Red Roof Inn? Is that seriously the only closest hotel to Nickel City?
Sure is.
Ok, well first off, I’d just like to introduce myself
I’m Zurad, new to the Evo community, and I’m mainly a smasher, though I’m still fairly new to that community as well
When I heard that Evo picked up smash, I decided to check the place out, and much to my surprise, the midwest tournament is being held in Northbrook!
Now, I live in Northbrook. In fact, this is no more then 5 minutes away from where I live. But I don’t understand why this is in Northbrook, a town that no one has ever heard of and offers nothing, instead of Chicago, a city that the midwest is known for.
I guess it’s just weird for me to see something big as Evo coming to such a small and pointless town as Northbrook, heh.
Yeah, there aren’t many hotels around the Northbrook area. Nickel City and Red Roof inn are across from each other, and are at the edge of Northbrook. The only other hotel around the area that I can think of off the top of my head is at the opposite side of Northbrook, by the outskirts of a shopping mall known as “The Glen”, though I can’t recall what type of hotel it is. It would probably be no more then a 10 minute drive, assuming that you got to Northbrook in a car. Otherwise, you’re pretty much screwed.
Northbrook has been home to homeo to the Midwest championships for the past 10 years. So it is not exactly new that competitive tournaments are being held there.’
It just so happens that Evo has merged some qualifiers with some long running tournaments. In this case MWC.
I can’t find out where to register at on the evo north site. Also, is the price for the Red Roof Inn just for one night, or for the whole weekend?
new blood or fresh meat…
…or just plain noob? (or is that newb? n0ob? nube?)
Regardless I am a tourney-virgin, looking for that perfect tournament to buy me dinner and a beer and then have its way with me in the back seat of its car.
This one looks good to me… its only a good 400 miles away, lots of games I’ve either completely forgotten about, haven’t played yet, or have never heard of. (barring the newer 3-d fighters, of course) Plus you guys seem to have much love for competition.
Promising. This also seems smaller than EVO east though… Not sure why.
But, I suppose I do have a million questions, as I am inexperienced in tournaments, and there has been no arcade scene around here since… well, forever. I didn’t see the answers to these in any previous post in this thread, sooooooooooo:
When does gaming start? are we talking early friday, like before hotel check-in early? Should I be there by Thursday?
How long is this lasting? Late Sunday night? i.e check out time on Monday?
how is this BYOC lounge gonna work? Beyond the obvious actually bring your own console part. (since I’m sure to lose painfully fast in the actual tourneys) and I specifically wonder about where the BYOC lounge is gonna be? At the hotel? I’ve never been to a RedRoof Inn that had any facility spacious enough to accomodate more than a handful of people, let alone a handful of consoles/Tv’s and a double handful of people. Or a few hundred for that matter!
Is it gonna be at the arcade? The arcade doesn’t look too large either… Would I need to haul a monitor too? That backpack will be HEAVY.
Registration? no question there, too early for that to be up…
Ummmmm. I really thought I had more questions than that.
Why does hcf always fail me when i need it most?
shrug
Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
anyone have any airport information for those flying from out of state?
ohhhhhh
WE RIDIN 10 DEEP AT DAT EVO HOLLA WASHOUT

anyone have any airport information for those flying from out of state?
o’hare airport. about 15 minutes from evo north
o yewa just 2 say foir hyper its the 3rd to last star on first row if u turn it off it make it so a3 gain nmeter with throws.
so is nickel city being rented out for the whole weekend? mwc in feb, was cramped as hell. how is this all gonna work?
typically MWC is held in the party room (for the last couple years) so it isn’t as bad as midwest challenge.
Though prior to that, nickle city was larger and was better suited to large turnouts. But time will tell if its enough for an Evo size crowd.
It’s been in the party room a number of times, including back in 1997, and it will be back to the same room again this year. The back section will be for console setups, and the remainder will be arcade setups for tourneys and such. I’ve seen it capable of maintaining a large crowd.
I apologize for not putting up the schedule yet, as soon as I get confirmation, up it will go along with the other random tournaments we are throwing!

o’hare sucks,I am driving with the rest of the Ne crew:rofl: see you boys there
Schedule should be finalized Tuesday.

1.) No.
2.) No; however, there are banned glitches (e.g. anything game-breaking or causes the other player to lose control of their character(s)).
3.) shrugs
Hope that helps.
