I’m not going to a fucking town meeting lol. All I know is that I live in a white mans world, so I’m voting for a black man. This logic doesnt need to be elaborated on. Thats the logic those people have. It is what it is.
I work 48 hours a week and I have time to stay informed to some degree. Isn’t that, or shouldn’t it be true of people that work 40 hours a week, or fewer?
I agree that some people really never had a chance, as you said. However, I think far more people believe that is the case. And believing that about about yourself is crippling. I can rattle off success stories and same-old-stories about kids I knew that grew up in the system. The main difference between the ones that made it and those that didn’t wasn’t their race. It was a drive to succeed and the belief that one could.
I’m a conservative. (I am not a Republican.) I find too many Republicans feel the poor are unwilling to succeed, and that too many Democrats believe they cannot. I am a cynical person, but I believe virtually everyone can transcend their upbringing.

We’re saying a white guy lied about his race to win because the black voters wouldn’t have given him a chance otherwise, even though everybody thought the incumbent was shit. Make both candidates black and now they’re willing to vote without bias. Why, even though we now know that it actually wasn’t entirely because they thought he was black(or at least, they weren’t voting against anyone because they weren’t black) due to his main competitor being black and well known, are people still acting as if that wasn’t the case?
And to think that none of the voters actually did a background check is ridiculous, I damn well cant say they all did, but it would be impossible for it to be a clean sweep of ignorance.

what exactly is the “houston community college board”? it doesn’t sound like something terribly important, but either way claiming a false endorsement is pretty fucked up…but it’s outweighed by how funny this is.
The area that this happened in is a low information area, so no background check would have been done. Granted voters in general should know better but what Wilson pulled was really deceptive. I guess if I didn’t know the Houston area like I do I would feel differently. But Wilson picked the correct poverty stricken low information voting area to pull this kind of stunt.
It wasn’t like he did this in an area that would be remotely informed on issues, I can guarantee you in that area no one even knew what a HCC district chair person was and they only voted for the person they recognized in fliers.

iirc the guy that shot the congressman in arizona was such a right wing nutjob that the local republicans wouldn’t fuck with him at all…but he was in such a heavily republican district that the local democratic party was damn near nonexistent so he was able to get on the primary ballot as a democrat.
