Evo2K6 ST: Team Flukesters vs. Team WeGotRobbed

Sf2Freak: I’m just mentioning names off the top of my head, my buddies in FL should be on that list too, but I’m not digging that far into my brain. Even with CigarBob cabinet, I still prefer standing up like some people, so nothing is goingto matter, it’s all for fun anyway they are doing I suppose.

Apoc is mentioned, but not Nelson? I’ve played them both, and they’re close to the same level.

Cole - are you talking about the tourney in 2000 where s-kill/Choi/Valle/Watson played RR against Bro. Ken, Bro. Chun, Kurahashi, Shooting D, and Yuu Vega? Unless I’m missing something, Japan won that one 12-8:
http://www.alpha-net.ne.jp/users2/funara/nitibei/rules.html
(It’s all in Japanese, but it’s the top table, red text = Japan wins, blue text = America wins.)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the only two real ST players who have attended Evo (Daigo and Gian) undefeated? (Did either of them even go to the losers bracket?) Nuki, who isn’t even an ST player, somehow snags a top-3 spot more than once. I’ve played a lot against Japan’s best, and I’ve played a lot against USA’s best, and I’m telling you straight up, they are clearly better. If you don’t believe me, then let’s just not talk about it anymore.

I didn’t want this to be a USA vs. Japan thing anyway, so getting back on track…

I obviously want to include as many people as possible (because there are plenty of people who deserve spots), but due to time constraints, I have to narrow it down. I think I’m going to settle on a 15-man cap.

I don’t think there would be any objections to my original list of ST Godfathers (Watson, Shirts, Cole, Choi, Sirlin, and Valle), so consider those 6 spots taken.

I definitely want to see DSP in there, being that he is the heart of all the drama, so that’s 7.

If nobody has any objections, I’d like to fill the 8th spot (but if hella peeps start screaming foul, I’ll gladly step down).

I’d like to give the 9th spot to Buktooth. Despite the fact that all he does is mash st.Strong (I heart you Buk), he has consistently placed well in lots and lots of tournaments.

The 10th spot I would like to give to JumpsuitJesse (if he can make it this year). He definitely has the best Fei in the USA, and he is pretty cheap overall.

Let me just clarify that I am not claiming that Buk and Jesse are better than everyone else who isn’t mentioned. All I’m saying is that from their matches that I’ve seen, I think that they deserve spots.

So that leaves 5 spots (1/3 of the spots) up for grabs, which I think is a pretty fair number.

Now I would like to know two things:

  1. Anyone just totally disagree on any of that?
  2. How would you like the remaining 5 spots to be determined? RR, double-elim, single-elim, player nominations (voting)?

I would have to agree with you totaly. This thread has gotten a bit out of hand. Lots of ppl going off for no reason what so ever. Its your tournie run it exactly how you want it to run. If ppl dont want to enter Fuck them.

You mean 4 spots right

I tip my hat to you nki for even putting the effort. You my friend are FUCKING dope. <3<3

Sirlin? Shirts? not to be rude but godfathers? I don’t think so. Buktooth you play st now? hehe. Its funny how my brother and myself aren’t even mentioned. Guess newer people forget the old school fools over time.

I agree with Graham. Wolfe brothers are true old school. I was playing with Watson/Apoc back in the days at World’s Finest Comics, so not too shabby…=]

But, doesn’t mean I couldn’t beat you guys today. Not that it really matters…game is old and out of its prime.

Anyway, not trying to talk mess. Choi, Watson, Osaki, Wolfe brothers…pretty old school.

NKI - Actually, If you take out S-kill (who wasnt prepared or even PLANING on being on the team) out of the equation, then the score is 8-8. He was thrown in just because USA didnt have another player. So whatevers. Also, Id like to add that Nuki started playing ST around the same time Diago started playing(they are extreme rivals you know). He is no slouch, when it comes to any SF game.

Iv played a majority of japans best as well, and so have the ‘Godfathers’ of ST you have mentioned. ‘WE’ can handle our own just fine agaisnt japan, problem is there arent to many dedicated ST players in the US. Our best (that still play regularly) is what, about 5 players compared to japan who have entire arcades dedicated to ST alone. Heh give me a break. It amazes me that we 5 can handle japans entire community of ST players.

Heh you wanna talk about japan players who dont play ST and smoke us, how bout Buktooth entering Japans ST national and taking out one of their top players? ST is the only game we are pretty much Equal with agaisnt japan and we are gaining on them fast in 3s. A game they thought we would never come close to beating them in. lol dont make me bring up Tekken =P

Anyway, as I said before…pick who you want and make it a short and quick tourney. If you dont want to pick then how about making it first come first serve. First 5 ST players from Dreams list that posts can be in it. Nice and fast =)

Sorry if i come off a bit harsh, but i think its just your lack of faith in US players that gets me goin. Your PRO japan , America blows attitude thats hidden under your goody goody persona is highly annoying and frustrating. Cause you are a great player with a lot of knowlege in ST, but why put down players in your own backyard? We just come from different SF generations i suppose.

J-Cole

ps: Dont forget about Graham and Alex Wolfe, they are secret top tier force.

hehe if only NKI could have been around in the golden era. Our country excels in some things, the arcade management is something that is done pretty poorly. I mean its sad when i have to ask choi to find us competition and we need to plan a night to all meet at a friends house because no arcade even has ST anymore. Good players are good no matter what though and we know how to stay good, doesnt matter what country we are from.

blah.

There, I posted, instant entrance into the tourney!

Yeah I know alot of players are probably better than I give them credit for nowadays, I was trying to prove a point. But I’ve heard stories from my brother and cole from previous evo’s , about alot of noteworthy players doing well.

My brother and I practice almost nightly and with choi weekly. If Sirlin starts showing up itll be 4 tough bastards practicing weekly, like the old days. All I can say is WATCH OUT!

Its great to see the Wolf’s come back. Heck the last time i really remember seeing them play is the A3 nationals.

This EVO will go down in the History books for sure.

I cant wait.

all i know is last time i played the wolfes (way back when on valle’s cab) niggas were getting hit by the STRONG STYLE

(strong strong strong strong strong strong)

alex wolfe: “what, are you gonna break my guard?? OLOLOLOL”

(strong strong whiff strong throw)

(strong throw)

(strong strong strong strong counterhit strong -> strong -> low forward -> dizzy)

alex wolfe: “…”

nelson: “aaaaaAAAAaaAAAaaaaAAAAa”

AAAAAaaaAaAaaaaaaaaaaaa

Strongs baby.

strong-armin nigs all night long.
i likes that.

I relate so much to you on this. I can definitely see how choi, valle, watson etc. could’ve lost last year due to not playing on a cab. When i play on console my execution is shot and i could only imagine how frustrating it could’ve been for them losing. Barring all the differences between console to arcade, i think comfortability is the most important factor.

**when an where…

an are we gonna have something similar at ECC??

Koop**

Again, if guys are basing it on the TOP 16 US ARCADE ST Players, you REALLY need to redo that list somehow…Or at least have a 32 man tournament or something…NKI, I know that’s your list and all for this tourney, but among other things, Justin Wong is the best EC ARCADE ST player for sure as of right now…and if anyone says otherwise, I am sure he’ll just take their money for free…No Jesse Howard? Well, I guess you did say you were going to have something for the remaining 5 spots…

Caliagent: Exactly…that’s why I always hated console tournaments…I think I’ve only entered 2 or 3 console tourneys in my life…still makes me wonder what everyone is basing rankings on, arcade or console, or both?

Where is Delpino when you need him…

I think that NKI is also basing his list off who shows up to EVO.
