i haven’t really read the whole forum, so i don’t know if this has been asked but are the unlockable characters allowed?
Yes…
There are should be a subsection under the General Rules about controllers and peripherals.
I mean, I know the answers to most of these, but it should be spelled out in the rules to cover your asses.
1)In game Macros (legal)
2)hardware macros (illegal)
3) Turbo Functionality (needs to be addressed since all TE’s and HRAP’s come with it)
4)Wireless controllers/Pads (causing syncing errors and bringing up home menu)
for top 8 to avoid another dr finals i suggest setting 2 extra wireless controllers as controllers 3 and 4 to avoid another random controller connecting to the ps3 if that works.
Not helping lol.
I’m suggesting that in Third Strike Teams; Gill is allowed only if there’s 1 person on a team just like that one 3v3 Japanese ST tournament where someone picked Akuma by himself.
Thats nice. He is still banned though.
Why would you even want Gill to be playable is the question? There’s only one version of him and it’s the unfair one.
Ignore that guy. He’s a troll
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned forcing anyone that chooses Gill to lower their handicap (taking and recieving more damage).
Since this exact change is what balanced Seth against the rest of the cast in SF4, why do you dismiss something like that out of hand?
Clearly I’m not saying “zOMG ADPT TIHS 4 EVO09 NOW!!1!!!eleven!!1”, but if some small test tournaments (or even casual play) are run where failure to follow the handicapping rule, even by going on autopilot at the select screen, is dealt with by giving a game loss to the offender, and it has little impact on what characters make the top 3 and 8, then exactly who’s hurt? If even then, it devolves into Gill vs. Gill, then fine, keep him banned. At least he got a fair trial.
What does he really have?
Spoiler
Let’s take a look at how terrible he’d be with that simple nerfing:
His biggest asset besides damage output (which, with the proposed rule, would be neutralized) is his dashing speed. He can motor around the screen and be away from close-combat characters at will. He can also get in a keep-away character’s face pretty much when he likes as well. While it is true he can juggle like a damned clown when he hits his cr.FP launcher, you probably won’t be seeing much in the way of damage unless you catch a stun in the middle of things (sounding like another last boss?).
The only normals that do chip damage are his Fierces and Roundhouses, all of which are slow enough that they can be parried or punished afterward.
His fireballs are like Urien’s, but EXed and a little faster. Still parrybait, especially when you can’t even hold it to delay.
Cyber Lariat gets a DP motion, but only one distance. Knowing where he’s going to be is a major disadvantage for him.
Psycho Headbutt, again, gets a motion instead of a charge, but also is Fierce-distanced, based on Urien, for all three buttons.
The Moonsault Knee Drop is slow, announces itself anywhere onscreen, and always homes in on the opponent. It’s like Urien’s EX Violence Knee, but without the surprise factor. Parry and get all day to decide what to do to him.
Rating the Super Arts:
? - Resurrection: Automatic at KO, but even without the handicap, to make him stay down. Granted, the videos don’t always show the main SA for each character, but when he takes double damage from everything (conjecture, based on how the stars would work), this is no real threat.
? - Meteor Strike: An actual attack with the meter, it can be tough to parry completely, but with damage scaled down, it’s basically something to tack on to the end of a combo.
? - Seraphic Wing: If announcing your intentions by floating to the middle of the screen uncontrollably isn’t bad enough, this screen-filler will barely chip (likely not much more than a blocked Houyokusen), and then give your opponent plenty of time to give Gill a suitable ‘Welcome to Earf!’ for blowing his meter like that.
Or, since you’re the loudest, and you’re also somewhat local, next time you’re around for 2D night, take my scrubby-ass, non-3S-touchin’ self on for a FT5, where I’ll run Gill at the proposed half-handicap. If it turns no contest when you play your best, then I’ll admit he’s just too much for the game. If you waste me with no problem like I think would happen, we investigate it further. Sound like a plan?
how about we don’t allow gill
yeah that works
Or how 'bout you learn to read? The kind of extensive testing I’m talking about probably won’t even be complete by the time 2010’s EVO rolls around.
But hey, I suppose you’re fine with SF3: 3-Character-Strike, where Yun, Chun and Ken are the only real options.
I swear, sometimes the rabid clinging to the status quo puts me in mind of the Smash folks.
Dear Michael South ((Tiberous)
Due to the fact that Urien, Dudley, Makoto and Ryu are all also quite viable in 3S it should be renamed SF3: 7 Character Strike at very least. And it’s not “clinging to the status quo”, Mike. Gill is not ONLY a busted-ass boss character, he’s accepted by 99.9% of the community as too powerful as well (give or take .1%). You are more than welcome to run your own tournaments and allow Gill at some handicap penalty. But I’m pretty sure he’s staying banned at EVO.
Well, unless you shrink yourself down into McRib sandwich and somehow get Wiz to eat you, then once he eats you, you take over his mind and you use your new found powers for evil instead of good. Honestly, if you get him to put JoJos on the ticket and let me use “super sexy leggings Sagat” I’ll give McRib version of you to him myself. Wait a minute… how do I know you won’t just trick me? Yeah, that’s your plan, isn’t it!? Use me to get to Wiz and then you perma ban me after smacking me in the face and taking JoJos off the ticket. Oooh, you’re a crafty one, Michael South, I give you that. But what other choice do I have?
Yeah we should allow everything for Gill to be allowed. All 3 supers are allowed however make his handicap 50% like playable version of Seth. Characters like Akuma and Makoto would own Gill for free like that.
Man, what the hell is up with you and Gill?
Can we also put infinite supers, auto parry, auto block, and air blocking too!?1/1/
Difference between gill and seth is… Gill can do 100% chains so it doesn’t matter what his handicap is. Seth cannot he drops you and then you get back up and he has to hit again.
Gill can hit… and hit… and hit… and hit… and you can’t land or parry until the next round. Also he can stun you while you’re in the air and you then start another chain to finish you off if you do land due to him messing up a combo. Well no reason to explain all this crap, also about giving gill a year in evo… youre basically saying just let 1 year of evo go to waste to see gill vs gill then go back to normal, kinda sucks to waste a whole year just for a ‘test’ Do some locals with this and with someone who actually knows how to juggle for 100% with gill and see if you’re still down with him being in main tournies.
I’m pretty sure they know this, but for some reason they learned them in training mode and thought "well, now that I’m so “good” with Gill, I want to play him. I mean, they spent ALL that time practicing with him.
Yang makes 4.
