Did the PS3 version end up not having 1f of input lag in live play compared to the 360 version?
That’s the only question I think that actually hasn’t been answered. Ganelon tested both versions and said they were identical. However, I thought he said that he didn’t have a means at the time to test input lag.
16:9 for me personally.
I like playing my games the same way I like watching my movies. Original Aspect Ratio. I can play HDR either way, but I like the less claustrophobic view of 4:3. It’s also interesting that on a TV with no overscan, there are still small black bars on the side in 16:9 mode.
Sorry for the blurry pictures.

4:3. I cant beat any of the old players, so i dont care to lose the new players who presumably were going to be great but missed out due to their distaste for the intended aspect ratio. I also wont be taking home any worthwhile pots (or increasing my fame), so that could be throwing off my ability to make a sound decision.
“I like playing my games the same way I like watching my movies. Original Aspect Ratio.” - tokerblue
quote above sums it up nicely. obviously this would exclude something that was genuinely enhanced, but 16:9 isn’t very developed in HDR - looks and feels weird
I listened to the live podcast with MrWizard tonight. First off, HDR is confirmed for Evo! Secondly, some of us asked about what aspect ratio would be used this time around. It sounded like he’s willing to revisit the issue if 16:9 is what the community wants.
Wizard specifically mentioned that the game was optimized for 16:9 in the stream tonight. He talked about how the ‘shaking’ of the camera in the game is actually reduced in widescreen mode (it sounded like he was pulling directly from Sirlin’s post in this thread). I wouldn’t be surprised at all for 16:9 becoming the new standard for HDR at EVO. It’s about time really.
That’s good news. I hope he does consider 16:9.
Like I said before 16:9 wasn’t given a chance, and that’s not Evo directors style to change something without proving it’s broken.
idk 4:3 is the way to go for me but i don’t mind 16:9. sometimes i play with the old school sprites but they look weird up close.
When people say HDR is designed for 16:9 what does that even mean? It was based on a 4:3 game and the “designing” for 16:9 is just blowing up the image and cutting some from the top and bottom. I prefer not to lose the space on top and bottom.
On an unrelated note, Bob the Shoto is gonna take HDR at evo this year, bet it.
The question is, what does having that extra space on the top and bottom do? The answer to which is “very little if not nothing”.
Did you even read any of the posts in this thread? Sirlin explained that the early in the game’s development he decided to make 16:9 the default aspect ration and test almost everything using that viewing mode as the visual. He even said that the ‘screen shake’ feature of the game is reduced in 16:9 compared to 4:3. The game was visually optimized and tested primarily for 16:9 hence it being referred to as a ‘widescreen’ or ‘16:9’ game.
Rules: Akuma is not allowed in tournament play. 4:3 Aspect Ratio
Wonder if that is a final decision though.
Seems they just replaced “2009” with “2010” and otherwise copied the description from last year.
“In 2010 Evo is replacing our staple SF2 Super Turbo tournament with HD Remix.” That’s obviously last year’s blurb.
It upholds the proportions between different objects. I personally think SF2 looks mad silly with those huge ass characters. I don’t mind it all that much but regardless of what HDR was intended to be, I prefer the stage layout of original SF2.
So the “designing” was clipping the upper and bottom areas and reducing the shaking? Come on dude lol.
- The 16:9 mode was made for people who don’t like black bars on their TV, which is the same complaint that people have with 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies. What’s ironic is that there are still small black bars on the sides of the 16:9 image.
Is this still a issue? are there downsides in using 16:9?
No, none. People will get used to it the way they got used to the new SRK layout.
For the record, I don’t play HDR on 16:9 EVER. I still play on my old Apex analog T.V., so people need to get over this already.
im not comingh to evo but UGH at hdr widescreen. the screenlayout of sf2 (the proportions between everything) weren´t designed for it and it just looks funky on widescreen.
The same downside mentioned last year: the fact that 16:9 makes the screen shaking more noticeable for some aerial moves (even if the actual screen displacement has been slightly reduced). I understand folks wanting 16:9 for aesthetic reasons to fill up the screen but playing claw, I see a lot of wall dives and the 16:9 vertical bobbing feels disconcerting.
Plus, most tourneys (to my knowledge, all the majors and most regionals held outside of the west coast, even NCR for that matter) still use 4:3. So my opinion is to still keep 4:3 aspect ratio.
