charge $20 or more for entry, you will weed out all the random peeps and just get the hardcore ST players. No need to cap, in my opinion.
I am hearing about a Milipitas Golfland tournament that will feature Choi, Valle, Cole, Graham and I assume Sirlin. Jason Nelson and Apoc I heard are planning on going too. If this is all true then next weeks tournament would provide more current information.
NKI, who ever said your placing was a fluke? You’ve played a long time and played in Japan as you say. How could your placing be a fluke? DSP on the other hand did well at Evo last year but I don’t see any consistency. NKI, you are certainly no fluke. I’m curious. Why do you feel this way?
Major props to CigarBob!
I really am curious about this. I want to know who really is the best in the US at ST.
whoa, big names. this kind of shit doesn’t happen often near my backyard. i gotta hit mgl for st though i will get OWNED hard by the OG so i’m just gonna watch.
NKI, every tourney matters. Shows consistency. Iv been to a few tourneys since evo with ST. Arizona, few of Wilsons, Nor Cali, TS6. I’ve won every one except Ts6 which i got 2nd to Choi. A few of those have vids of me playing as well. If u are tryin to make a name for yourself in the ST world, every tourney matters man. Build up all the way to the Majors.
I suppose the 5on5 teams are ok, but i much rather support the team captain Idea. shrug. Anyway, what was uncalled for? Me using colorful names for your guys tourney? LOL dont take things so seriously NKI, 5on5 is going to be the hottest ST event of them all. Hopefully we can get it on stage along side with the top 8 playoffs.
Dont be intimidated by the shit talking, remember your SF history. Shit talkin is what drove us ‘OG’ players to achieve greatness. Know your roots!
Shit, most of you worship Schaefer. He was the biggest shit talker of us all! Just for the record tho, schaefer got his ass handed to him in ST, thats why he hates it. Cause he was around all the way thru til alpha 2 (which had supers). So dont let his bullshit fool you.
Schaefer got his ass handed to him? Last I saw he was handling his own against Daigo in AE. He didn’t stop at Alpha 2. He played up until a few weeks before the A3 national that Graham got 2nd in which we affectionately refer to as “Graham’s day.” lol He played SF3:NG too. For the record, I loved the character Schaefer brought to the old school scene. I think that’s why most love him. We don’t see characters that colorful in the scene anymore. Too much respect for one another is the cause I think. I didn’t find his play particularly exciting.
Speaking of A3 and the anthology edition. I’d like to see that game played by the greats. Valle, Choi, you, Nelson, Wolfes, Apoc, Danny Leong vs. the new school crop like Ricky Ortiz, JWong, Temujin and all would be a sweet competition too. Any chance of seeing that?
Will there be any footage of the Milipitas tournament? I may not be able to make it afterall and would love to see you all go at it while the hunger seems to be in the air. I should ask in the pacnorth forum.
Btw, I enjoyed your matches with Watson from the AZ tournament. You look to be in good shape. I look forward to beating you while your still hot. I know you guys are getting up there in age.
Shirts and I CLEARLY remember what happened to Schaefer at Family Fun when he played us…
Daigo on American sticks? Come on, that was after he lost a ton of matches to us that evening. All that matters most is that regardless of who beat who, Watson owned up all of us that evening…
Graham: You’ll do fine in old man ST at EVL since it’s on arcade this year. No one is prepared for old school Balrog or Dhalsim again…
NKI - I agree on the $20+ weeding out the scrubs. So i may just make it an open tourny and let everyone enter.
Cole : No my tourny isn’t official. For sponsorship reasons EVO has decided to keep ST/HSF on consolse.
So to clear every thing up. All of my tournies are not official. But Wizard had siad that there may be a chance to have my finals on the stage on the last day. But if there are any conflicts with us recording the matches i will just keep it all in the BYOC room.
I think for all those involved that this tournament will be the official ST players tournament and that is what really matters. Evo can’t do arcade so if they had anything up on stage with proper treatment it would be Evo showing clear respect for its roots and the players that drove the scene early on. It would be nice.
Official or not this is the ST tournament that matters most. It will be very interesting to see how the top finishers fair in AE assuming that AE will be the official old school tournament.
I will finally go to Evolution!!! Thanks to NKI and CigarBob for doing this all. I ignored the scene after every game seemed to make it to Evo and they stopped pushing older games. The staples should be the proven games over time along with the newer games that are universally agreed on. All I need to make my summer complete is an Alpha 3 tournament and Slash!
