Evo North: The Midwest Championships THREAD

right, forgot about o’hare, nice save sabre.

also, if 3S has a ps2 port option, that’d rule.

What’s with all the arcade hate? Personally, I’m sick of console shit. Games just don’t feel the same.

I know CvS hasn’t been officially announced yet, but would that be on console or arcade (since the game came out in '01, the pre-01/post-01 explanation doesn’t work…)? I’d travel for that shit.

Arcade CvS2 on 360’s is native to me. I’d love to see it.

Guys, I can’t announce all the games until EVO Page announces it. It’s kind of a no brainer, 4 on console, 3 on arcade. (The one we are not sure of that will be console or arcade is because of a lack of boards) Now that 3s and MVC2 have been announced, that leaves basically two other 2001 and older games for this. Since I mentioned “lack of boards” you can figure out what that is from the remaining two games. There’s only one real “surprise” game at EVL this year, and it’s not really a surprise IMO, it’s just long overdue for a different type of fighting game crowd.

O’Hare is the closest.

Troyboy: Go to Yahoo Maps and fill in where you will be staying in comparison to Northbrook, IL.

Havoc: I know how you feel about console, believe me. CVS2 is one of those games where it’s really different from console to arcade in terms of feel, which is why I want to keep it arcade if it’s at MWC.

I don’t think it’s the arcade board that people have a problem with, it’s the method of control. The sticks associated with cabinets are the real issue, and it’d be good if some kind of compromise was found. This “adapt or die noob” mentality that some veteran players are giving off is not healthy for the scene to grow.

I’m all for arcades, but not for sticks that people are unaccustomed to (advantage/disadvantage even before the game is played), and certainly not with sticks that people are unaccustomed to AND are in sub-optimal condition.

Cool…only said like 18 Miles, 23 minutes

Arsenal: The problem is, EVERYONE has an issue with personal preference with the method of control nowadays.

The solution that everyone thought “stops” that is the fact that when utilizing console, everyone can use their stick of preference. Of course that basically takes out a lot of the footsie games, hard uppercuts, change of speed in gameplay, and “random” factor that most console games have associated with, not to mention slight input lag on some of the PS2 games as of late without an HDTV, and you still have problems.

There is no basis for arcade in this sense.

The whole “die noob” argument has been shoved into the arcade players’ faces as of late (DXP just did this last night) stating that WE need to adapt because everything is console now. His definition of everything being EVO stuff, but not including places like FFA and other hotspots in the US that still prefer arcade over console.

We are not stating adapt and that’s it. MWC has ALWAYS been about arcade. 360 sticks are what we usually use because the players always wanted them. Now as of late people want switch sticks. Funny thing is, when we put in switch sticks, they complain their moves don’t come out. You know what THAT is? People are used to console speed and timing, so things come out differently. You have to get accustomed to what you will be playing on, and unfortunately it’s going to be either 360s, or Ultimate HARD SPRING switch sticks. Some people don’t like Happ sticks, I love them. I play top notch and have played my very best on those styles of sticks.

Personallly, I can’t play on 360s. I’ve had to adapt to those stupid things for years and I can’t instant block very well or charge very well with them, ruins my game. I was told to adapt. Now people want switch back, but we are in the console era now, and everything is a mess.

Bottom line, we will try and situate things as best as possible, but there is not ONE tournament I have ever been to where people have NOT complained about sticks/buttons in one way or another, even when they work fine. People just need to get used to them.

CVS2 is a timing issue. I own the arcade board and every console version out there, I played enough of them when they came out, along with Xbox Live to know the difference in timing in comparison to if it is working or not. I would just rather give ARCADE players a chance (hence the tournament) than go to console, but if we do not have enough boards for the game, we would have to go to console no matter what if this is announced for EVO Worlds.

Also, I played in most of the tournaments at MWC last year, and I had to play on 360s, which are not my preference, and I did fine with them, and noticed no real issues. There was a button issue on CVS2 which I noticed in the finals, and that was repaired, but I did not notice it earlier, and no one mentioned it to me. 3s is interesting, one of the machines sometimes stops working for a split second randomly. Hard to tell these days, but we will make sure everything is top notch before the tourney.

So, no Happ Competition sticks? Why? Lack of availability? Too hard to implement?

Happ Comps might not be the best sticks for those type of cabinets. They have a tendency to “skip” the switch sometimes. We’ll try them, but I guarantee there will be complaints.

bottom line is, people are gonna complain no matter what. thats all there is to it. even if the shit works fine, still complaints. over the years, having to play on so many different style sticks, i can go from 360s to sanwas, to ultimates, no problem, these days. all about adjusting.

i do find it really funny that people from back in the day wouldnt give console the time or day, defending arcade til the end, then console finally goes full swing at evo with massive payouts, now its the other way around, hating on arcade. i find that funny to me…

reading this thread makes me fel like im a fucking old man from a different era.

I completely understand what Dream and co are saying 100%, but I seem to be in the minority now, and all my oldschool sparring partners have retired. :looney: :looney:

its like i have to go into the console + jap sticks era kicking and screaming all the way…

and maybe when i win in front of you i’ll stop hearing the complaints about me being a console-only winner.

3s arcade with ps2 imputs = dream come true

also

Ive never had troubles with my competition stick but when i use a 360 at nickels i cant get anything off. :frowning:

DXP: YOu are more than welcome to come, search on Orbitz, but I have other stuff to worry about than getting you a cheap ticket =) You get top 3 in Arcade Final Round with good comp, you’ll have my respect.

Humbag: Like I said, preference. I’ll get the Competition Sticks on something. Lots of work to be planned for this baby. I might need to go a day and a half early.

Sabin: That’s the other problem, all the OGs have left the scene, so now it’s basically console warriors and mid-tier players getting recognition for some reason because there’s no one left!

fuck console

<3 mwc

This sounds awesome.

This also sounds awesome.

I’ve never had a problem with the actual game on arcade or console. There are differences, but its not too hard to adjust.

I’ll be practicing 3s on p360’s on arcade so it should feel the same whenever I go to MWC. I’d be 100% fine with having 3s on arcade p360’s as long as the p360’s are in really good shape. I just don’t wanna have to drive all the way up there, and have to play on messed up sticks.

Shekeib: We will use Comp Sticks as well, so might be good to practice on both.

no you wont…once you get inside GREATLAKES you’re ass is gonna stay there til you graduate…

Bill; good shit. CvS2 obviously. There’s no way in hell I’m going to deal with your MSS Drones.
