My father told me this two years ago. I was surprised. He told me a story on how my grandmother would vote for the republican and when he asked her why she would vote for them, she told him that the democrats back then use to tbe the KKK and the police harrasing black people. We also wondered at what point did the two parties “switch bodies”.
People wouldn’t believe that if they read it themselves. They only live in the here and now and Republicans/Conservatives are seen as taking things away and Democrats are always here to help.

Considering the bipartisanship of the Repubs/Dems virulent racism from the 40s on, and the eerily close relationship they share in matters of policy today, I think trying to find out when they “switched” is impossible. If anything they’ve coalesced save for minor disagreements.

No such thing as a non-white racist. If you see one that is, then one or more of their parents is white. A racist believes that one race is superior to the other. Black ppl voting for a supposed black person in office is not racist. They are trying to support their fellow race because no one else ever does. Has nothing to do with being racist. However, preventing a certain ppl from doing something because of their color IS racist. Who is the only set of ppl that did that and still do? Alrighty then. You see black ppl with other raced partners all the time. With white ppl, you got a whole mob organization (KKK) and 3 sub-cultures (the Rich, the Redneck, and the old school religious) that keep trying to use their ‘superiority’ over other races. The asian community mostly stays to themselves as far as cultivation to their own race, not because they are racist, but because they are not trying to deal with the oppressive crap from white ppl anymore. Mostly the same deal with every non-white race. With the white race, they don’t tolerate it because ‘it ain’t natural’, or ‘God doesn’t want this’, or ‘they trying to wipe us out’. That’s racism. The non-white race on the other hand, ‘we’re gonna stay away from you because of your intolerance’. BIG difference between racism and non-racism there.

It makes sense if you follow history and understand the differences between Republicans and Democrats that have persisted from their conception to modern day. The Republican party started out as a party only represented in regions strongly affected by the industrial revolution. It started mostly as a pro-business party, which meant many of their elite were educated. Many of these people understood that racism was wrong, and there was also the part where all of them had reasonably regular contact with their European counterparts who were for abolition at the time. Also important to understand were the poor factory workers. People entered factory work because it was the best job the average uneducated Joe could get, and he didn’t want black people competing against him for jobs. This meant he wanted slaves to go away, preferably to the south. This created a strange alliance where the factory owners wanted abolition (maybe the end of racism) and the factory workers wanted abolition, for entirely different reasons, and they were both in the exact same geographic area.
The Democrats started as a party of equality and liberty (for white people). It’s sort of the same in that America itself started as a country with freedom of religion (for Christians). Basically everyone was racist and they were only willing to take a really good ideal so far. It was also a party of the status quo, initially. There were important businessmen within the Democrats, too (really every political party has important businessmen). These businessmen tended to be the conservative kind, focusing on agriculture and raw materials, with an emphasis on slavery to keep costs down and remain competitive internationally. In fact it was southern businessmen who rescued northern businessmen as the north industrialized, because the first attempt at industrialization failed and it took another decade to start up again. America would have gone through a depression without southern aid, something southerners frequently slapped in the face of northerners shortly before the civil war. Democrats saw industrialization and its abolition movement as dangerous at best and immoral at worst, because they saw equality and liberty as a man working his farm with his own hands and making for himself what he could (slave hands count as his hands).
So the north (Republicans) win the civil war, yet racism persists as an open part of the system until the 1960s. In the 60s, there were two kinds of Democrat, the old Democrat (such as President Johnson), who thought that his culture had attained the ideal society and it was a simply a matter of spreading around said “grand society” so all could benefit, and the new Democrat (some say Kennedy was this kind of person but this is debatable), who wanted to shake up the status quo in favor of real liberty and equality. Kennedy being shot was one of the main reasons civil rights legislation was passed, the Democratic party wanted a legacy for Kennedy to endure on. The new Democrats won out, and the Democratic party today is mostly the same, now based on the original ideas of liberty and equality, except hopefully for everyone.
Republicans during the 50s had developed a pretty strong anti-communist reputation. This appealed to social conservatives, who felt left out of 1950s politics. By this time the Republicans had pretty concretely built a history of corporate success and tying it with American success, and this belief was shared from top to bottom of American society. In the 60s, social conservatives decided to switch from the Democrats to the Republicans, in part because capitalism was now seen as conservative and also because of the “strange” actions by the Democrats during that decade. All of this appealed to the elite Republican businessman, it was during the Cold War and the businessmen in politics were conservative against the far left communists who threatened businessmen directly.
Also during the 80s Reagen showed up and turned social conservatism from the backburner of Republican priorities to the front, and recently the Tea Party showed up, I don’t think much else has happened to Republicans structurally.