Maybe I’m crazy but this thread is making me feel like the scene is getting back on the right track. Damn sentimentality.
DreamTr/Shirts, I believe you guys. Schaefer was one of the guys to beat before he retired. I’m sure he’s mediocre now but I think you can agree that if he was currently playing he’d still be one of the best. I think he placed 2nd at the last SHGL tournament on A3 before retiring. He went out like a punk ditching the national event still. Sad.
What of Thomas Osaki? He did pretty good in that comeback years ago. Does anyone know if he can be bothered to make a comeback?
DreamTr, what would your 32 man dreamlist be for your tournament on ST? You’ve run so many tournaments I am very interested in who your 32 man set would be.
To add fuel to the fire, I think DSP has already proven himself to be a fluke. Excuses for TS and the recent Breakdown tournament? Wth? Ties for 7th at Texas and ties for 5th at the Break? This guy goes from champ to chump in under a minute. The guy is just a mouth. He talked his way into this thing but his play since Evo has already answered the question of what he can do. No consistency at all and all he has is the Evo PS placing. Then he has the nerve to disrespect consistent players in his sig? He should earn his spot like anyone else and he hasn’t. Can he at least get top 3 in an arcade tournament? That Texas excuse was nonsense. A half a year after Evo and he can’t retain his abilities? Fuck that. The OGs placed consistently whether they were playing currently or not. DSP gets lucky once and he’s in this? NKI shows consistency as Cole pointed out. DSP disrespects others and calls himself champ and 1 playstation placing has him in this shit? NKI and Buk are clear. AfroLegends has one tournament under his belt placing high and still has respect. He needs to talk some more shit but he has respect.
So, I ask you. Why is a disrespectful chump in this at all? It should be required that he place high among others and he’s even whooped on the EC. If this is going to be on arcade, DSP should show some consistency or at least some respect before being included. I say place top 3 on an arcade format or he should change his sig to reflect the truth. He did well on console. Keep it real. This is the ST arcade seriousness. What has he done but make a completely false claim and lose since Evo?
Kick this guy off and add Bryan Tyson or something. Especially if you want a shot at beating the old schoolers.
If had to pick 32 players out of a hat to show up and play, and be the very best, it would be like picking teams for the NCAA tournament, going back to tournament results from the ages…picking well from each region…so it would be extremely difficult, and there’s probably a few people on the list that I would leave off because they are inactive, and I will state that reasoning…

That would be my first tentative list, and I am sure those that are inactive/active and known that would be attending EVL would be moved up to the top of the list…
For example…If Thomas Osaki was definitely going, he would bump off one of the last 6 players and move up to the 3 line…the last 6 spots would be EXTREMELY shaky because of past tournament results…
DSP, Neil Atkin, FlashG, etc all have shaky results but technically deserve a spot if this was a “real” situation of determining seeds…there are SO many people that are good enough to play, but a lot of people stay in hiding, and have not played in ages…
Graham and Alex Wolfe, and Omar Deloney have been inactive for awhile, as have many of the other players, and might be bumped if they did not play…but again, this is just one tentative thing if people were “choosing”…
As for this Team “We Got Robbed” vs Team Flukesters thing…
I’ll be honest, I’m really shaky on having Peter on the team. No offense to him, but his Xbox Live Honda only got him that far because he had an easy bracket…I was pretty much able to just play straight up counter match Dee Jay and beat him, I was actually sleeping on him which is why he was able to win that first match. I would feel really confident about having everyone else on the team because we are all pretty solid. IF this were an open format kind of thing, I would consider adding someone like Jeron or Justin Wong because they are both new school and have been pretty consistent at recent showings. I feel like if Peter is on the team we are pretty much giving up 5 losses and starting with a handicap, because the kid only knows basics and pretty much couldn’t even beat my Dee Jay, who actually is beaten by Honda if you know your stuff.
My only other issue is that both NKI and Buk play Chun and if one/more of the OGs just practices vs Chun hardcore, they basically get 2 free wins each, which will screw us.
Anybody remember my idea last year…OLD SCHOOL VERSUS NEW SCHOOL with myself as the team captain of new school and somebody OG like Watson/Cole as team captain of old school? YEAH I already had that idea but it got laughed at, now all of a sudden it’s valid…hate to say I TOLD YOU SO but…wait, no I don’t hate to say it…I TOLD YOU SO, OLD FOGIES!
