Evo North: The Midwest Championships THREAD

Sweetness MWC will be hella hot this june!!!

Exactly what i was saying.

Few things:

DXP: We moved it to Nebraska for ONE year because of difficulties with the location where it is at now. You don’t kniw anything about that, and it did NOT affect future numbers. WHat affected numbers this LAST year was there being little marketing, too many tournaments, and people don’t play arcade as much anymore. I have no idea how you can call those "sillY mistakes. I had nothing to do with the arcade scene disintegrating. Blame Capcom for that.

Also, who is being hypocritical? EVO started out as ALL ARCADE and only moved to console in 2005.

On top of this, EVO North: The Midwest Championships is a HYBRID tournament. IF you were not paying attention, last year was console/arcade. Same for this year. 4 of the games will be ARCADE qualifiers, and 4 of the games will be CONSOLE qualifiers.

Shekeib: AS what FMJ mentioned, you are incorrect about how the tennis scene works. This is really a seeding purpose for EVO WORLDS. Of course, if you want to try and bust in unseeded to EVO WORLDS, it may be harder. Now that I think about it, do you play 3s and GGXX, or just GGXX?

The arcade scene here has dwindled to a point where there is nothing to look forward to. WHy are the console guys complaining now? Most of you want to try and be like Japan so much, but won’t play on their turf, which is arcade only. The games are different, arcade to console. 3s on PS2 is a shadow of what the Arcade version is, and CVS2 is a different speed just as a starter.

Bottom line is, a lot of the old school players will still want to play arcade, and this gives them a chance to shine. Sure, they will have to adjust to console IF they go to EVO Worlds, but at least they have some kind of semblance playing it in the purest way possible.

Even though all the games have not been announced yet, you can figure out from how the arcade scene was that ANY game at this tournament made BEFORE 2001 will be Arcade, and ANY game made AFTER 2001 will be console.

3rd Strike will be Arcade
MVC2 will be Arcade

We will PUT SWITCH Sticks on some of the cabinets for 3s in case players do not want to play on 360s.

In tennis, seeds are determined by the players previous year’s performance. They get points for their results in each professional tournament. Then, they get seeded accordingly. Only in Wimbledon do they change it around and base it on a combination of grass court performances and yearly rankings.

But thats tennis, and tennis is gay. I used to play a lot of tennis. Look me up. Number 1 freshman and sophomore year, but then I realized how gay tennis was, and I started playing fighting games.

DreamTR: I realize that arcade is better, I totally agree on that. Its the sticks, and this is in no way your fault or anything, but I prefer to play on Japanese sticks. I’d love to play on “their turf” but that would mean playing on a sweet ass jap cab. I play GGXX and 3s, but 3s is my main. Also, when I went to MWC last year and the stick was messed up. This isn’t just from me, other people said it too and I remember seeing people jump up to play on the 1p side cause they knew they 2p side was kinda messed up. The local arcade here has 3s on p360’s and they always work really well due to the manager being into 3s, I went there a lot more than usual to practice on p360’s for MWC, but when I played in the tournament, it just felt like my stuff wasn’t coming out.

If more than just a few people complain about sticks, I feel something should be done about it. I’ll most likely be coming to this, I’ll have fun no matter what sticks are used, console or arcade.

I just like to play.

I know some people had issues with the 3s cabinets. I did not personally, but we will be sure to get those things squared away (even if it means moving to blue cabinets) this year.

I understand the Japanese thing as well. Everyone has personal preference.

Sanwas, Seitmitsu, Happ Super, Ultimate Hard or Soft, Competition, 360 Happ or Wico, way too many…

I do have ONE solution for next year. If I bring the CigarBob stand up arcade cabinet with interchangable panels, that will be the perfect solution for ALL issues (cept things being on console  )

Looks like there’s gonna be an increased attendance this year for MWC. Are there gonna be enough cabinets to accomodate the sudden surge?

Also, should this still be viewd as MWC with some added benefits?

Let’s hope so. If not, it’s going to be a LONG tournament.

Yeah, it’s the same MWC you’ve always seen, just more areas to play “free play” consoles, more consoles and TVS in general, and more people.

Thanks Dream from clearing it up. I would love to play 3s arcade only, but at nickles when usually you have to play 3s on 360’s its discouraging. I will be really glad to play on switch sticks. (competitions are real good for american style)

jason: theres a way to plug in ps2 controls into cabinets. one of vics friends was making em out in cali and showed me a prototype at evo. i havent heard much on it. but it could be a possible solution to make everyone happy perhaps?

sabre: that would be a bit complex still, right? Anyway you can find out more about that? I need to see one of those ASAP. The only other solution I see as partial is for Neil’s cabinet to be wired for Super Gun…

For console games being played on arcade, there is always the Ps2 to jamma solution with j-pac. With that all thats really needed to make is a hacked cps2 kickharness for the extra buttons.

Though I know I saw someone in the tech forum several months ago making a PS2 controller port to jamma. He said that he’d release it but I haven’t seen anything since.

playing console onarcade cabinet is definitely out of the question to me. thats pointless.

your 2nd paragraph is what im talking about. hellfromabove was making it. i saw the board first hand, its pretty damn nice. i just havent talked to him in a while about how it turned out.

dream, its a really simple procedure, it takes literally a minute to install these boards in a cabinet. the only problem, is that it does have a fixed button setup. thats the only downside. so basically, if yourr stick isnt wired the same way that the board is configured, your fierce could be where strong is, and jab could be where rh is, etc… i dunno if hes found a solution for this but ill find out. i do know that the button config on these boards are setup to match the capcom ps2 default standard, which pretty much all ps2 manufactured sticks also follow (hori sticks, ae stick, etc…) and im sure most of these custom stick builders pretty much wire their sticks to this standard as well. but who knows. ill let you know

ShinjiGohan: I know what converters you speak of, I have an XBOX one, but it really does not make sense to utilize that for MWC, might as well just let everyone play in their own comfort zone without going throug hthe trouble to turn the console game into an arcade game.

Sabre: How do I get ahold of hellfromabove?

cvs2 isn’t going to be at evo world or at this event?!?!?!??!?!?!

popo, i think cvs is console for this…

only mvc2 and 3s are arcade only

dream: just pm hellfromabove. or you can try to get a hold of vic since he knows him personally as well.

popo: who said cvs2 wouldnt be there? its still alive and kicking

can anyone tell me what the nearest airport is?

I’ll be in IL for Navy Basic Training so I’ll most likely be there

Anyone know how far it is from the Navy Base in Great Lakes, IL?

Mitchell International Airport.

o’hare is closest, its only roughly a 10-15 minute drive to nickel city at the most. but i do know many people like to fly southwest airlines, and for some reason, they dont fly into o’hare, so you would be flying into midway, which is roughly 1 hour away. never heard of mitchell, but it shows roughly how much i know about the area =)
